Unfortunately I can't link to her clip, but she's a star and a hero. She pinned him down and cut through the "twaddle". I am a swing voter and would have been proud of a mntter holding any mp to account on an important issue like Jane did. Jane is/was even trending on twitter.

No he was being rude. If I ask a question I expect an answer. That was the whole point of him being on the radio. I had a finite amount of time to get an answer and wasn't going to listen to him run the clock down and not provide an answer.

I didn't care about what he did in the DPP, (to be totally honest, every time he trots out that line I have a vision of him crawling along the white cliffs of Dover in navy seals gear wearing night vision goggles shooting down 6 planes to save our mortal souls when really he was just the admin guy who stepped in after the real intelligence jobbies had done the work) I wanted to know if he would protect our rights as women to have safe spaces.

How would you have gone about the very brief conversation to get him to answer the question?

Yes he wants the air time but doesn't want to answer questions.

Like you Jane I'm fed up of hearing about his time as DPP every time he's asked about protecting women's SSS. In my head I can hear myself saying, 'no one asked you about your CV you wanker".

What's most offensive is he knows its adding nothing to the conversation and it's a blatant time waster but heaven forbid you call him out on that shit.

You can save your embarrassment.

I think it's rude to begin shouting at someone almost immediately after asking a question. She had to be asked to let him answer and when he did you can hear her sighing.

I think people should be able to offer this opinion without being insulted and called names.

This.

That sounds rather disrespectful of the work he's done. I did type out an answer to your last question, but I don't think it would be received well if I were to answer it. In any case, I wasn't there and it's not my responsibility to say how I'd have acted.

He wasn't, but some people are trying very hard to make Jane look bad, so they have to lay it on as thick as possible.

Oh No, not a sigh. A. Sigh. Assemble the Firing Squad.

I think people should be able to offer this opinion without being insulted and called names.

You've offered it countless times, we heard it the first time. Can't see where anyone has called you names about it just disagreed, I know you and Keir Starmer don't think you should be disagreed with but hey different opinions and all that.

ilovesooty · 29/06/2024 18:45

ActivePeony · 29/06/2024 18:43

I meant people on here expressing an alternative opinion have been called names.

Churchview · 29/06/2024 18:46

ActivePeony · 29/06/2024 18:43

I read @ilovesooty 's post not to mean that Keir Starmer was called names but that posters on here who offer the opinion that Jane was rude have been insulted and called names, like handmaiden or told they have half a brain cell.

being transgender isn’t an ideology. It’s not “woo” or “woke”. Being transgender is a type of human diversity. It is as natural and universal as sexual diversity, racial diversity and so forth. Trans people have existed across all cultures , throughout all of human history. Trans people are a very marginalised , minority group who suffer exclusion and discrimination. They are deserving of dignity, peace and respect. Hating trans people has nothing to do with women’s rights. Over and out.

FOJN · 29/06/2024 18:52

DONE, past tense. Jane was asking about his plans for the future. It's not unreasonable to expect him to answer the question he's been asked.

If adults want to take testosterone and have a double mastectomy what business is it of yours?

As a society we don't allow people who are suffering terminal illness to end their own life if they can't do so unassisted. We section people who are a danger to themselves. We restrict access to substances deemed harmful.
If someone believes themselves to be Queen Elizabeth the second we don't arrange unfettered access to Windsor Castle for them, we treat them to try to get them to realise they are mistaken in their belief.
Or in short we try to prevent people harming themselves.
Unless they do it in the name of trans.

Zwicky · 29/06/2024 18:54

I think Jane was right to interrupt his non answer. He’s been asked numerous times and it always goes like this

Respect and dignity for men
Distressed men
BE KIND
women are making the “debate” toxic
I’ve done loads for women, me
”biological” women (male and female ones)
GRC is just so undignified - let’s have MORE of them
Can’t you just be kind and reasonable like me?
Brianna Ghey - a new and especially abhorrent addition to his script

What he never does is answer the question he has been asked. Today he was asked again “to clarify, that would mean that a transgender woman with a penis would have to use the men’s bathroom” - he doesn’t answer.

The clock is ticking - he starts his script - dignity, I used to work at…yadda yadda yadda - Jane knows he’s running the clock down and monologuing about what a great guy he is instead of answering the question, which is fucking rude, so she interrupts. Good in her. The idea that women are just supposed to sit there and take this bullshit is part of the problem.

But it means believing something that is literally impossible - that you are a member of the opposite sex. So it’s delusional.

Delusions are universal - people suffer from them frequently, but it doesn’t mean they’re real. Of course delusional people should be treated respectfully and kindly, but in general we don’t affirm delusions.

And this particular issue has a lot to do with women’s rights to privacy, safety and dignity, because there are many bad actors around who will use any opportunity to access women’s spaces, as we have seen recently on a regular basis.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 29/06/2024 19:04

@ilovesooty she interrupted him because he was repeatedly returning to his script, the one he'd used at the Nottingham debate, where he lists how he knows all about women, some of his colleagues are women, he has daughters, he has worked with women who have suffered violence, and because of all that... he knows better than the women trying to speak to him what women need. And then references Brianna Ghey.

We have heard it several times, he was on his second or third loop in that interview alone, we all knew what he was saying and he wasn't answering the question- well he was, implicitly of course. Implicitly he was saying he doesn't need to listen to Rosie et al because he knows better.

And that was exactly what Jane asked.
Q- Why won't you listen to women telling you there's a problem?
A- There is no problem, I know it all, don't be toxic, marginalised boohoo, be quiet.

I've had a quick skim through questions starmer has asked. I'll be honest I'm trying to find some place I can ask him a question on live TV or radio but this came up.

And it's a not very inspiring list. Lots of queries about hs2. His latest query was 2019. Nothing I could see about women or womens rights.

I'm off to look at sunak now.

just because you don’t understand something , doesn’t make it delusional. Instead of passing judgement, perhaps try to understand someone else’s experience.

There are any number of perfectly lucid, perfectly sane, perfectly lovely trans people. They have always been here and (as far as anyone can tell) they always will be. All they need from you is for you to stop standing in judgement of their experience, and just let them be.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 29/06/2024 19:07

@Tandora transwomen are men. Definition of patriarchy. They have enough privilege to push women out of women's sports, push women out of toilets, refuges, awards ceremonies...

and all they need to do to achieve this is say 'I am a woman'.

Lia Thomas- mediocre competitive swimmer. Says 'I am a woman' and magically transforms into a medal winning, scholarship winning woman displacing multiple women in the process.

No privilege? My arse.

Nobody hates trans here though. I respect them well enough I just don’t want men using a card to get access to my teenage daughter and her friends. They get enough hassle as it is.

Bottom line is: once having helped women cross the road, doesn’t justify throwing them under the bus now.
