What on earth is going on outside the university where the live debate is taking place? Sounds pretty crazy!

It’s Mishal Husain. She’s my favourite interviewer.

I listen to R4 in the mornings too and think she’s doing brilliantly here

voiceofastar · 26/06/2024 21:11

God help those daughters if they develop a disability and struggle to work.

ghostyslovesheets · 26/06/2024 21:11

@EasternStandard people have a right to claim asylum - anywhere they want to - do you want to do away with that? that 60% have the right to be here

voiceofastar · 26/06/2024 21:11

not that they’ll ever need to claim benefits, of course.

Nicesalad · 26/06/2024 21:12

I don't understand why the BBC are allowed to say that one of these men will be our next PM. Surely they have to be neutral? And it is possible that neither the Conservatives nor Labour will win. We haven't voted yet!

On a higher level than British people? Probably in work benefits like UC top up or CB - most of the UASC I work with want an education and a good job and to work

Fizzadora · 26/06/2024 21:01

Why doesn't he mention his Dad owned the factory?
Not exactly like going down the pit is it, but you'd think so the way he bangs on about it.
It doesn't make him (or the other one whose Mum worked for the NHS) any more aware of what life is actually like for lots of ordinary people who live pay cheque to pay cheque or not even that in many cases.
Labour won't make things any better. It will just be same shit different day. They will shout a lot about how much they are doing for the little people but in reality they will just be better at covering up how much their rich mates are benefitting than the Conservatives, just like Blair & Brown were.

Oh god there's nothing more depressing than the 'things will never change why bother voting' crew

You’re focusing on the part of my post that isn’t related to what you were saying

I’m not questioning the 60% I’m saying you won’t send many people back and faster processing will invite higher numbers

I have an issue with faster processing being a solution to trafficking. It won’t be it’ll make it more attractive

I have!! (Voted) as have many others.

Sunak has totally lost the plot.

It's doing my head in. As a tinnitus sufferer, it's distracting and massively annoying.

I've had to turn it off. I have a headache now.

Sorry, I was referring to Rishi’s daughters

tiggergoesbounce · 26/06/2024 21:15

As if he can talk about making the world a better place for women "for his daughters", as if they will ever live in the world we are talking about.

Free Palestine. Sick of bloody protests about this

It’s getting rediculous now. I feel sorry for any Jewish kids who go to uni in this country.

Keir has mentioned he ran the CPS, take a shot!

Next one when he tells us his dad was a toolmaker

We've been playing this too.

My dad was a toolmaker.
Smash the gangs.
Fully costed.

Drink!

but it is just one part of the problem - I don't thin I ever said faster processing would stop trafficking - that is a global issue to be tackled globally - but if we can people here from Ukraine we can do the same for other countries - maybe we need to start there and look at how we remove the criminals completely

Exactly!

MeinKraft · 26/06/2024 21:16

Don't agree with Rishi that you're never allowed to change your mind on an issue. Surely it's important to keep listening and learning about things and change policy as appropriate...Tories are so inflexible, even when they do take a U turn they insist that they didn't!

DramaLlamaBangBang · 26/06/2024 21:17

Bloody hell someone has mentioned the B word!

GettingAwayFromYou · 26/06/2024 21:17

voiceofastar · 26/06/2024 21:11

That's exactly what I was thinking.

voiceofastar · 26/06/2024 21:18

‘I know how hard it is, I know what the struggles are like’ 🤣🤣🤣

anonymousmom · 26/06/2024 21:19

I think rishi has just got my vote, I agree women need protected spaces, I am in agreement we need to be understanding and caring towards anyone making a transition but women deserve spaces they don't feel intimated in

EasternStandard · 26/06/2024 21:20

ghostyslovesheets · 26/06/2024 21:16

We could but you’d have to change international law otherwise you’ll get systems such as the Ukraine one plus traffickers

If you did both it would get rid of the need for criminal gangs so I’m with you on that

voiceofastar · 26/06/2024 21:20

‘For all the people like you, who have lost [90%] of your business [due to decisions by our party], we are going to cut UC which you are undoubtably currently having to claim’

tiggergoesbounce · 26/06/2024 21:20

I think the "Fully costed" is important though, as Rishi keeps saying labour are unclear on where the money is coming - the costings are set out in the manifesto.
