Is this colder than most ‘junes’? So miserable

No money to go abroad. No money to put heating on. Struggling to afford indoor activities for dd and just wanted some time outdoors in the sun. It feels like this is the coldest June I can remember? I also don’t get how this fits with global warming… though I expect I am missing how that works? Just so fed up of being cold, for literally nearly a year now!

Warmest spring on record, lovely. What are you talking about?

Probably because of the temps overnight but it's also done nothing but rain solidly
I sat in the garden for 2 days which was bliss and the rest of the time it was either raining or blowing

Collidascope · 07/06/2024 09:45

It was a shit "summer" last year

Yes, that's what's bothering me too. We got the briefest of summers last year and it looks like this one is heading the same way.

And I do go outside for walks; I've got dogs so have no choice, but I would like to have a few months of the year where I don't have to wear my waterproofs or thermals because there's a horrible, biting wind or drizzle. Ita horrible going into autumn when you haven't had a proper summer.

Outliers · 07/06/2024 09:52

The Met Office will still say it was the hottest June on record

It does seem unusually cold, luckily the weather has been fairly fine where we live in Northants so washing has all dried and we have been able to go out and its been quite nice, just had to wear a coat, cardigan or hoodie and shoes/trainers rather than sandals, probably been between 16C and 20C in the day.

MiddleAgedDread · 07/06/2024 10:00

I was going through photos on my phone from previous years and we've definitely not had as much warm sunshine this year. It's windy here which is making it feel even colder.

DaytripperShoes · 07/06/2024 10:02

Yes we are South coast but have only been able to dry washing outside a handful of days so far this year. Just talked to a house painter who says he is 2 months behind in work. So it is worse. And also fuck off to put a jumper on that is exactly the point!

Sharptonguedwoman · 07/06/2024 10:17

Edenmum2 · 07/06/2024 08:46

It's been perfectly sunny if a bit cooler. Put a jumper on and get outside, you'll feel much better

Never thought of that. Silly me.

Wonderfulstuff · 07/06/2024 10:25

I think the average has been in the 20s so statistically normal. But I think as it has been so wet that everywhere just feels damp. If we could just have a few more dry days it would feel a lot better.

garlictwist · 07/06/2024 10:26

I just can't understand the news that it's allegedly been a warm spring. Other than the odd day or two, I really don't feel like I've seen the sun here in Yorkshire.

I have my winter coat back on this week. I have just been googling flights to Italy and wondering if I can afford to go next weekend and just work from there as I can't take much more of the gloom. Turns out I can't afford it so hey ho.

It's only the 7th. Confused

DataPup · 07/06/2024 10:29

Greatly simplified of course but let's say in a nice spring it's 18 in the day but frost overnight i.e. 0 and for simple maths say it averages out to 9 degrees.

This year has been more like 8 overnight, 12 in the day averaging out to 10 degrees hence 'warmer'

Outliers · 07/06/2024 09:52

That's lovely news, but how do they know? Confused I don't think they can accurately predict the weather for more than 3-4 days ahead. They have got it wrong SO many times this past 2-3 years. Always rains when they say it won't, doesn't rain when they say it will. It's so hard to plan anything!

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 07/06/2024 10:33

I do agree it has been 'meh' so far this month, but as I said, it's only the 7th. There are 23 days left in this month!

I'm not gonna lie, a few days ago I had the heating on. In JUNE. Fecking JUNE!

I had gone to post a letter in the postbox 3-4 minutes walk away and got caught in a brisk and sharp shower, and I was FREEEZING! Heating went on. Clicked in at 18C. I turned it off after 10-15 minutes.

freakyoldhermit · 07/06/2024 10:34

yeah I am still having the heating on for a few hours a day, its set at 16c and comes on

alittlehopeisadangerousthing · 07/06/2024 10:36

I'm miserable too. It's really cold for June. I need sun!

Springwatch123 · 07/06/2024 10:39

Last year , saw Tony Hadley in Maidstone (outside) during the first weekend in June. It was flippin freezing, much colder than this June.

Yep. My bingo card is ready for this year to be the "worst drought ever". They think we have short memories.

FuzzyPuffling · 07/06/2024 10:47

willowtolive · 07/06/2024 09:41

Really ? Very different to Cornwall we've had a couple of paddling pool days not many and my garden is a sun trap

Yes, my friends in Cornwall say it's been a bit grim with them, whereas we've been lucky enough to have wall to wall blue skies.

But it hasn't. We haven't hit 20 degrees here this month so far. We had 19 on Sunday, but that was it.

Laiste · 07/06/2024 10:49

It's the flipping wind.

I hate the wind and when it's a cold one it ruins everything. It's sunny here today (south midlands) but that wind is too nippy to be in a vest top ect.

It was nice on Sunday. Hot even. One effing day. wow. Just made it feel worse that the day after was cold windy drizzle here.

I'm PRAYING for the week we go away to be sunny. UK south coast July. One week - pleeeeeeese weather gods 🙏🙏It was crappy last year.

I was re-watching Sexy Beast a couple of nights ago. It always reinforces my dream to move to the Costa Del Anywhere and just get leathery in my old age in the sun - but right now i really really want to make it a reality.

Proudofitbabe · 07/06/2024 10:50

Yes it's been absolutely shit. We had a beautiful first half of June last year but other than that last year was absolutely shit too. Feels like it hasn't stopped raining since winter 2022!

It was sunny at 7 this morning, so I had hope! Now it's back to the default cold and windy 🙄

Blubbled · 07/06/2024 10:51

Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine · 07/06/2024 07:55

Tell me you're not in the n.e. without saying you're not in the n.e.

7c this morning. Even when it's been sunny with wind has been Baltic.

I'm in SW Ireland and it's the wind chill that's annoying me the most here too! It's been a horrible year in terms of weather, even by Irish standards- grey, wet, cold! I've had to light a fire in the evenings even up to the night before last! There's a cold wind again this morning and even though it brightened up yesterday evening, it was still chilly!
On the few occasions the sun has shone and the temperature's risen, you can literally feel people's mood lifting but it hasn't lasted beyond a couple of days, at most! I'm fair sick of it at this stage!

Laiste · 07/06/2024 10:53

I'll admit i put the heating on for an hour this morning.

We're always up at 5 and i'm sick of having to still slope about in my big dressing gown! 🙄

South Wales admittedly! It has gone overcast now. 15c
