Since when have the Tories ever championed the wellbeing of the vulnerable?

She said the most vulnerable of those I care about.

I’m not actually being goady, I’m genuinely undecided because I’m not sure it’s ’right’ for me to have a say when for better or worse I don’t have to live with any consequences of my vote.

InterIgnis · 02/07/2024 12:44

DontBiteTheCat · 02/07/2024 12:34

They haven’t, but I suspected the poster was trying to be goady.

They have already said they only consider themselves when voting anyway, so I think we can guess who they would vote for. No major loss.

Lib Dem, for what it’s worth. Although I did vote Labour earlier this year.

Listen, I was just trying to encourage you to vote regardless of whether you would be directly impacted or not.

The “what if that were Conservative” and being ok with being selfish comments did come across as goady.

You do whatever you feel is best.

Yes, I’m going to.

It was a genuine question, not a goady one, to illustrate what my issue is. Let’s say I did vote conservative, and somehow because enough people did they managed to keep hold of power, I wouldn’t actually have to live with the consequences of my vote. Whatever happens, I won’t have to live with the consequences of my vote - so should I have a say? I’m not sure.

And yes, I am okay with being called selfish. That is just a statement of fact, rather than an attempt at goading. Some people think well of me, and some don’t - I don’t worry about it.

I replied to answer OP’s question, that’s all.

Labour. I prefer green but it's a tactical vote to get cons out

I respect that, and thank you for clarifying.

I was born in the north of England where if you don't vote Labour you're under 21 or not a British citizen. After Mum and I moved down south and she married my late stepdad, I was brought up with the attitude that if you don't vote Conservative it means you must be a card-holding member of the Communist Party......I worked as a civil servant at the time and any hint of Communist inclinations could have cost me my job (which Mum didn't appreciate, despite being a retired civil servant herself).

When I moved to a different city after marriage i made my own mind up about who to vote for but it was never the Tories ! Where I live now the local Lb Dems are very good as local councillors but not quite sure if they're able to stand up to the strength of the local Tory vote at a national election.

For myself, I think I'll be voting Labour.

I understood that, but I stand by my statement. I wouldn't trust the Tories to have the best interests of any vulnerable person at heart, especially when so many of them have a pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps mentality and see vulnerability as a moral failing.

I think in your shoes I would be undecided for the same reason, though. I think for me the answer would be whether I felt my voting choice was in the best interests of those remaining in the country.

Until someone does pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Then they don’t like it. Exhibit A: Angela Rayner.

Junaluma · 03/07/2024 01:04

Lib Dems. I have always voted for Tories however unhappy with how they’ve handled a lot of issues close to me and also I really dislike the MP in my constituency. Not voting for Labour as I genuinely don’t believe much will change

Emmanuelll · 03/07/2024 09:09

Anyone harping about voting for the Tories because they support women's rights should have a look at the thread where the OP can't get a surgical abortion because clinics don't receive funding for them any more. No doubt due to the cuts.

Freeamigos · 03/07/2024 18:15

greengreyblue · 01/07/2024 22:18

But it doesn’t mean they are a threat. Some horrible views in this thread . Some people really suffer with anxiety, depression and gender dysphoria and quietly gi about their new life. Some posters seem to think all trans women are rapists and abusers. Horrible attitude..

The issue is that it doesn’t need to be all or indeed any trans women that are a threat - by opening up the space to those are are genuine it facilitates an easy access opportunity for males with sinister intent and believe me there will be absolutely be some looking to exploit the system. I used to work closely with convicted sex offenders and the lengths that some went to to groom or create situations where they could commit crimes ‘under the radar’ would turn your stomach. For that reason I cannot vote for Kier.

greengreyblue · 03/07/2024 21:38

I wonder why Starmer isn’t worried about his wife and daughter in changing rooms going forward.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/07/2024 22:40

Presumably because they’ve had no problems, hitherto. As I haven’t, aged 60.

Correct. And transwomen are by far the most likely to be victims of an attack in a public toilet than perpetrators.

Not voting. As a woman, who on earth could I vote for?

Women died so you could vote

Springminded · 03/07/2024 23:57

Already voted as done a Postal vote for labour

Not voting. As a woman, who on earth could I vote for?

You could perhaps vote on behalf of the almost 1 in 3 children living in poverty. The 8 million people waiting for medical treatment. For cleaner rivers and seas. Or on behalf of the homeless, the terrified that need mental health professionals, the children who were screwed by Covid and are still refusing school, the disabled who are being told by unqualified people that they are fit to work and having their lifeline withdrawn or for environmental progress and clean energy that will give us a fighting chance. Maybe, radically, decent, affordable housing?

Or you could decide to not vote based on a single issue that has been woefully misrepresented.

shearwater2 · 04/07/2024 00:00

Lib Dem I think as they have more chance of beating the incumbent Tory in this area.

SnowFrogJelly · 04/07/2024 01:17

Labour all the way!

MeinKraft · 04/07/2024 01:25

Alliance, for all the good it will do as they'll never be elected in my area. Still, at least I keep trying.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 04/07/2024 02:16

I don’t think any of them deserve a vote but most likely the Lib Dems, though very reluctantly so (normally a steadfast Labour voter).

Conservatives have ruined the country and the Conservative MP we have in my area is shit so definitely not willing to vote for them.

In terms of party leaders I think KS is probably the most in touch with the people, however womens rights will be shafted under Labour and probably even more so under Lib Dems looking at their manifesto so neither is a good choice for women in terms of winning party but I think Labour would be the lesser of the two evils in this area. However that said our local Lib Dem candidate seems great and tactically they are the only party in my constituency that stands a chance of ousting the crap Tory MP we currently have so I guess thats where I will place my vote even though on a larger scale I wouldn’t actually want them to win!

The only reason I still have a job is because of the equality act so if thats scrapped lots of people like me would be screwed so Reform is definitely not an option either.

I think voting Greens would be a wasted vote as they don’t stand a chance of changing anything.

Honourspren · 04/07/2024 05:25

The election broadcasts have swung it for me.

Neither Labour nor Conservatives seem to have any substance to them; the entire broadcast was spent telling me why NOT to vote for the rival party, and dealing in fear, rather than what they'd actually do if they came into power. That was pretty much the same for most of the broadcasts from the parties I'm allowed to vote for in my constituency. I find it interesting that it's nigh on impossible to find a straightforward link to Reform's election broadcast. Censorship in action, which would also get worse under Labs and Cons. So they're out.

So I'm going with a party that spends its time telling me what they'll do if they get elected instead. Greens may be a wasted vote in the grand scheme, but at least their policies broadly align with something I can get behind.
