To report my neighbour for indecent exposure in his garden?

On regular occasions when I look out of my bedroom window at the back of my house, I have seen the elderly neighbour opposite standing fully naked in his back garden. Not only this but he is touching himself, and stands right by his back door clearly wanting people to see. It's absolutely disgusting, and bothering me quite a bit, especially since I have young children.

I have looked into indecent exposure but this seems to need to be in a public place, not sure whether since this is his own garden whether that would count?

Does anyone know if I can report this and whether anything is likely to be done about it?

Just following up on some of the questions asked. He is not doing it in somewhere that could be considered 'private' in his garden. The houses in my area are small and while I'm saying garden I actually mean yard. Everyone's yards are in full view of each other.

The police also confirmed no dementia and that he seemed of sound mind. They said that he admitted to doing it, and seemed very remorseful and even started crying.

My understanding was that he has been given a warning, and if it happens again he will be charged. However they also said that CID may decide to charge on this occasion but it's unlikely. They actually said to call 999 if it happens again.

Also wanted to add that the police did not advise to film it.

They said that he admitted to doing it, and seemed very remorseful and even started crying The sort of man who does this is not the sort of man who is going to feel any genuine remorse. He’s either faking it to convince the police that he’s a harmless and lonely old man who has learned his lesson and no further action needs to be taken, or he’s shitting himself about what will happen to him if it goes to court and whether he is going to have to worry about anyone’s husband coming to string him up.

I hope he feels sick with fear every time there’s a knock at the door and can’t sleep with worry. And I hope it leaves him too frightened to even think about opening his back door. Vile creature.

“If you are that bothered …”

You wouldn’t be bothered about a stark naked neighbour wanking in full view? Blimey.

He may have.

But if you look at the numbers of dementia sufferers and compare it to the number of men who regularly harass women and girls, he’s statistically more likely to be a disgusting creep who is enjoying knowing that women are having to double check he’s not out there wanking before letting their DC walk past the window or play in their own gardens.

Time will tell I suppose. If he stops doing it now that the police have been round, I suspect that dementia is not the issue here.

I was going to say something similar. I think it is much more likely he is a pervert who gets off on publicly masturbating. If dementia then it is sad but no less revolting and I suspect the police would have picked up on it when they talked to him.

I had foster children who told me that a young female student living directly across the road was regularly stripping off at her window and dancing in the window. I was a bit disbelieving at first until I saw it myself, she was also looking directly over at the foster child's window as she was dancing. I spoke to the police who took it very seriously and paid her a visit. They gave me some follow up to say she had been very apologetic and didn't know why she was doing it but would stop. It did stop but I've always wondered why she did it, very attractive 18/ 19 year old young woman. The police did say that if she did it again they would attempt to charge her but I don't know what with

Easily could have been me. I used to have a full-length mirror hanging right beside the window that wouldn't be obvious to anyone on the outside.
I'd change into all sorts of glad-rags and skimpies when getting ready for a night out (or night in with a boyfriend) and if the music was on, I'd do it justice too 😁

MUCH more likely that it was this sort of typical teen behaviour than someone's wet dream of a hot student-turned nymphomaniac flasher (wanton eye-contact including).

No one called the cops on me though - were probably worried of going to jail for voyerism!

Well done. I'm glad he's been reported and maybe now he'll get it into his thick, creepy, selfish head that no, his neighbours are not interested in his revolting behaviour, nor are they there to service his vile need to exhibit himself and yes, it's actually a crime and he is a weirdo loser sex pest.

I've wound myself up now!

I'm so happy you did this though and the police were so onto it.

"If you are that bothered"??? In what world are women supposed to be not "that bothered" about a naked man deliberately masturbating in their full view? An accidental exposure to neighbours while naked inside your house is nothing like what is happening here.

There are some of these on MN lately. It's usually transparent.
