They’re all arseholes. But not voting or spoiling my ballot is only making it easier for Labour. As I said, they will win in my area and will probably get that landslide for the whole country. Realistically we’re only looking at two parties fighting for power, and since my arm is (metaphorically) being twisted I’d sooner have Sunak than Starmer running the country. The Labour mp running for my area has made zero allusions to how they’d help the local area, just repeating all of the party’s soundbites, whilst our current Conservative MP has actually put work into an area of high poverty/low income. Why should I vote Labour just because everyone else is believing the land of milk and honey is just a tick away?

Is anyone expecting Labour to provide a land of milk and honey? I'm not. I think we're just expecting something better than what the last 15 years have brought us to. It's either more of the same or change. I suppose it boils down to the fact that some of us don't believe they're all arseholes.

Deny what basic human rights?

It doesn’t matter if they are criminals or not; they shouldn’t be in women’s spaces if they were born with a penis, even if they are the second coming of Mother Teresa

To be honest, if women’s spaces are filled with this level of intolerance I’m not sure I want to be in them- I’ll take my fully 100% legitimate and unquestionable uterus (oh some women don’t have one of these by the way) into a gender neutral space where people don’t cling to biological determinism as a reason to keep voting kids into poverty

Labour
My area has always been conservative (with a large majority) and to be fair I quite liked our MP. I disagreed with his political views but he was always helpful on the rare occasions I contacted him. He has now retired, I really don't like our Conservative candidate and I think it is time for a change.

GreyCarpet · 02/07/2024 06:58

Labour has changed though.

I don't think they have that much, and they're still not the Tories that we have now, who definitely have made the country worse over the 14 years.

Labour. The Tories have destroyed this country. I cannot forgive them for the Brexit disaster, nor for installing a PM who partied and lied his way through the pandemic while others said goodbye to loved ones on video call. How anyone can consider voting for them after all the hideous things they've done is beyond me. But that's democracy. So I hope they get the biggest trouncing in history. Karma.

Well said
The partying was a total and utter piss take as others couldn't even visit their Mum/Dad/grandparents in a care home.

No some women don’t have uterus due to medical conditions, but being born with a penis/XY chromosomes isn’t one of those conditions. But please, if you can get those third spaces for those with gender beliefs sorted, feel free to pop off with Starmer and the rest of the ideology followers to use them. Of course, Starmer doesn’t want to implement third spaces, just happily place males into womens sex separated places without question.

As for using the poverty line - you know how many young kids (especially girls) escape poverty? Through sport. Are you happy to vote in a party that supports letting males into girl/women’s sports and taking their placements/future achievements away?

To a life changing degree, very few I would have thought?

InterIgnis · 02/07/2024 11:46

Not sure if I am voting tbh. I can, but I’m leaving the UK roughly three weeks after the election, so it’s not like I have a vested interest.

But it’s not just about you, is it?

Vote for people you care about that aren’t leaving the country.

I mean, should I get a say when I’m not even going to be here to feel the possible impact/consequences of my vote?

A lot of the people I care about have left, as an aside, but of those who remain, whose interests do I vote for when those interests are represented by different parties?

Anonym00se · 02/07/2024 11:58

You what? How does sport help someone escape poverty? (Unless they become a premier league footballer or something, which is extremely unlikely).

The most vulnerable of the group.

Which is your prerogative.

I answered your question on whose interests you should vote on behalf of. The “I might not vote because it won’t affect me” comes across as quite a selfish attitude to have, but as I said - your prerogative.

Well of course.

What if that vulnerable person was best represented by the conservatives?

When I do vote I do so in my best interests anyway, so ‘selfish’ could easily be leveled at me regardless of what I do, and tbh that’s fine, it’s not a charge that troubles me.

Then I would say vote Conservative?

I’m not trying to lead you in any particular direction, I’m simply saying the ability to vote is a privilege and even if the result won’t directly impact you, It WILL impact millions of other people.

Since when have the Tories ever championed the wellbeing of the vulnerable?

They haven’t, but I suspected the poster was trying to be goady.

They have already said they only consider themselves when voting anyway, so I think we can guess who they would vote for. No major loss.

No, I’m not.

They asked who should they vote for if the most vulnerable person they could think of would be better off under the conservatives. I said vote conservative.

If they had said the most vulnerable person that they knew would be better off under Lib Dem/Labour/Greens then my answer would have changed accordingly.

VoteLabour · 02/07/2024 12:37

Labour. By far the best candidate where I am.
