People going to multiple Eras dates are selfish

I'm not a Swiftie but DD is a fan and I signed up for the waiting list last year. No code, everything sold out so I assumed I wasn't going to get tickets. Yesterday, I got an email from Ticketmaster with a code for Wembley this weekend and managed to get 4 tickets. DD and friends are delighted.

Other friends are still desperately hoping for tickets, either this weekend or in August. I've seen lots of posts on MN and elsewhere by people in the same boat. Then I've seen other posters saying they, or someone they know, have been/are going multiple times. I just don't understand this mentality. You've seen it once, you know there are thousands of people hoping for that opportunity and not everyone will be able to go because there aren't enough tickets for everyone who wants one. Why take more than your fair share?

YABU - them's the breaks.
YANBU - it's selfish.

Labour should nationalise Taylor Swift. Starmer is missing a trick.

Singapore did something similar 😂

Well there’s definitely no end to the mercenary, neo-liberalist ‘me, me, me’ attitude. A selfish society is no society at all.

Mercenary to go to a concert is quite the stretch

Hateam · 21/06/2024 20:10

If I wanted to see her more than once and I could get tickets I'd go. Don't really care what others would think of me. It's a concert not a seat on plane out of a war zone.

It was a response to the post before, not the concert. Just matching hyperbole with hyperbole.

I’d pay to not have to go.

Same here. Can’t stand her music. Admire her for the amount of work she clearly puts in but I’d rather poke my eyes out with a fork than go to one of her gigs. Each to their own.

Everysand · 21/06/2024 20:11

A lot of fans go to lots of the gigs when their favourite tours, why should it be different for TS.

TinkerTiger · 21/06/2024 20:12

ProjectEdensGate · 21/06/2024 19:57

Oh give over.

Selfish is letting everyone pre order your new album to "get the code to buy concert tickets". When it really does fuck all. AND then releasing three versions of the same album with more songs on it so the album everyone preordered is obsolete before it even arrives at their house.

Then 18 months later pulling a similar stunt by surprise announcing a second part to an album that everyone bought TWO hours ago.

And depriving her Asian fans from being able to see her buy taking 3M per show for 6 shows in Singapore, in return for ONLY performing in Singapore so that they could take full benefit of the tourism it would bring

FYI Japan is in Asia and she did 3(?) dates there. Though I heard it was very difficult to get tickets if you are not a Japanese national due to needing to provide a local phone number and/or address.

greencartbluecart · 21/06/2024 20:16

Many artists do multiple album versions
Many do many more versions
Heaven forbid an artist tries to make money out of their career

TheLizardQueen · 21/06/2024 20:16

Get over yourself. The tickets were a lottery. I managed to get tickets for 2 nights. My daughter and I are Swifties so we went for 2 nights. It’s the luck of the draw and we had a great time both nights. By only going for one night doesn’t mean that someone else would get taken off the waitlist. It took us both around 8 hours to secure both tickets. Why wouldn’t we? Not our fault other people didn’t get codes!

TheLizardQueen · 21/06/2024 20:19

LighthouseCat · 21/06/2024 20:00

It is unquestionably selfish.

Why? Why is it my fault that I got tickets for 2 nights by putting the work in to get the tickets? I paid for them. I would have gone 3 nights or more if I could have. Why not?

BlowDryRat · 21/06/2024 19:41

Yes, they clearly can but I don't think it's particularly nice that they do. It's like the weeks before lockdown when some people were running round the supermarket panic-buying 10 multipacks of loo roll.

I don’t think it’s anything like this🙄

Hillary17 · 21/06/2024 20:22

I’m going twice and honestly do not feel bad at all. People had so many chances - even a no buy option with the midnights pre-order codes! The system meant people could request codes for all over Europe, not just the city closest to you so I travelled to a European date. Granted I spent a fortune so it’s no accessible to everyone but met lots of people who had done the same. I made a full trip out of it and think I paid my fair share into the local economy! Then checked Ticketmaster as I’d also gotten a code for Wembley and managed to quite easily. Not the best seats but why would I not go again when the option is there for me…

Runnerinthenight · 21/06/2024 20:22

If it was the case that the extra tickets would go to a genuine fan who has desperately tried to get them, that would be one thing, but who's to say they wouldn't end up in the hands of someone who was already going a couple of times? These things aren't fair. Life isn't fair!

If all those fans who'd been already thought, "Actually, I've had a turn, I'll leave those tix for someone still waiting," then it wouldn't be a risk, would it? Being selfish because you're worried about someone else being as selfish as you is part of the problem.

rupsky · 21/06/2024 20:25

If you're a fan who signed up for the mid nights pre sale, no purchases necessary then you got access to the official pre sale. You could buy 4 tickets. Say 2 from Edinburgh then 2 for London. Or one for each show. Fair or not it was really well done for the kinda more... invested fan? Fan fan. Y'know?

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 21/06/2024 20:25

I'd be a hypocrite if I said they were selfish as in 1990 I went to see my favourite artist 3 times in 3 different cities in a week and got the tickets cheaper due to being a fan club member. The memories last a lifetime, each show brings something different.

Isn't the disappointment of missing out just part of life. She's not my cup of tea but she's certainly got some good press tonight on nw news due to her food bank donations.

Or just don't blame other people for getting something you want? It's not to spite you

Ok, a better comparison would be sitting down to Sunday lunch at the ILs. ExBIL promptly piled 11 of the 12 available Yorkshire puddings onto his plate, leaving 1 to go between everyone else at the table. Nobody died for lack of a Yorkshire pudding, but BIL was still incredibly selfish.

That is once again a terrible - yet strangely detailed lol - nothinglikeit example. You didn't get them, it's sad and unfortunate but that's not other fans fault either

mathanxiety · 21/06/2024 20:36

YABU.

She's not providing a public service.

When it comes to concert tickets, you snooze, you lose.

Surely you should have got to the Yorkshire puddings quicker?
