People going to multiple Eras dates are selfish

I'm not a Swiftie but DD is a fan and I signed up for the waiting list last year. No code, everything sold out so I assumed I wasn't going to get tickets. Yesterday, I got an email from Ticketmaster with a code for Wembley this weekend and managed to get 4 tickets. DD and friends are delighted.

Other friends are still desperately hoping for tickets, either this weekend or in August. I've seen lots of posts on MN and elsewhere by people in the same boat. Then I've seen other posters saying they, or someone they know, have been/are going multiple times. I just don't understand this mentality. You've seen it once, you know there are thousands of people hoping for that opportunity and not everyone will be able to go because there aren't enough tickets for everyone who wants one. Why take more than your fair share?

YABU - them's the breaks.
YANBU - it's selfish.

YABU.

Get a grip, OP. It’s only a bloody pop concert, FFS. It’s not like some people are taking more than what you deem to be their ‘fair’ share of a life-saving medication. Try to find something which actually matters to worry about.

SheIsBack · 21/06/2024 21:22

Having seen the ‘stress’ my niece went through, if you managed to tolerate the stress of the pre-buying build-up, the wait in the ticketmaster waiting room, type in the code, followed the panic of trying to add tickets to your cart and then jab in your credit card details without making a mistake and check out, you have earned those tickets ;-)

@Ariel45 😘

An exchange in good spirits I hope Grin

It's nothing new. I went to see the Osmonds in the 70s. They were doing an early and late concert on the day I saw them. The friend I went with had tickets for both performances. Superfans have always done this.

Mind you I think the Osmonds tickets were a bit cheaper!😁

thedendrochronologist · 21/06/2024 21:35

I think what's unfair is how bloody complicated it is to get tickets!

I got some through the LFC supported club that friends DH is in.

It's absolutely insanely complicated
Even then we paid £150 for the tickets.

I don't even know how people are getting them on the day.

I did get a code for the general release but I have no idea how that works

My DD bought tickets when they were released and so did her friend. She therefore went to see TS twice, as did her friend because they agreed that if they got tickets they would let each other have one. They were both lucky enough to be successful. Should she take someone else just because you think they shouldn’t go twice? It’s not selfish she’s saved up and bought tickets and had the same opportunity as everyone else. I take it that if your friend manages to get tickets and there was an opportunity for your DD to go again you would decline.

Them's the breaks. It's not that big of a deal.

I find the "Eras" thing so pretentious when her career is 10 years old or so?

When you've got the longevity of Cher, madonna, Elton, kylie - then we can talk Eras.

Try almost 20 years and she’s had more success than any of these artists you have mentioned.

I hear everyone saying “if they can afford it?” Genuinely interested what kind of jobs allow people to spend 1000’s on concert tickets.

In my household we are a Banker and a Doctor and could not afford to spend this amount of tickets.

But you probably spend your money on different things that others think how do you afford it as it's probably not something they prioritise. I have spent a lot on tickets in the past, not TS I will add as it's not really my choice of music but I have seen other artists several times on the same tour

Createausername1970 · 21/06/2024 22:01

I have seen my favourite artist multiple times, each time they tour. A friend and I had some great road trips, driving to each town, meeting other fans in the hotel bars, staying in some places that turned out to be dives, eating biscuits in bed at 2 a.m. and checking for fleas!! I do not regret any of it.

OonaStubbs · 21/06/2024 21:00

Why would anyone want to go more than once? It'll be the same show every night.

It’s not though, her and Paramore’s surprise songs are different every night. I’ve followed bands throughout the years and been to multiple concerts because why not!? Also seen Taylor twice in Edinburgh just because I wanted to!

rupsky · 22/06/2024 00:43

Hahah obviously! ☺️ @Ariel45

It’s about priorities. this was our mini break this year as 3 out of 4 of the family are huge fans.

Same DD and her best friend both got pre order codes. First day of sale DD best friend got 4 tickets so DD has one for August Wembley (plus best friend her mum and another friend). Next day I got 4 tickets for today so I am going DD best friend and a different friend.
Both love Taylor Swift, both want to go together and can’t imagine one going more than the other. Both us mums want to experience it with them plus give someone else a chance to go.

there will never be enough tickets for everyone who wants to go, people will always buy expensive tickets I was never going to stop DD and her best friend doing this together - they got the code bought the albums themselves and saved some money towards the tickets

SpringerFall · 22/06/2024 07:14

The sun will still get up tomorrow sure I want something I don't get I feel disappointed but life goes on, to some its an obsession I think people need to calm down

Waitingfordoggo · 22/06/2024 07:18

What I find selfish is Swift’s carbon footprint as she is said to be one of the worst offenders in terms of private jet use. It’s a shame because apart from that she seems like a good role model. Unrestrained use of private jets is undoubtedly very selfish.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/06/2024 07:19

Accidentally voted YABU and now I can't seem to change it, but I agree.

I'm not a Swiftie and have no skin in this game but yeah, people should go once and then let others have a chance.

imip · 22/06/2024 07:20

Dd is going twice. We went last night and she is going again tonight. She organised all the presale codes. She did it all while at home under 24/7 supervision from us with anorexia and suicidal ideation. I am sure knowing TS story of anorexia gave her a really good vision of how she could truly beat anorexia (I am not sure she will ever beat it but she is at school and engaging with the world around her). She is autistic, TS would definitely be her special interest.

it feels very difficult to begrudge her seeing her twice!

She paid 2.5 times more than legally required to have her carbon emissions for this tour offset.

My daughter is 16, she earns about £400 a month in her part time job. She saves half and then the rest basically goes on concert tickets - that's her 'thing' and what she likes doing. Shes doesn't go out buying clothes or crap all the time.

She is seeing Taylor 3 times - twice solo of which one was paid for her as a Xmas present and she bought the other. Then once with her sister and me through hospitality that I paid for. So she has only actually used 2 of her 4 'allowed' tickets through general sale.

KimberleyClark · 22/06/2024 07:31

It’s every man for himself these days.

Good- so she should. Might be better not to produce so much CO2 in the first place.
