Something about Taylor swift and her swifties really grind my gears,

She has donated to food banks in every city of her tour.

The head of a network of foodbanks in Liverpool said "Because of rising prices, rising need and falling donations, we’ve been having to subsidise our food ourselves for a long while.
“But it’s fair to say that Taylor Swift has essentially paid our food bill for 12 months"
A foodbank she donated to in Tampa said it would pay for 125,000 meals.

There are considerably worse people to be a fan of.

I also don't really see how much her fans can annoy you. Where do you see them? I don't see much about things I'm not interested in because that's how social media works. Yes, she's on the news, but that's just a news story that doesn't interest you - doesn't that happen quite frequently? Day to day I have zero Taylor Swift-based interactions with people. A couple of people I work with saw the tour, but again that was just a story about what they did at the weekend in the same way they might mention they saw any other musician.
Obviously some people are really massive fans - but I don't see how it affects you enough to actually bother you.

Don't like her music - but think swifties were sent to annoy men
And Kanye

It works

ha ha, true. I think the determination to insist she's MEDIOCRE comes from fear that mostly young women had the power to appoint their own hero and make her rich and influential. Can't be having that now.

Thedogscollar · 25/06/2024 21:52

@MumofHennHals
Posts like yours annoy me but I'm sure you couldn't give a rats arse what I think.
I can't imagine TS the billionaire losing any sleep over your gears grinding either.
Such a futile post about nothing.

You need to calm down.

Ah it's nice to have a friend! Didn't realise it was you Welsh Nerd until I saw you quoted. Welcome to another Swiftie thread!

Ps I am also a Welsh Nerd. Of the West Wales beachy kind. No one online is ever from here but I keep posting in hope. Are you also looking forward to the one day of (cruel) summer we have forecast for tomorrow? ☀ 😁

GingerPirate · 25/06/2024 21:58

Yes, one here.
Don't see anything about the music and going to such concert would cause me severe anxiety.
But, I'm a bit old for Taylor Swift, "in my time"
music was a bit different.
😁

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 25/06/2024 21:59

Ah op?!

Somedays she'll be singing her songs at Wembley
And all you're ever gonna be is mean...

Onabench · 25/06/2024 22:02

I see more posts on here complaining about Taylor, than acting like OTT fans 😭 you're the one who is talking about her 😂
Move on, don't engage.

CruCru · 25/06/2024 22:04

I don’t feel strongly about Taylor Swift. I sometimes like to listen to her songs in the car.

I am a bit weirded out by people who are utterly fanatical about her … but I am whenever someone is fanatical. It isn’t about her.

Theres a guy I follow on Instagram who created (with others) the Last of Us games and telly series. The comments he gets (positive and negative) are absolutely nutty.

It's not age, it's just whatever floats your boat I think. I don't do crowds since I was a teen so I can't go but love to hear the stories!

Screamingabdabz · 25/06/2024 22:19

This Taylor Swift yawning is so tedious…

Her global tour has been a triumph. Fans, their families and plenty of A list celebrities (and royalty) have been there enjoying the sheer joy, kinship and spectacle. It’s one of the few truly beautiful and fantastic things going on in the world for people of all generations, sexuality, nationalities.

Your pointless sniping at the sidelines just says ‘miserable’, ‘bitter’ and ‘out of touch’.

OnAndOnAndonAgain · 25/06/2024 22:31

I'm finding it fascinating more than anything else, some of the fans are a bit extreme to say the least. Well on here anyway

I quite like some of her songs they can be quite catchy, as good pop music should be. I did realise yesterday though that there's a couple of songs I like that I thought were here but actually aren't so I'm probably not destined to be a swifty

And she offset her carbon footprint by 2x the required amount

Gave 50k in bonuses to her dancers

Boosted uk economy by 1 billion

Putting · 25/06/2024 22:42

I definitely find some of her fans too intense. Not so much the teenagers - that goes with the territory - but the obsession that some grown adults seem to have with her is slightly scary.

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 25/06/2024 21:21

My daughter will be thrilled her mere existence annoys you so much!

FWIW I’ve heard Swifties can be a little “intense” online when it comes to defending their idol, but when my daughter told me about watching her live last week it sounded really quite wholesome- swapping friendship bracelets with other people, talking to strangers about their outfits and everyone singing and dancing and having a great time. No trouble at all, great atmosphere and TS puts on a great show. She also makes very generous donations to food banks in each city she’s been to so far. Doesn’t sound so bad imo.

I’ve just read about her donations to foodbanks!

😂😂😂. thats hilarious.. its a cult! there have been bands and entertainers for years and years people have gone mad over... The Beatles, Queen, Take That, Robbie Williams, Spice Girls.. there's so many... just cos you don't enjoy what she does doesn't mean its anything sinister... probably means you're just getting old

Edited

I would’ve thought the 😂 emoji I used indicated I was joking. Perhaps you are also just getting old 🙂

For me its anyone who becomes obsessed with things/people. Swifties all seem to be mega fans, not just 'oh yeah, I like her songs', and I've never understood that and find it quite immature in grown ups. Not just about Taylor Swifts, but anything

It’s always been the way. From the Beatles to Take That, to One Direction (and no offence to any artists I’ve not mentioned). Sometimes an artist really gets fans connected and obsessed.

Taylor Swift isn’t my kind of music but she’s clearly very good at what she does and super successful. I respect that and I guess the obsessive fans come with the territory

MrsAvocet · 26/06/2024 09:45

I couldn't name a single Taylor Swift song if my life literally depended on it, but it's no skin off my nose if other people love her. No, I don't "get it" but she's obviously developed a product that people want and has marketed it very effectively - good for her. And I believe Donald Trump disapproves of her so she's obviously got positive attributes! Personally, I wouldn't spend the amount of money that people are doing to watch her to see any artist. But then I probably spend money on things that others would think are ridiculous. I don't get the hype, but nor do I get the hate. Every generation has big artists that attract a huge fan base and I'm sure there are worse things than Taylor Swift for people to feel passionate about.

I swear l read somewhere that Trump said he couldn’t believe someone as intelligent as Taylor supported Biden.

Dd is mad for her, and I’ve learnt stuff about her from DD.
She’s a philanthropist, a feminist, won’t let a man put her down, and a professional. She’s a great role model to girls across the world.

I wish she’d run for president tbh.

Screamingabdabz · 26/06/2024 10:31

I’ve loved TS’s music for years but I did NOT know about her charitable giving. This is amazing. And the fact that she does it discretely without fanfare while the ‘haters hate’ and dipsticks like the ones on this thread bang on about how she’s just mediocre and ‘don’t get the hype’… she’s pure class.

Ye are getting boring now.
You do know its ok for people to like different things ya?

SerafinasGoose · 26/06/2024 12:56

It's fair to say that superfans of anyone are a bit of a strange breed. Just look at Maiden fanaticals, for one: even amongst rockers they're a species apart!

I'm surprised to see Taylor Swift's been around for aeons and has so many albums, as being more of a Classic FM, 6 Music and Old School Rock lover she's never really come to my notice before. So I had a quick Google, because just like everyone else I was curious as to what all the fuss was about.

It's fair to say from the couple of songs I briefly listened to that she's not my cup of tea. What I was really surprised to read was that her Eras tour is the highest grossing tour in music history. It surpasses Michael Jackson's 'Bad' tour, Floyd, The Stones, Madonna. That's enormous. For a solo female artist at that, it's nothing short of a phenomenal achievement.

My natural concert 'home' would always be more along the lines of a Floyd (if only!), Stones or metal gig. But Swift is hugely successful - if something of a one-woman environmental disaster - and makes a lot of people happy.

I say kudos to her.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/06/2024 14:54

Not a clue what the hype is about. I know a lot of young people and I've found nobody who is interested.

This tour has sold around £4.35m tickets so quite a lot of people are interested, obviously.

Soukmyfalafel · 26/06/2024 15:10

I really don't get the love for her. She seems very bland to me, but each to their own I say. I wouldn't want to deprive people of their fun just because i don't get it.
