She’s absolutely awful!

Her voice is harsh and rough, she’s out of tune and out of rhythm. Dreadful.

Her voice isn’t great now, but she’s doing OK. I think she looks amazing! And like she’s having a great time.

Agree with pp about the legend slot often being a bit of a letdown because the artist’s voice has deteriorated. Or sometimes because it’s an artist who never had a great voice to begin with and who just cannot make a live acoustic act on that scale work, without all the bells and whistles (thinking in years gone by Janet Jackson, who was shocking and Kylie who was appalling, although it was a fun performance.

Elton John was brilliant, though. I’m not especially a fan, but he got a new level of respect from me for his performance last year.

Edited

Are you sure Janet Jackson and Kylie did acoustic performances at Glastonbury?

Shittification · 30/06/2024 17:06

She's 58 years old.

By MN standards that's teetering on the edge of dementia, drawers full of lavender bags and carers twice a day.

Saw some of her costumes at a museum in the US a couple of years ago. They were absolutely tiny. Like teeny-tiny, for a Barbie doll. Looks like they would still fit her!

FailBetter · 30/06/2024 17:06

Stevie Nicks - she could do the slot?

MrsMonzo · 30/06/2024 17:07

She wasn't amazing, but as a big Shania Twain fan I went into full on mum-mode singing along wearing my cowboy hat. The kids actually left the room out of embarrassment for me.

LlynTegid · 30/06/2024 17:08

Miming is a form of deception. There should be a law that you have to be told of miming before you buy any gig or festival ticket, if not you get a 100% refund. And tv companies should be obliged to tell you, just as they do about 'strong language'.

There would be almost none if that was the case.

Anjo2011 · 30/06/2024 17:08

It wasn’t great was it, not sure if she had sound problems or her voice just wasn’t on top form today.

Samcro · 30/06/2024 16:59

I doubt if the poster is playing the legend spot

There we go then

Mitsky · 30/06/2024 17:10

A huge number of artists use playback (backing tracks / extra vocals / additional instruments that wouldn’t be played by those on stage). I used to know a band who played additional crowd noise at the end of a song to make it sound like the crowd were going wilder than they were.

Also the sound mix on the bbc broadcast is known for being appalling, what we’re hearing on tv will be different to what you hear in the audience. However I agree she’s not hitting the notes, I wouldn’t necessarily leap to blame her audio team though.

JenniferBooth · 30/06/2024 17:13

Oh i wanted to see this. Missed it cos my TV guide says 6.15pm if this or that changes re. football and i cant be arsed to work it out

Thats hilliariousbut true

If this is the case, as bad as it is, and as bad as I feel for her, she should NOT be paid for any performances. As a pp said, no-one would pay anyone else - like a mechanic, or a painter and decorator, or an electrician etc if they lost the ability to do their job, and made a pig's ear out of it. Why should 'famous singers' be any different? They are paid a lot too, and don't deserve it if they can't deliver!

I never said she should be.

StrawberryWater · 30/06/2024 17:14

Glad I'm not there this year. Lana Del Rey and Elton John put me off for life last year. I honestly wouldn't pay to go again. Shania sounds just as bad right now. Just caterwauler's (though I am glad I saw Elton live and to be fair his issue is age. Lana Del Rey ruined her voice with ciggies).

This. Shania will very likely have been paid several hundred thousand pounds for this .. Saying 'see if you can do better' to someone slating her is a ludicrous thing to say @magnoliablooms . 🙄

.

Redbone · 30/06/2024 17:29

Yep agreed she is absolutely awful - I thought that it was just me. So out of tune it was unbelievable.

I saw the same. They really don't look like they'd fit an actual human being in!

Thepartnersdesk · 30/06/2024 17:32

Getting the sound levels right there is tough.
I saw New Order at Glastonbury and they were terrible. So disappointing but they were clearly having issues with ear pieces and hearing each other.
The friend I went with saw them live a couple of weeks later and said they were brilliant, to the point you'd think it was a different band.

Only professional singers can criticise a performance? Why?

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 30/06/2024 17:31

What a puerile comment.

Shania is a performer in a headline act. Undoubtedly being paid a fortune. It’s not unreasonable to expect her to be able to carry a tune.

Appalonia · 30/06/2024 17:37

Genuinely curious, so they not do sound checks at Glastonbury? A lot of pp seem to have had sound issues!

Youcantellalotofthingsabouttheflowers · 30/06/2024 17:40

Saw her in concert the other night and she was absolutely abysmal. Even the die hard fan I went with said she was crap.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 30/06/2024 17:41

We saw her in concert in Nov and she was fab
