Biden Trump debate- they must get rid of Biden now?

Biden looked so frail and incoherant at times that this must be the end of his Presidency very soon.
How have the Democrats not faced this sooner and selected someone else, I don't understand why they have let this go on for so long.
He had to be helped off the stage by his wife and it seems like elder abuse.

It's rather disturbing that the best the parties have to offer are biden and trump.

CormorantStrikesBack · 28/06/2024 07:46

Apparently they can’t get rid of him. He has to decide to step down. He has enough nominees to legally carry on, no other Democrat does. If he does step down it doesn’t mean Kamala Harris takes over. It needs to go back to a voting stage I believe and the people who previously selected Biden can then choose someone else. This can’t happen till August apparently. Sadly i think Trump is going to win big time.

Kamala Harris is not popular. If there was a strong VP things might be different.

Why is she so unpopular that they prefer Biden? I have nothing against him but he looked out of it in that debate. If you can't pull off a debate, how can you run a country?

bluelavender · 28/06/2024 07:47

There is a mechanism. Biden stands down from the candidacy. At the Democrat convention they have a massive bunfight and a new candidate can emerge that will have support of the party- and hopefully wider public appeal

Jennybeans401 · 28/06/2024 07:49

I can only think some money is changing hands somewhere for the very corrupt Trump to even be in the running. Those in power must be using this situation to their advantage because it's plain to see Biden is not in a reasonable state of health to govern or compete.

Janehasamane · 28/06/2024 07:51

Watching the video of him talking, it is now reached the stage of turning him into a spectacle. Old age has sadly caught up with him, and he’s not fully in charge of his facilities or his physicality any more. Trump is only 4 years younger but to be fair still as sharp as a pin and physically able. Just he’s a twat.

they need to remove Biden, it can’t go on.

This is my hope.
I imagine Ukraine are very concerned right now.

I don't understand why Kamala Harris couldn't run. Why are these dreadful old gimmers in line to run the most powerful country on earth? Trump is also too old and a convicted felon. It's all so fucked up.

Because America would never vote for a black woman in the majority; they know, sadly, that a white man struggling to do the job still has a better chance than her.

Some woman on NBC just said 'i do think a lot lot of beds are wetting tonight and pearls being clutched'. I'd say she's not wrong!

"And then we are pretty much guaranteed WWIII. I am so angry the democrats didn’t find another candidate and angry with Biden for not stepping down. Trump will be an utter disaster for the world, not just America. Why hasn’t Biden retired? When he’s on top form he’s great but he’s clearly struggling. He’s the safest option though because he will have a team of good people around him advising him. Trump will only have sycophants."

I'm no Trump supporter but don't his supporters say that that's the one thing that stands in Trumps favour? That he's not interested in world politics and no interest in war so there wouldn't be ww3.

I genuinely don't understand why the democrats don't have another candidate now seeing as Biden is clearly unfit for this role now. But I suppose people are voting for ideology.

YankTank · 28/06/2024 07:53

Do you guys know how the electoral system works in the US? Each state holds a Republican primary election and a Democratic primary election. That winner is on the ballot. Biden won the 2024 Democratic nomination fair and square. You can’t overturn the results just because you don’t like them. It’s not the British system—there is no ousting of leaders outside of the ballot box.

misscockerspaniel · 28/06/2024 07:54

If I could wave a magic wand, the next US president would be Michelle Obama. The last thing that the world needs is a Trump win.

The only hope then is that the orange toddler goes to jail?

Oh yes! She would be amazing.

It's exactly his lack of interest in foreign policy that makes war more likely. He might favour a withdrawal from Europe (thus increasing the threat from Russia); he might also look to appease Putin at the expense of Ukraine/CEE. And let's not mention potentially aggressive trade wars with Europe when it comes to LNG. Trump won't be good for Europe or peace in Europe I don't think

He won the Republican primary election at the ballot box. The people choose the nominee. The system is not at all like the UK system.

I'm only a very casual observer, but she seems to have been quite low Vis as a VP. Is there a reason for that? It seems like missing an opportunity to get herself out there? Or maybe I just haven't seen her.

Michelle has said that she will never enter politics.

merrymelodies · 28/06/2024 07:56

Trump is a convicted felon. He shouldn't even be campaigning. Biden, bless 'im, needs to retire. How can such a large and powerful nation not be able to put forward better candidates is a mystery to me.

Kamala Harris was given the illegal immigration brief and it’s been a disaster. She’s seen as ineffectual and weak. I genuinely don’t believe it is to do with race or gender - it’s that she was given an impossible task and hasn’t performed.

ApresSailingQueen1 · 28/06/2024 07:58

I only caught some of the footage but it made me feel really queasy. He's so obviously confused. It felt like cruelty parading him like that.

You need enough money behind you to get on the primary election ballot, where the nominees are elected. Then the public vote for who the Republican and Democratic nominees will be.

I think all the people saying “is Biden the best the democrats could offer” are getting it wrong. He’s not the best, many of them know that, but because he refused to step down, they either had to let him run or attempt to force him out. The latter would have been awful, and the worry was that the infighting would have lost them the election.

Can only hope that he (and Jill, I suspect the more important decision maker is his wife) now realised he is going to lose the election, so he should step aside for someone else to have a chance. There is no mechanism to force him out now, but he can step aside.
