Biden Trump debate- they must get rid of Biden now?

molotovcupcakes · 28/06/2024 07:10

Biden looked so frail and incoherant at times that this must be the end of his Presidency very soon.
How have the Democrats not faced this sooner and selected someone else, I don't understand why they have let this go on for so long.
He had to be helped off the stage by his wife and it seems like elder abuse.

I found this podcast series interesting and listened to the last episode earlier today where Martin Wolf discusses the implications of a second trump presidency.
I'm thinking about buying his book but wondering if the money would be better invested in a bottle of whiskey and a revolver.

there is a long running story in the US that the democrats will parachute in Michelle Obama. Let’s just see.
Trump with Starmer is a marriage made in hell so Michelle would be a much better option but unlikely.

I think both of them and their shocking desperation to prove their loyalty to genocidal Israel, combined with the appalling, racist dehumanisation of Palestinians by the fat, corrupt Trump, was shameful. The only winners, whichever one of these senile, evil, old bastards wins, will be Israel, which totally control American politicians.

yay, more the jews control politics shit.

Michelle Obama isn't, sadly, a viable candidate in any sense.

She's never in her life run for office or been elected! I absolutely adore her and think she's amazing, wonderful role model, but I don't think she has the credentials to be POTUS. I think people just mention her because she has such high name recognition in relation to the White House. You might as well say Taylor Swift should be parachuted in...

Trump?

HRTQueen · 30/06/2024 15:23

Trumps support is well established we know this it doesn’t matter what he says he will still have the support of millions of voters

if Michelle Obama were to put herself forward firstly it will be addressed she has no political office experience, she was married to an ex president and that is why we know her and the absolute onslaught she will receive and we know what it will be, why would she put herself and her family through this (again and it would be worse) she is too good a person to have to deal with that

maybe in the future if she goes into politics she would be a great candidate but she has always been very clear that she has no intention to

They need someone with experience in office

But did Barack have lots of experience before he went in? They're both experienced lawyers and I assume she's well acquainted with the white house now. She's not a crazy proposition by any means.

Barack was a senator for years, I think - the presidential campaign wasn't his first foray into politics.

I have his book beside the bed, I should really read it 🙄 but still I think Michelle has spent enough time knocking around the corridors of power that she's a safe pair of hands. And they elected the orange buffoon, with nothing to recommend him. So a lack of political experience doesn't seem to be an obstacle!

Could someone explain why Kamala H is so unpopular- is it just pure racism and sexism or something else going on?

Bedofroses85 · 30/06/2024 16:05

EstellaWaitHereForMe · 28/06/2024 07:52

Because America would never vote for a black woman in the majority; they know, sadly, that a white man struggling to do the job still has a better chance than her.

What is the evidence of this? How did Obama get elected then? Sure this demonstrates racism is not a factor to stop a black candidate being elected?

HRTQueen · 30/06/2024 16:11

Yes Barak Obama had been a senator

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 30/06/2024 16:12

Could someone explain why Kamala H is so unpopular-

I thought it was because she was given soem difficult area to do something with - like border controls which have't gone well but PP have said she doesn't seem to come across well in speeches.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-60061473

This suggest it was the tough assignments ( instead of being built up and put in place to run she was given the impossible tasks) but also more there's been fair bit of staff turn over under her as well.

Kamala Harris speaking

Kamala Harris one year: Where did it go wrong for her?

Will the first female vice-president be remembered for making history - or go down as a historic footnote?

  1. Unsuccessful (at least that's the public perception)
  2. Not influential
  3. Weak brand recognition (in the US and abroad)
  4. Woman
  5. Woman of colour

Obama didn't just appear from nowhere and walk into the Presidency. He was preparing for decades... he was elected as Senator for Illinois back in 1997, after a successful career as a lawyer and an academic (teaching constitutional law at a renowned University), and all kinds of community leadership + activism roles, including in the church. He didn't run for President until 2009.

His wins in 2009 and 2012 showed certain swaths of America could just about vote for a black man as President, if he was exceptional, which Barack Obama is. There are plausible arguments that Trump only succeeded in 2016 as a backlash to Obama. Don't underestimate how strong racism still is in the US, and it is growing (especially thanks to all the oxygen Trump has given it). I think it'd now be even harder for a black man to get elected as President, and even harder for a black woman. It's a horrible thing.

Sloejelly · 30/06/2024 16:24

I'm assuming she's a democrat and not a sex pest. That's a win! (But as I say, assume!)

It would be interesting to see what would happen if Michelle ran.

Imo there's no way Barack would have been elected if he wasn't half white, but maybe the US is ready now. However, she deserves a dignified campaign, not being a last minute replacement.

deeahgwitch · 30/06/2024 18:42

Forget about a dignified campaign if needs must @CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment

Sad as it is, and Barack Obama is an exceptional man, I tend to agree with this.

Abstaining the best message??
The message that you send to those in power when you abstain from voting is 'do what you like we don't care'
Power corrupts; letting those in power know that you're not even watching them tells them they can get away with anything they like.

Exactly this. Abstaining is the cowardly thing to do. It has been proven time and time again that the larger the voter turnout is, the more likely democrats are to win BC despite what people say, most Americans are more liberal and left leaning than not. The trump voting dipshits might get more airtime but that does not mean that they are the majority.

yay, more the jews control politics shit.

How utterly deluded do you have to be to have completely failed to notice that every “successful” US politician is AIPAC endorsed. If you’re not supporting genocidal Israel, you don’t stand a chance of getting ahead politically in the vast majority of US states! Look at the millions AIPAC spent trying to unseat Jamal Bowman, who dared to criticise the Gaza genocide.
