Is this colder than most ‘junes’? So miserable

No money to go abroad. No money to put heating on. Struggling to afford indoor activities for dd and just wanted some time outdoors in the sun. It feels like this is the coldest June I can remember? I also don’t get how this fits with global warming… though I expect I am missing how that works? Just so fed up of being cold, for literally nearly a year now!

it is strange, i have not put summer clothes on very much, a couple of times , on my phone memories come up from other years, on the beach in swimming costumes etc.,

This. Keep getting memories pop up of paddling pools and parasols. Eldest been choosing to wear his winter jacket in the mornings

Edenmum2 · 07/06/2024 08:46

It's been perfectly sunny if a bit cooler. Put a jumper on and get outside, you'll feel much better

VinnieVanDog · 07/06/2024 08:47

I agree OP I think the difference is it's been so prolonged cold and grey through winter, spring and now summer fgs. Usually there's spells of nice weather to break it up but this year's definitely different. I keep hearing it's El Nino

buffyslayer · 07/06/2024 08:38

I wish it was here!
Rain yesterday. Rain this morning
Heating kicked in both days

It rained overnight on Tuesday which was great as I didn't need to water the garden. Dry since.
V warm in the sunshine.
It's been about 19/20 most days.

buffyslayer · 07/06/2024 08:48

Yeah it hasn't been anywhere near that here

RampantIvy · 07/06/2024 08:48

On the rain threads someone has coined the term puddlesuit wankers for the "just wear waterproofs" brigade.

What shall we call the "just wear warmer clothes" posters?

For the record I am wearing warmer clothes, but I would love to wear my summer clothes now.

Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine · 07/06/2024 08:50

Jumper wankers are aware that we do wear them the rest of the bloody year and it's the watching the small window for shedding them slip by week by week which is depressing?

EarlyBird12345 · 07/06/2024 08:51

It’s raining here in west Scotland, the windchill makes it feel like 6c, the thermostat says 10c and I’ve got four layers on and the central heating, with a duvet on the settee for when I’m sitting. So yes, it’s cold for June.

Otoh, everything in the garden grew madly in May, particularly foliage, so that’s different too.

CocoPlum · 07/06/2024 08:52

CaptainHaddocksPychotherapist · 07/06/2024 07:37

Put yourselves in jumpers and coats and go for a walk/play in thee park

I fail to understand why people do not see walking as acceptable when it's cold

Maybe because walking in the rain might not be pleasant? I HATE it, and it's worse at this time of year because it's warm enough that wearing waterproof clothes is sweltering.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 07/06/2024 08:38

A bit of vigorous exercise for 30-40 minutes keeps me warm for much of the day

Not when your skin's been blasted by a cold wind for 1-2 hours. I've rapidly cooled off from running this week. I normally have the hot muscle/ cold skin effect in March, not June. I've been wearing long sleeves and full leggings as much as vests and capris. My shorts have been out once for parkrun which was short enough not to cloud over and go cold.

And sticking a fucking jumper on doesn't warm up a dripping nose that's cold from the cold air passing through it.

I can normally heat the house from the heat build up in the conservatory, but that's only become viable in the last few weeks (should be most days by April) and the sunny spells we've had have been too brief to really heat the house through. I had central heating on last week.

It was a shit "summer" last year, and I'm probably narky from vitamin D defficiency despite being an outdoorsy person.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 07/06/2024 08:53

I've definitely known warmer temperatures in June. I'm very much still in jumpers, its weird the sun if we see it is warm but the wind has a real icy blast to it. If the sun doesn't stop hiding next winter is going to be very long cold and expensive for me, I need the sun to warm up the stones so it keeps the house warmer going into winter

Caravaggiouch · 07/06/2024 08:54

Where are you? I haven’t worn a jacket since May. It’s been lush. A bit cooler in the evening but hardly cold.

South Yorkshire. Where is it warm?
We have temperatures between 11 and 13 degrees for the next few days. That's jumper and coat weather as we also have a very cold wind.

GreenShady · 07/06/2024 09:01

I am loving the cool nights and not dying of heat on the tube (although they're always hot) but just waiting for that nice week or two that probably isn't coming where I can wear my summer clothes 😂
Just want it to feel like summer for a bit!

Because shock horror people don’t want to be cold?

SherrieElmer · 07/06/2024 09:11

Warmest spring on record, lovely. What are you talking about?

ItsHardknocklife · 07/06/2024 09:20

In devon I've found it too hot for me and had the fan on most nights cos it's so muggy but I love the cold and hate any kind of heat!

A jumper? In summer? Wow, what comforting advice to those who are really missing summer weather.

It's winter where I live, and while our nights are colder our days are around the same temps as many posters are experiencing. If we were getting the same temps in summer I would be tearing my hair out, and if someone said to me " Put a jumper on and get outside, you'll feel much better" I would probably punch them.

FindingMeno · 07/06/2024 09:30

It's all the lurgies going around still that really pisses me off.
Everyone seems to have colds, chest infections and covid at the moment, and the wet and changeable weather must be a factor.

Jumpers, coats, MOVE!

CHEESEY13 · 07/06/2024 09:32

YES! Currently blowing a gale in Lancs. Again.

Ciderlout · 07/06/2024 09:33

I can’t believe it’s June. It’s freezing and windy as fuck, I can hear it howling.

Yeah I’m sure she hasn’t taken a single step outside her door since last summer

willowtolive · 07/06/2024 09:41

FuzzyPuffling · 07/06/2024 07:46

It's been warm ( 24°) and sunny here in SW Devon. T shirts and shorts weather for days.
The kids over the road have been in their massive paddling pool every day.

Really ? Very different to Cornwall we've had a couple of paddling pool days not many and my garden is a sun trap

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 07/06/2024 09:41

Yes OP it is cold but watch out because the puddlesuit wankers will be out in full force with suggestions of coats, ‘huddling under blankets’ and hot chocolate

None of which I want in the summer and I refuse to apologise for that
