People going to multiple Eras dates are selfish

I'm not a Swiftie but DD is a fan and I signed up for the waiting list last year. No code, everything sold out so I assumed I wasn't going to get tickets. Yesterday, I got an email from Ticketmaster with a code for Wembley this weekend and managed to get 4 tickets. DD and friends are delighted.

Other friends are still desperately hoping for tickets, either this weekend or in August. I've seen lots of posts on MN and elsewhere by people in the same boat. Then I've seen other posters saying they, or someone they know, have been/are going multiple times. I just don't understand this mentality. You've seen it once, you know there are thousands of people hoping for that opportunity and not everyone will be able to go because there aren't enough tickets for everyone who wants one. Why take more than your fair share?

YABU - them's the breaks.
YANBU - it's selfish.

Ok, a better comparison would be sitting down to Sunday lunch at the ILs. ExBIL promptly piled 11 of the 12 available Yorkshire puddings onto his plate, leaving 1 to go between everyone else at the table. Nobody died for lack of a Yorkshire pudding, but BIL was still incredibly selfish.

No it’s not anything like that either 🤣🤣…. iLs have kindly made everyone a lovely roast ….to take more than your fair share would be rude and greedy…..buying these tickets is a transaction….fastest finger first….some you win some you don’t….take it you’ve never tried for Glastonbury Tickets OP!!

That is once again a terrible - yet strangely detailed lol - nothinglikeit example. You didn't get them, it's sad and unfortunate but that's not other fans fault either

Edited

I did get tickets. Many other people didn't because there are a finite amount and not enough for everyone who wants one. If some people take second and third helpings then even fewer people will get firsts.

Surely you should have got to the Yorkshire puddings quicker?

Or the host should have shared them out equally. Who eats 11 Yorkshire puddings?

Oh amazing! You could give up yours if you feel that bad?

They are paying for it because they were in the queue first. Not 'getting' them out of nowhere

I learned fast. It didn't happen again 😁

Is this the only tour she’s ever doing or a farewell tour?

No. She loves touring and I have no doubt she will be in Europe again in a few years. But this is, I think, her retiring her earlier Eras for touring and saying goodbye to performing them live. Up until this tour even on Red, 1989, and Reputation tours she would perform Love Story for example. You would hear the big hits even if they were albums ago. I think this will be her drawing a line under it. So those of us who have been fans since the early days can see it as the last chance for those songs.

What about people who have season tickets at Premier League clubs? They go every week and nobody else gets a chance.

That's not the same, it's a different match everytime 😂

I can't understand why you would watch it twice.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/06/2024 20:42

If it were any concern of the artist/management/finance people (and it isn't, the money made is the only concern), there would be something set up where people could only buy one set of tickets for a particular leg of a tour. It wouldn't be that hard in technological terms.

But tickets being difficult to get hold of makes them all the more desirable and is good advertising hype + a way to justify hiking the prices even more, thus increasing the profitability of the tour, especially when specific merch is added into the mix.

It's simple economics.

See also: people dragging along their (male) partners who couldn't give a toss
Americans flying over when they had multiple chances to see the tour in their own country

You have no idea why those people wanted their male partners with them, though. I ‘dragged’ my DH along to see her in Edinburgh because I’m autistic and I feel most comfortable at events when he’s there. I also have mobility issues and I got an accessible ticket, which comes with a free companion ticket so he didn’t even pay for his seat.

I don’t have many friends, I’m not close with my family, and there’s no way I could have gone alone. My options were take DH (who ended up having a whale of time!) or not go at all.

Also, I understand why Americans would travel over here. Some of the tickets in the US were selling for $3000 per person, so it makes sense to buy a ticket for a UK date and make a holiday of it.

LizzieBennett73 · 21/06/2024 20:44

Genuine fans don't bother me. It's those who get tickets and put them on Viagogo for £4k each that piss me off.

Lentilweaver · 21/06/2024 20:45

Curious segue: I don't want to go and neither does DD, but how much are people paying generally? I have seen all prices and various scams too.

I find the "Eras" thing so pretentious when her career is 10 years old or so?

When you've got the longevity of Cher, madonna, Elton, kylie - then we can talk Eras.

TinkerTiger · 21/06/2024 20:46

@SummaLuvin I stand corrected, it was SE Asia.

It's nearer 20 years

ApolloandDaphne · 21/06/2024 20:48

My DD is going twice. She went once in Edinburgh for the first night of the tour as we are Scottish and she wanted to be here for it with her Scottish friends. She is also going in London as she lives there and is going with different friends. Fair dues to her. She earns her own money and can buy two tickets if she wants to.

She was 16 when she released her first album and she’s now 34.

I'd rather do that than go to a TS concert!! Unless 'maybe' if it's a limo to the door, hospitality 'box' and brilliant seating!! Then mayyyybe.

TheWoofers · 21/06/2024 20:53

I’ve seen her once on this tour already and I’m going twice more with different people. I’m not even a huge fan. If people think it’s selfish, that’s ok.

Face value tickets for Liverpool were up to £172.
VIP packages (ticket + naff merch box + early entry to standing area if applicable) up to £660.
Secondhand anything goes, as FOMO increases so does the price. When tickets were first on sale those £660 tickets stuck around for ages, they would be snapped up now.

5431go · 21/06/2024 20:55

Keen to know who can afford this? What job do you do ?

EC22 · 21/06/2024 20:56

If I could have afforded it I’d have gone more than once.
My daughter went to see her the 3 Edinburgh dates, she hadn’t came to Scotland in a decade, who knows when she will be back. She bought the midnights album 3 times for the codes, she is a HUGE fan.

Pibrea · 21/06/2024 20:56

I’m with you, I know a woman in her 30s who’s been twice with the same group of friends. They did the whole friendship bracelet thing as well, bit weird in my opinion.
