Biden Trump debate- they must get rid of Biden now?

molotovcupcakes · 28/06/2024 07:10

Biden looked so frail and incoherant at times that this must be the end of his Presidency very soon.
How have the Democrats not faced this sooner and selected someone else, I don't understand why they have let this go on for so long.
He had to be helped off the stage by his wife and it seems like elder abuse.

How has it come to this? Any reasonable Democrat candidate would beat Trump. Any reasonable Republican candidate would beat Biden. It's like both parties found their worst candidate and voters have to vote for the best of the worst.

I don't know if that's true now. 20 years ago maybe, but society has become so polarised now that it's pushed politics to the fringes.

It won’t just be 4 years if Trump wins, though. Do you honestly believe he’ll leave in 4 years? I can’t see it. We know who he is….he tried to pull this last time. Anyone who says that they can envision Trump quietly leaving office needs to give their head a wobble. He and his associates put their all between November 2020 - January 2021 into overturning the election. The guardrails held. Only just. Those who took their constitutional oaths seriously are gone now, replaced with loyalists. Lessons on why January 2021 failed have been learned. I don’t believe the guardrails will hold next time. What Trump said about Biden going to prison in the debate is frightening AF. The train is coming down the tracks and we’re just stood there watching it like a bunch of fucking idiots.

The US isn't a lawless free for all yet, there are still four year term limits and military will gladly eject him.

Even though they're traditionally Republican-leaning many of them strongly dislike Trump because he has zero respect for the chain of command, or indeed following any procedure.

jennylamb1 · 29/06/2024 09:57

I think they urgently need a new candidate and by refusing to stand down Biden is actually causing America real damage and I would say being ethically irresponsible. Simply on climate change, Trump can't be allowed to get in.

And then we are pretty much guaranteed WWIII. I am so angry the democrats didn’t find another candidate and angry with Biden for not stepping down. Trump will be an utter disaster for the world, not just America. Why hasn’t Biden retired? When he’s on top form he’s great but he’s clearly struggling. He’s the safest option though because he will have a team of good people around him advising him. Trump will only have sycophants.

What makes you think this?

Russia invaded Ukraine under Bidens watch
The Israel Palestine situation escalated under Bidens watch
The China Taiwan situation has been getting increasingly precarious under Bidens watch

There are a lot of reasons to dislike Trump and what he stands for but he is far better for keeping global stability.

Read that back though, isn't it quite scary where you're considering the possibility of someone having to be ejected by the military?

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ at the poster's request.

@DanielGault I shouldn't have responded to that comment really because the poster sounded unhinged. It is what would theoretically happen though.

I have to say wonder would it happen. The older I get and the more I see, I think anything can happen tbh! It's scary.

For those who are saying his rally speech was like a different person.

He was reading from a teleprompter using words someone else had written. They were good words but quite honestly if he couldn’t even read from a teleprompter he should be removed immediately.

Thing is I think he thinks he is doing a good job and who else would replace him (in his view there is no one else as suitable as him!)

Truee, but then as with earpieces I'd have thought using a teleprompter would would confusing for anyone who's senses were frittering - I found it hard enough and I'm (more or less!!) in command of mine

Maybe PPs have a point about Parkinsons, where it tends to wax and wane, and neurological screening was notable by its absence in Biden's latest medical report which was published in February

Jill Biden needs to take full responsibility for this, she's enabling Biden to be embarrassed on the world stage & the debate on Thursday was a disgrace. If you care & love him like she supposedly does, she would tell him to stand down. But she won't as she's drunk on power & status, she doesn't give a damn about him & his obvious mental decline, jill should be charged with elder abuse.

You don’t get to be president without a large ego and huge confidence in your ability. What makes you think Jill could persuade him his abilities have gone? Especially if his short term memory is wavering. Just ask families of people with early dementia about the difficulties they face and subterfuge they need to employ to stop then driving.

She can't tell him to stand down, *user1484056932, *only encourage if that's what she chooses to do

I admit I've wondered myself if she holds her own position higher than her husband's interests, but obviously I can't know that and am not going to start blaming her for something we're not aware of

The "You answered all the questions!!" last night was painful though - sounded like a KS1 teacher with a little kid Confused

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 29/06/2024 11:17

Dr. Jill Biden struck me as the most reluctant first lady in living memory. Unlike most she kept her job after the election.
I really don't see her getting all lady Macbeth here.

Maybe not, and that's why I said we can't know, but who can say what effect actually having the job might impose on an otherwise balanced personality?

She certainly seems keen enough to encourage folk to vote for him, but perhaps that's just (misplaced) loyalty ...

Edited to add surely the "most reluctant" tag would have to go to Melania, who was almost never visible unless she really couldn't avoid it on state visits, etc.?

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 29/06/2024 11:32

It's just as well, melenia doesn't have much value to add. To be fair she wanted their son to finish at his school in NYC.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/06/2024 11:37

You're not kidding Hmm and I have to wonder whether anything will be different if Trump's elected again

TBH I thought she might divorce him when he left the White House last time, but who knows what goes on behind closed doors

OonaStubbs · 29/06/2024 13:40

Trump is now 8/13, odds on to win.
Biden 7/2

I expect Trump will win now unless something dramatic happens between now and the election.

hastalav · 29/06/2024 14:20

So a convicted felon (or whatever term), who tried a coup, who encouraged disinfectant drinking for Covid, oh I could go on.... may very well be elected again.

I honestly cannot believe it. If the role of the President is to lead the nation and uphold its values etc. then I'm afraid there doesn't seem to be much of value left across the pond.

But vote they will, and given the Hobson's choice the electorate has now, abstaining would be the best message, but that won't happen in enough numbers to matter anymore.

Sugartreemumma · 29/06/2024 14:45

Abstaining the best message??
The message that you send to those in power when you abstain from voting is 'do what you like we don't care'
Power corrupts; letting those in power know that you're not even watching them tells them they can get away with anything they like.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 29/06/2024 15:46

The US already has low voter turnout so I don't think abstaining would make much of a statement.

On the ballot there's a blank where you can write in other candidates but I think they have to be registered beforehand. And the eternal question, who would both do a good job and want it.

UnfriendMe · 29/06/2024 17:48

Not to make things worse, but you should check out one of John Oliver's latest episodes on what a second trump presidency will look like, it is absolutely terrifying. As an American and registered democrat, I'm absolutely appalled by the party. How they could not have foreseen this? it's not like Biden hasn't been showing signs of dementia for a while. It's all so...depressing.

John Oliver is incredibly biased in one direction. He thinks men who say the magic words 'I'm a woman' literally are women even if they still look (and are) completely male, with a beard and a dick.

He cannot be relied on as a neutral source.

All the lefty woke bros were saying the first time around Trump would cause world war 3 / nuclear armageddon. Did it happen? No.

dougalfromthemagicroundabout · 29/06/2024 18:06

Whoever is Trumps VP and the team around him will be important. Trump's a narcissist who doesn't really want to bother with detail. I think he can be managed, but the VP will be important.

TillyMSF · 29/06/2024 18:17

I watched it live. Biden said the right things but he looked confused and lost. I think the Democrats had to step out of the way before due to Biden's winning 2020 - despite someone's protest to the contrary.

I don't know if Biden can come back from this disastrous debate. I've seen some want to have Michelle Obama run. I don't know what's wrong with the VP but there may be something the Republicans have on her.
