Biden Trump debate- they must get rid of Biden now?

Biden looked so frail and incoherant at times that this must be the end of his Presidency very soon.
How have the Democrats not faced this sooner and selected someone else, I don't understand why they have let this go on for so long.
He had to be helped off the stage by his wife and it seems like elder abuse.

Kamala Harris is unpopular due to the double whammies of racism and misogyny. Her approval ratings according to a few articles I read are high amongst democrats but then low everywhere else. There’s been quite a bit of misinformation and fake news spread about her as well unsurprisingly. She was also given by Biden - migration and voter reform - two huge millstones around her neck that she was never going to make much impact on as it’s probably going to take years.

Kamala Harris was given the illegal immigration brief and it’s been a disaster. She’s seen as ineffectual and weak. I genuinely don’t believe it is to do with race or gender - it’s that she was given an impossible task and hasn’t performed.

That kind of is an impossible task alright. It's been there since the foundation of the state. And they need the labour anyway!

Because America would never vote for a black woman in the majority; they know, sadly, that a white man struggling to do the job still has a better chance than her.

To be fair, my son lives out there. Harris is not popular - not because she’s black, she’s just seen as totally ineffective, with little idea of what she is supposed to be doing.

If they parachuted Michelle Obama in, it’s predicted that they would win by a landslide - even though she is a black female.

Zanatdy · 28/06/2024 08:01

He mumbles, he always has. Not sure if that makes him incoherent. Neither Trump or Biden are good options, surely a country as huge as the US has better options than two men who should have retired over a decade ago

Clearinguptheclutter · 28/06/2024 08:02

I haven’t seen the debate
but the strangest thing of all to me is that Jill, who seems very sharp, isn’t able to persuade him to stand aside
At this stage surely almost anyone would be a better call than Biden
The USA is not short of talented individuals. Is there really not anyone else out there capable of beating trump? It’s nuts

What's going on with the party in general though? It's like they're determined to sink themselves?

Is he being pushed into it or does his ego get in the way?

I said that he feels he is the only person who can beat Trump. Whether that is true is another matter.

Yes, the theory is that he is the only person to have beaten Trump.

HRTQueen · 28/06/2024 08:04

It’s very sad to see and there is four months of campaigning ahead of him he just isn’t up to it, questions was asked about his age in 2020 but looking back he was far more articulate he didn’t look so frail and confused

Biden needs to do the best for the country and that is to step down but his ego has not allowed him to surely those around him need to be honest

Trump looked in control and he knew it

He wasn't just mumbly though, he really was not sharp at all. I hate saying it but I really do think he's just too old.

Stowickthevast · 28/06/2024 08:05

Kamala is unpopular. I've heard Gavin Newsom, governor of California, mentioned as a possible replacement but he may be perceived as too left wing.

How could they not have predicted this? The democrats should have made Biden stand down way before it got to this stage. They're condemning the world to another 4 years of Trump.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 28/06/2024 08:07

It's absolutely ridiculous that Biden is standing to be president. He needs to step aside. He's not capable.

It wouldn't surprise me if he died of "natural causes" sometime before the election if he doesn't step aside.

KvotheTheBloodless · 28/06/2024 08:07

Re: the video, elderly people often have poor night vision, so it's not surprising he needed a hand on the stairs - the lights went down fairly quickly so his eyes would take a while to adjust.

I agree that both candidates are too old though, it's genuinely concerning that these are apparently the best the USA can offer.

Mrsdyna · 28/06/2024 08:09

I can't find good highlights, they're all way too edited. Anyone find anything?

ThisOldThang · 28/06/2024 08:10

YankTank · 28/06/2024 07:53

Do you guys know how the electoral system works in the US? Each state holds a Republican primary election and a Democratic primary election. That winner is on the ballot. Biden won the 2024 Democratic nomination fair and square. You can’t overturn the results just because you don’t like them. It’s not the British system—there is no ousting of leaders outside of the ballot box.

There is, apparently, a mechanism for the states to withdraw their primary votes and reassign them to another candidate.

I doubt it would come to that. I expect he'll have withdrawn by this time next week.

Aladdinzane · 28/06/2024 08:10

No comment here that Trump told lies repeatedly throughout?

Just "Biden is old"

FFS

YankTank · 28/06/2024 08:10

There were 4 candidates put to the public on the 2024 Democratic Primary Election ballot:
Joe Biden
Marianne Williamson
Jason Palmer
Dean Phillips

Joe Biden won.

IwillNOTplayfastandloosewithpublicfinances · 28/06/2024 08:10

It’s uncomfortable watching for sure. How has America come to this? Elder abuse v pandering to a known criminal narcissist? A country with so much talent and some of the best universities in the world? They have turned themselves into a joke on the world stage. Scary times.

JennyBeanR · 28/06/2024 08:11

Sparticusoctopus · 28/06/2024 07:22

And then we are pretty much guaranteed WWIII. I am so angry the democrats didn’t find another candidate and angry with Biden for not stepping down. Trump will be an utter disaster for the world, not just America. Why hasn’t Biden retired? When he’s on top form he’s great but he’s clearly struggling. He’s the safest option though because he will have a team of good people around him advising him. Trump will only have sycophants.

I can't stand Trump. But why would war be guaranteed? He didn't bring war last time did he?
Trump is all about money. Wars are very expensive. It would mean the US raising federal taxes and spending billions, which is pretty much the opposite of what Trump is about.

He's a sleaze bag, and there are many reasons to attack him, but I don't think this alarmist war narrative is accurate or helpful.

It’s never been done before. It would take something pretty extreme for the majority of states to overturn a free and fair election result. If states won’t even do it now that one of the nominees has 34 felonies under his belt, what makes you think they’ll do it because one of the nominees is “too old”?

x2boys · 28/06/2024 08:13

shearwater2 · 28/06/2024 07:24

I don't understand why Kamala Harris couldn't run. Why are these dreadful old gimmers in line to run the most powerful country on earth? Trump is also too old and a convicted felon. It's all so fucked up.

She's a women and mixed race ,if Hilary Clinton couldn't get elected i think KH stands little chance sadly .

Aladdinzane · 28/06/2024 08:13

EasternStandard · 28/06/2024 08:12

Did you listen to the debate?

Yes, Trump lied through his teeth on several matters and took everything back to immigration.

Biden sounds old, but made some good points.

The hysteria is a bit much.

Ionacat · 28/06/2024 08:14

I think it’s very hard to unseat an existing president. The democrats had an unpalatable choice - a bloody battle which would have given the Republicans a gift or try and soldier on. They clearly went for the soldier on approach and crossed their fingers and it hasn’t worked.
It will all come down to the democrat donors - if they say he needs to stand down, then it will happen.

bluelavender · 28/06/2024 08:15

Trump is just awful

Bidens age is an issue because it is a very demanding job that needs a person who can make critical decisions- and he comes across as too infirm to do this

They are both terrible options.
