If you knew the Greens would win in your seat you'd vote for them

In other words, people don't vote Green mainly because they think they have no chance.

Their manifesto on Education seems to correspond with a lot of views on mumsnet, aibu?

So depressing that women’s rights are so easily waved away by many. No I will not vote for any party that hates women.

So which party does that leave? Honestly?

I would to keep our local Tory out. But wouldn't want a Green government just enough MP's to keep the rest on their toes

ChaToilLeam · 19/06/2024 12:25

As they currently stand I would not vote for them. Perhaps they need to get back to their remit of focusing on environmental issues instead of insisting that men can be women despite all common sense contradicting this.

No. Have you met the Scottish Greens? They were in Govt here in Scotland. It did not go well.

God they are horrendous, aren't they?

YABU because they cannot define what a woman is, and have been overrun by the TRAs.

I'd vote for them otherwise but I just can't vote for a Party which puts men's rights above women's safety.

Gettingbysomehow · 19/06/2024 12:26

I would never vote for them, they messed up Brighton when I lived near there. In fact I never went to Brighton ever because it was impossible to get in or out of and car parking cost £15 plus. Rubbish everywhere, homeless people living in tents everywhere you went, everything unaffordable.

SlothOnARope · 19/06/2024 12:26

Abouttimeforanamechange · 19/06/2024 12:01

.....my local candidate, who is really excellent on local issues and that is what matters to me.

General elections aren't about local issues. The elected government needs to have policies on national and international affairs. What are the Green party's policies on the Middle East or aid for Ukraine or the Commonwealth?

I disagree. Having a local MP who gives a shit, is important.

Greens want an immediate ceasefire and have clearly come out and said so.

Thag would be a no then.

That

Exactly like my home town destroyed and bled dry by (mainly) Labour. It is now a fully-fledged crime ridden shithole I can't afford to move out of.

No CocoapuffPuff, I am between a rock and a hard place. You can't have it all and I don't want to not vote, so I have to pick my policies and decide what's most important. With 3DC, for me, that's education.

Where I am, the Labour party is atrocious and the corruption is just eyewatering.

In Scotland, Robin Harper - longstanding Green politician - has defected from the greens to Labour. If the Greens had spent as much time in Scotland focussing on the environment as they did fighting to get men into safe spaces then maybe I'd know more about their environmental policies. Instead, I know a serial rapist nearly ended up in a female prison and the greens are totally OK with that. I feel nothing but contempt for them.

TheShellBeach · 19/06/2024 12:36

SlothOnARope · 19/06/2024 12:03

As mentioned I don't agree with any party in full, absolutely not.

It's just a shame that a good local Green candidate is going to miss out because the rest of her party is challenged in the sanity department.

But you shouldn't be voting for candidates who are only good in their own local areas.
That's what local councillors are for.

Candidates for governing the country need to demonstrate acceptable international policies.

Abitorangelooking · 19/06/2024 12:37

No in Scotland so they've had a lot of influence but its been wasted on various bandwagons. Very disappointed tbh

Motomum23 · 19/06/2024 12:40

No I wouldn't vote greens

TheShellBeach · 19/06/2024 12:41

I've been thinking a bit more about this and I can safely say that there isn't one Party who I can vote for.

It's pathetic.

SlothOnARope · 19/06/2024 12:41

I'm not in Scotland, obviously. Scottish Greens sound horrendous, rather like Labour round my way, but for different reasons.

God this is depressing. Well, I will still protest-vote for my Green candidate and join an electoral reform movement instead of a party.

Exactly this ^

Actually I've just joined the Alba Party.

They haven't got a candidate in my constituency but I like their policies.

Fragglerock75 · 19/06/2024 12:43

Nope. Used to be a member, now wouldn’t touch them with a bargepole.

SilverElf · 19/06/2024 12:44

i’ll happily vote green in local elections - good, hard-working local politicians in my experience. Nationally though? No way, have you seen the way they treat women? And anyone who complains gets thrown out of the party……(bit of personal experience there!)

ACynicalDad · 19/06/2024 12:47

I'd never vote green, I'd like to see us look after the environment better, but that doesn't need to be packaged with loony left economic policy.

SlothOnARope · 19/06/2024 12:48

TheShellBeach · 19/06/2024 12:36

Our local council is a mini Mafia. The councillors serve only themselves and everyone hates them. If your local council is as corrupt and damaging as mine, then you need a good MP to speak up.

Also the Green does have extremely good international policies, without platforming.

YouJustDoYou · 19/06/2024 12:49

I saw what they did to Brighton, so, no.

WhereAreWeNow · 19/06/2024 12:52

I really would consider it if they weren't so batshit crazy on sex and gender. Shame because they have a lot of good policies.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 19/06/2024 12:55

crackofdoom · 19/06/2024 11:51

I don't see that as being wildly unachievable. On a windy day wind's share of the total energy generation mix can easily reach the high 60s percent as it is.

If our energy only comes to 60% on a windy day, how is it going to get to 70% all the time? We need to be able to store excess electricity, which will require vast quantities of lithium for the batteries for a start. We need nuclear. Their environmental policies are batshit and their gender policies and treatment of gender critical people in the party make it impossible for me to vote for them, even as a protest, which I used to do often. It's easy to say 'disband ofsted and ' improve education' when you have no chance of getting into power. Does ' improving education' include basic biology?
