What on earth is going on outside the university where the live debate is taking place? Sounds pretty crazy!

It's doing my head in. As a tinnitus sufferer, it's distracting and massively annoying.

I mean, that’s pretty much the point isn’t it. That’s why they were doing it. It’s annoying and distracting for everyone regardless of tinnitus.

tiggergoesbounce · 26/06/2024 21:39

Women are way more risk of assault in their own homes than in public spaces tbh and we have unsafe policing levels under this government, and a benefits system that grinds women into such poverty that leaving when your husband is the main earner is almost impossible. Women and children are living in unsafe housing environments full of mould, often temporary housing. Women and children are unsafe sitting on waiting lists for years, or waiting hours or days (!) in A&E waiting rooms under the Tory government

The Tories do not care about the safety of women and children

Absolutely.,

On the subject of Tories and women, I have PTSD from an extremely abusive relationship which included years of stalking and harassment. I was unable to receive help from DV services because they were unable to take any new referrals. I’ve been on the NHS waiting list for EMDR for 18 months and recently had an assessment. The psychologist told me that despite the fact I am clearly in high need, unfortunately she cannot guarantee I will receive the therapy due to the laying off of psychologists within the trust and therefore priority must go to the most serious of cases. I can’t afford private EMDR as I’m on my knees as it is. This is all under the party that apparently puts women first. They don’t give a fuck.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 26/06/2024 21:44

Saying that lowering NI reduces pensions
The Tories have not clarified what will happen to the self employed in 30 years' time when suddenly they aren't entitled to a full state pension because they havent paid in enough. All they are doing is forcing the self employed not to rely on a state pension so any NI savings will he eaten up by a private pension contribution.

And when Boris was mayor of London he shut the women’s refuges there.
Thatcher shut homeless shelters.

Tories don’t like the poor, the needy or the disabled.

I’m not voting for Labour because I don’t agree with taxing pensioners who are already struggling to get by with higher food and utility bills. And I think women have a right to feel safe in public spaces. Why should that safety net be removed for the sake of not offending a minority.

Pensioners already pay tax under this Tory government on any earnings over the personal allowance limit. I'm a pensioner - I pay tax now.

MeinKraft · 26/06/2024 21:48

Bloke from SNP is brave accusing other politicians of fraud!

What a stupid thing to say re the Taliban! Starmer should have pointed out the numbers of people that Rwanda have agreed to take- a miniscule amount- for a hefty chunk of money!

He did try, but Sunak was talking over him constantly, and it was hard to hear. The whole thing was a farce.

MeinKraft · 26/06/2024 21:50

I was expecting Daisy May Cooper just then. Quite disappointed tbh.

Free Palestine. Sick of bloody protests about this

Listen to the BBC, however, and you’d think we were on the verge of a ‘far-right’ takeover. It’s laughable. I have never met a far-right person, and never seen a far-right march or demonstration. But I have met countless bullying, fanatical, intolerant woke lefties. Farage has been physically attacked twice, and will not be campaigning in Scotland because he’s been told it isn’t safe! When Rishi Sunak announced the election we had people shouting abuse and playing music to drown out his voice. The left have almost complete control of the universities, the arts, the libraries, and the BBC. Even publishing seems to be under left-wing control. Take a stroll around the history section in Waterstones! They might as well re-name it the ‘how Britain is responsible for everything bad that ever happened’ section. Pretty soon we’ll have a Labour government with a massive majority and a PM who is basically a socialist. It’s the woke left who are the real threat to democracy and free speech. The far-right have about as much influence as the Mormons.

‘Are you two really the best we’ve got?’

well quite.

And then afterwards he was interviewed and he said he wanted someone with a personality! FFS. I despair. I can’t watch any more of this I’ve turned it off.

I’d just settle for honesty and integrity myself.

ghostyslovesheets · 26/06/2024 21:58

Pretty soon we’ll have a Labour government with a massive majority and a PM who is basically a socialist I know - I can't wait!

TheUsualChaos · 26/06/2024 21:59

Omg just started watching the debate on catch up. Finding the background noise so distracting. Not sure I can watch much more unless it settles down.

Do you mean you personally want to pay higher tax or other people?

For public services that work - absolutely

It’s Mishal Husain. She’s my favourite interviewer.

I like her (well on other programmes I have) but here I was very disappointed with her. She allowed Sunak to interrupt and speak over Starmer continually. She seemed biased towards Sunak, pressing Starmer but letting Sunak off the hook. Very poor show I thought.

Churchview · 26/06/2024 22:06

We already pay higher taxes under the Tories.
I am and always have been happy to pay higher taxes for public services that actually function.
I cannot fathom how people are bribed by an extra tenner in their pocket when they can't get a GP appointment, have to wait a year to get their hip op done and drive over pot holes.

Churchview · 26/06/2024 22:08

‘Are you two really the best we’ve got?’

What a bloody stupid question. I mean, what was the point of it?
What outcome did he expect that would benefit anyone or help anyone make a decision.

ghostyslovesheets · 26/06/2024 21:08

@EasternStandard so we should stop accepting people who have a legitimate asylum claims? Really? Once they have been processed they can work and pay tax and all sorts! but what should we do - send them back to hell?

So when Labour get back in next week, they better get cracking on building houses to home all these fast track asylum seekers. Because we haven’t got nearly enough for the people who live here. We’re going to hell in a hand cart aren’t we?

Because that extra tenner can make a lot of difference to a lot of people.

FeelingHotHotHotFeelingHotHotHot · 26/06/2024 22:10

The presenter was very good, but she said at the start, 'in 9 days time one of these men will be Prime Minister.'

How does she know that?! It may not be Labour or Conservative.

ALSO, when an audience member asks a question, and the politician says their name, it really grates on me! 😠 Presenter says 'Sue wants to ask a question' and they say 'well, SUE....' REALLY ANNOYS ME! Angry

The presenter calls the 2 men by their full name too! 'well Keir Starmer!' 😆

You need to change the law to protect single sex spaces

And raising taxes is highly addictive,
