I dont know if I'm being silly but I have tried everything to get tickets, live close to london and willing to travel. Didn't even get on the wait list... Just heartbreaking as my daughter literally learnt to play the guitar (self taught) has every album and the infamous cardigan, t shirts ets. Just gutted as all we ever listen to in the blooming car is TS. It would have been awesome lifetime memories /core memory. Sad.

I don’t get it, honestly. Her version of Macavity from Cats came on earlier and I thought she didn’t sound great and wondered what all the fuss was about.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 21/06/2024 20:52

Have you tried the venue direct. That’s usually worth a punt.

So, do you never go to concerts because you don't know the artists personally? What about buying a painting? Should I not covet a Lucian Freud because I didn't know him personally? I don't get your reasoning at all.

Edited

They're not comparable. You can appreciate a painting forever.

A really good concert can be a once in a lifetime thing, though. I don't think something has to be permanent to be valuable. I don't understand why you think you need to know a musician to like their music or want to go to a concert by them.

needsomewarmsunshine · 21/06/2024 20:56

MsLuxLisbon · 21/06/2024 20:31

Oh no, they won't. I don't think you appreciate how hardcore Swifties are. It isn't just young girls who are her fans, it's their mothers as well. Your toy analogy is off because the parents who bought the toys weren't interested in the toys themselves, whereas these parents are often diehard fans as well. Her music isn't really my thing, but I do respect just what a LONG career Taylor has had. She is only in her mid thirties but she has an immense and obsessive fanbase and has had for a long time. She isn't some hot new thing, she has serious longevity.

Actually, I was referring to the girls moving onto the next big thing not their mothers.

Possibly, although I think it is more likely that they will continue to love Taylor and play her music to their daughters (or sons!) in turn. I don't really understand it, but Taylor does seem to inspire a devotion that most artists can only dream of.

Perhaps. I think this is the point where we agree to disagree. Concerts such as a Taylor Swift concert are a total waste of time and money.

To you, they are. To her fans, they are not. That would be like me saying that season tickets to football are a waste of money. They would be for me, because I'm not interested in football. However, to football fans, they are worth every penny. As the OP and her family are TS fans, it is silly to say that going to her concert is a 'waste of money'.

On that note surely the people who go more than once are just the same as season ticket football fans

Exactly (although it is arguably more expensive!) I don't understand all the pearl clutching. Let people enjoy things, life has enough crap in it what with us all being screwed six ways to Sunday by this useless government and lectured about our carbon footprint by billionaires and royalty.

SD1978 · 21/06/2024 21:59

@StripedTomatoes..... it's a phrase from inside out. Didn't exist before Pixar amd Walt Disney created the term........🤣

JustSaltPlease · 21/06/2024 22:01

I had 2 tickets for Cardiff when they first came out. Waited a whole year. My toddlers birthday party was 3 days before the gig and he came down with a sickness bug and wiped us all out so had to sell them.

The person who bought thrm over fb insisted on facetiming me and it was painful seeing how excited she was.

So yeah, we missed out to be there for our poorly son. Because at the end of the day, family is more important.

However, I've drop kicked him to his aunties for the weekend whilst we spend a boozy weekend in torquay to console us 🤣

Stopandlook · 21/06/2024 22:09

Diehard fans would have had the midnights code and we all did get tickets though? I haven’t heard of anyone with a midnights code that didn’t get them.
That was us - bought Midnights album October 2022 before the tour was announced 🤷‍♀️

Gosh this is all a bit much. I don't believe she's suddenly got this many fans. Last time she was on tour she was so unpopular her PR were handing out tickets to companies in London. I took DD to Wembley to see her for free and got amazing seats. A lot of the stadium was still empty!

I am perfectly ‘privileged’. Nothing to do with privilege or class. Everything to do with not jumping on an over hyped wagon

But who gets to decide she is overhyped? What is the correct level of hype? Please spell it out.

JulianFawcettMP · 21/06/2024 23:21

Also meant to say I am ambivalent and certainly not a big fan but I dislike snide judgements

Sankhomumof3 · 21/06/2024 23:34

Yes like pp said, Taylor Swift is a musician. She writes her own music and songs. Plays instruments and is to be honest a really good role model for kids. It's not just tweens that are fans, a lot of older musicians appreciate her work. And it is in fact somthing to distract us from the daily grind of working 2 jobs. Its nice to have the odd fun thing to look forward to. I'm definitely working class, and work my butt off doing 12.5 hour lone working night and day shifts in the nhs. So I guess it was just somthing nice I wanted to experience with my kids (who are used to hearing no) as we have to save for treats. My daughter plays instruments (self taught) because she was inspired by swift, so its obviously somthing that would be meaningful for her. Plus, I too enjoy the vibe of the music. Its frivolus, fun, relatable. I dont think its a bad thing to want to have fun experiences with your kids.

Lol it honestly did! I know it's hard to believe given how insane this tour has been but she was really not that popular on her last tour. Obviously very well known but she was getting cancelled for something or other. It was years ago now, DD was 9 and she's now 15 but if you Google it I'm sure something will come up! Other posters have said they got the same. A lot of tickets got given to schools and PR companies.

Of course it isn't! This site is full of people who pretend to be so above it all, and also to think that nobody is ever allowed to want anything frivolous because there is suffering in the world/if you were really poor you wouldn't care about this. It is very boring. I hope you get your tickets!

What is this "core memory" bollocks that everyone is trotting out with regard to the tour?

It's like people who went to a Michael Jackson concert would remember it forever. Its somthing that they'll always be glad they experienced. I wish I could have gone, but was too young. It is just an experience thst stays with you. We all have different ways of saying that, its just short way for explaining all that.

Take them to a different gig - go and see lots of live music with different artists who aren’t charging £800 a ticket. Take them to festivals with tons of artists and where it’s an experience they will remember!

Yes, this is a good idea. Do more local stuff. Thanks.

we need a separate Taylor Swift section at this rate!!!

Hugs. Was starting to question myself for a minute lol xxx

Thank you for the update. Off work now so will check it out xxx
Apologies for the delay in responding, can't have phone on me at work.
