Biden Trump debate- they must get rid of Biden now?

molotovcupcakes · 28/06/2024 07:10

Biden looked so frail and incoherant at times that this must be the end of his Presidency very soon.
How have the Democrats not faced this sooner and selected someone else, I don't understand why they have let this go on for so long.
He had to be helped off the stage by his wife and it seems like elder abuse.

I can't stand Trump. But why would war be guaranteed? He didn't bring war last time did he?
Trump is all about money. Wars are very expensive. It would mean the US raising federal taxes and spending billions, which is pretty much the opposite of what Trump is about.

He's a sleaze bag, and there are many reasons to attack him, but I don't think this alarmist war narrative is accurate or helpful.

He won’t start the war, true. He told us that he will pull all US funding for Ukraine. Which guarantees a Putin victory. What are the geopolitical ramifications of a Putin victory? This is what people are concerned about.

No comment here that Trump told lies repeatedly throughout?

Just "Biden is old"

FFS

yeah, but we all know Trump lies and is a criminal narcissist. That's not an issue, it's an obvious. . What we are discussing is how JB possible can't present a reasonable alternative. Discussing that with concern ... precisely because Trump is who he is.

Jennybeans401 · 28/06/2024 08:16

Biden must be just a puppet ruler surely as he's remained in power despite such a visible decline in his cognitive and physical condition. He's an easy person to control.

EasternStandard · 28/06/2024 08:16

Aladdinzane · 28/06/2024 08:13

Yes, Trump lied through his teeth on several matters and took everything back to immigration.

Biden sounds old, but made some good points.

The hysteria is a bit much.

Even his own team can see the issue

It's absolutely ridiculous that Biden is standing to be president. He needs to step aside. He's not capable.

It wouldn't surprise me if he died of "natural causes" sometime before the election if he doesn't step aside.

Trumps not that much younger ,it's ridiculous both of them are standing

Stowickthevast · 28/06/2024 08:17

There's an explainer in The Times about potential routes to get rid of Biden

@Aladdinzane are you not concerned if he seems slow and uncertain now, how much worse he'll be in a couple of years time?

I have no love for Trump which is why I deeply want the Democrats to choose someone feasible to govern their country.

Could Joe Biden be replaced as president before the election?

With the countdown to the 2024 US election under way, questions swirl around the president’s mental fitness and memory loss

Thisoldheartofmine · 28/06/2024 08:18

@Zanatdy he's not only mumbling . Have you watched any of it ?
This
thlle national debt.
“We'd be able to wipe out” debt accumulated during Trump’s presidency, Biden said while speaking about his tax plans, before trailing off: “Making sure that we're able to make every single solitary person . . . eligible for what I've been able to do with the uh, with the COVID, excuse me, with um dealing with everything we have to do with uh. Look, if we finally beat Medicare.”
Doesn't sound too bad when you read it
But when you see or hear it , shocking

user1984778379202 · 28/06/2024 08:18

The problem with getting Biden to stand down is that Kamala Harris is not good enough to step up. It's like Veep IRL.

Completely agree. How is this kind of hysteria helpful? If anything a volatile, bad-tempered President is going to make America's enemies think twice before pulling any shit.

LongLimbs · 28/06/2024 08:19

It beggers belief that the most powerful and richest country in the world have the worst possible two options for leaders.

There are over 300 million people living there, yet it’s one of these two that will be in charge. 🤯 Mind blowing

BonifaceBonanza · 28/06/2024 08:20

America surely needs a “virile” male, late 50s/early 60s, preferably white, to stand against Trump.
He is such a risk to the entire world I can’t believe the democrats self serving has come before the good of their nation.
They should have been grooming for this for the past 5 years.

ThePoshUns · 28/06/2024 08:20

What a sorry state of affairs

azteccandle · 28/06/2024 08:21

I’m not a conspiracy theorist but…

I feel that there are forces against democracy at play in Europe and the US that we just don’t understand.

DrBlackbird · 28/06/2024 08:22

Sparticusoctopus · 28/06/2024 07:22

And then we are pretty much guaranteed WWIII. I am so angry the democrats didn’t find another candidate and angry with Biden for not stepping down. Trump will be an utter disaster for the world, not just America. Why hasn’t Biden retired? When he’s on top form he’s great but he’s clearly struggling. He’s the safest option though because he will have a team of good people around him advising him. Trump will only have sycophants.

All of this unfortunately. Why did they let Biden agree to the televised debate?! I am sure that Jill could’ve stopped him.

I could accept the US shooting itself in the foot for electing Trump but it will be such an utter disaster for the world. When Trump was president last time one of his first acts was to withdraw federal funding for any agency offering terminations and then to ban the words ‘climate change’ from all EPA documents. There was a reason that the Koch brothers (now brother) supported him as do/did all major oil producers. He also withdrew the US from WHO, UN agencies, the Paris Accord, the Iran nuclear deal etc. He will stop all funding to the Ukraine but I don’t think he will stop weapons to Israel, though who ever he appoints as Secretary of State is sure to be despicable.

A Trump presidency this time around will be a disaster for the world. Last time the Generals had some control. He won’t allow that to happen this time.

What do you mean?

GiveMeSpanakopita · 28/06/2024 08:22

Dying empires throughout history have, in their final years, tended to be led by old, weak and mentally infirm men. Eg Soviet Union, Ottoman Empire, Han Dynasty etc etc

It's uncanny, like the empire in question is expressing its death throes in its leader.

Unlikely Biden will step down although there are a number of mechanisms in place. It would have to be before the Democrat Convention as they are so stage managed that no way would there be a revolution. No sign that Harris is looking to evoke the 25th Amendment, although she could, if she and the senior Democrats really cared about their country.

Anyway if there is a surprise and Biden does the RIGHT thing for America, then I think Gavin Newsom should be the candidate. Governor of true blue California, good record, excellent communicator, looks presidential compared with Trump. Best of all, he has all his marbles.

It’s not that Biden is old it’s that he is simply not up to running for reelection to be president

he had opportunity after opportunity to call out Trumps lies but he wasn’t able to and he struggled to keep to his script that he would have rehearsed over and over again

it’s no good saying you are telling lies you need to back this up and he didn’t

we all know Trump isn’t suitable to be president but he is popular his lies don’t matter to many but you need someone opposing him to remind those voters who are not sure who they shall vote and even more so those voters who feel neither are worth voting for why it’s important to get out and vote against Trump

Dotjones · 28/06/2024 08:23

I think it's a deliberate move by the Democrats. The intention is to get Biden re-elected then pass the reins over to Harris. They know full well that Harris could not get elected on her own merit because of her gender. If they chose someone other than Biden as presidential candidate who wasn't Harris they would basically be telling the American public "this Vice President isn't fit to be President" which wouldn't be a good look either. The plan is to get Biden in then medically retire him after a few months to give Harris an almost full term as president before facing (and being rejected by) the public.

Either that or they're just massively incompetent, I don't know.

jaundicedoutlook · 28/06/2024 08:23

Jeeesus….

That was Grandpa Simpson vs Mr Burns.

Awful on every level and makes the UK PM debates look positively intellectual by comparison. Any US voters must be feeling pretty glum about their choices and you have to hope that the Democrats can manage to find a way to get Biden off the ticket.

Michelle has said that she will never enter politics.

I have to say that I don’t blame her. I wouldn’t either. But then we end up with power hungry egomaniacs. Obabma and a handful of other world leaders was an anomaly. I miss him and I’m not even American.

I don't think there's any weird forces, I just think that if you don't look after something, it deteriorates. Whether that's a house plant, your car or....democracy.

We all of us have taken democracy for granted too long and forgotten how special and unusual it is, so it's degraded.

I suppose there are 'forces' like China which I absolutely believe uses Tik Tok to enforce mental illness and vulnerability in our youth. And I am sure there are state actors messing with social media in general, to turn us against each other and make us divided and angry, which they have succeeded in doing.

But the best efforts of rival empires would fail if we had curated and cared for our democracies properly, which we haven't.

So it's mostly our fault. Mostly my generation and the one above me, not millennials and gen z.

TeaMistress · 28/06/2024 08:28

It was sad to see Biden looking so incoherent and obviously unwell. I might be judging him unfairly, and I might be wrong, but he looks like he has dementia. He couldn't string a sentence together clearly.

Jennybeans401 · 28/06/2024 08:30

From the youtube clip I have just seen Biden looks to be getting his information from his earpiece - reminiscent of Ronald Reagan.
