She’s absolutely awful!

Her voice is harsh and rough, she’s out of tune and out of rhythm. Dreadful.

These Legends slots are often like this. Age and/or associated illnesses mean their voices just aren’t that good anymore unfortunately. I do wonder how much money they are pocketing for these mediocre performances.

Impressed that after that level of Botox she can still manage to look pissed off 😆

shes been very ill, Lyme disease and her vocal chords are badly damaged, her speaking voice is damaged. I think she’s been weighing a lot of songs. I watched her do an interview on her health atruggles, it was upsetting hearing her talk about the loss she felt not being able to sing and use her on voice anymore, never saw the performance, I think she talked about maybe being able to get surgery but I’m sure it was risky or experimental. Such a shame, felt so sad for her. X

Saw here recently and she's amazing. Some of the stuff written on here is just awful

In what way is it awful to say she isnt performing well?

Would you say the same of a decorator you hired, who you knew had done outstanding work for someone else, you'd see evidence of it for yourself but he came round and made a pigs ear of your hallway?

What about a fashion designer or wedding dress maker, they had made something amazing, beautiful, their work is impeccable but the next thing you saw they made looked like it come out of a jumble sale?

Whats awful?

Well I would hope that most people would hope that they present well and put on a good enough performance, it being her job and all

Why is there such aggression with things like this, 'she wont give a fuck what you think'. Well she isnt there for any other reason than to put on a performance, so its it does rather matter what the audience think doesnt it?

I thought I remembered all this from Diana Ross too, couldnt sing for toffee in the end.

Hi jacking thread so apologies but DR was awesome at the NEC in the round and I'm no super fan.

Appalonia · 30/06/2024 16:44

Barry from the Bee Gees wasn't v good either and both Diana Ross and Paul McCartney really struggled when they did it.

It's a shame how these once amazing singers lose it. Same happened to Whitney Houston. If they have a few years of not performing they do lose the ability to sing well.

Shania does have quite a harsh voice, but the recording studio toned it down/softened it. I have always liked her, and some of her songs are good. Come On Over is one of my favourite albums ever. But her live singing has never been massively enjoyable to hear. And it's worse than ever now.

I don't think it is awful to say someone isn't performing well. I thought Dolly did not perform well because she was miming her face off. I do think it's is awful to describe someone as a "drunk old bird"

reallifeboogie · 30/06/2024 16:46

She's definitely drunk or high

Summerhillsquare · 30/06/2024 16:46

Not as bad as Dexys Midnight Runners yesterday, oh god.

She really doesn't look or sound like Shania Twain though.

soupfiend · 30/06/2024 16:46

voiceofastar · 30/06/2024 16:41

It allows you to hear yourself! Without it she won't be able to hear her own voice over the band and the crowd.

The Beatles stopped touring big stadiums for this reason didnt they, they couldnt hear themselves

I would think its very likely something wrong with equipment but its still not awful to criticise the awful sound coming out!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 30/06/2024 16:39

So what does the ear piece actually do?! Why can't she take it out and just sing her songs that she knows and has been singing for 27 years?

I can't be bothered to look up whether it applies to her, but a lot of singers (maybe most) can't read music and their pitch isn't good enough to remember the key without the intro even if they've sung the song for years. A lot of singers aren't actually very musical (although of course many are).

I've never thought she was particularly brilliant. She seems a nice person but I think her looks have carried her a lot of the way.

arinya · 30/06/2024 16:47

She has fought the effects of Lyme Disease for 20 years and had vocal surgery. It’s sad. But, she’s also sold over 100m records and is the best selling female country music artist ever. She’s had an amazing ride. Nothing lasts forever.

Yes it seems so. She is gorgeous

I don’t understand why she is there as the ‘legend’. She’s shit. She always has been.

I agree. I guess if you're massively into country music you might think she's a legend, but in the mainstream she really only had a few poppy chart fillers in the 90s, with nothing much since. When you think of the other "legends" they've managed to book in previous years, she is a disappointment. She's certainly no Dolly, Kylie, Elton, or Beyonce. Was there really noone better available?

Whitney lost her voice because of drugs, sadly.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 30/06/2024 16:47

This seems like it was a backing track. Did anyone else hear the difference there?

BeeCucumber · 30/06/2024 16:49

I’ve turned off. I think she may have had a sherry or two before coming on the stage. She appears to be slurring and forgetting the words and the name of the songs. Oh dear.

If this is the case, as bad as it is, and as bad as I feel for her, she should NOT be paid for any performances. As a pp said, no-one would pay anyone else - like a mechanic, or a painter and decorator, or an electrician etc if they lost the ability to do their job, and made a pig's ear out of it. Why should 'famous singers' be any different? They are paid a lot too, and don't deserve it if they can't deliver!

Your voice does change as you get older though, mine certainly has, its wobbly and weak in parts.

Is it? If thats what she sounds like? Sounds just like an off the cuff comparison to me, nothing significant.

Bizarre choice for the Legends slot. I appreciate she's had some health issues hence the rather poor vocals but
she's hardly shouts "Sunday afternoon singalong". Although that might be more entertaining...
