DP called me a middle class racist

Just now. Discussing the upcoming election. Both always voted labour. I said I’m voting Tory in the upcoming GE for a multitude of reasons, some of which come under the bracket of gender identity, kids sex ed, general tightening of illegal immigration, not taxing private schools. I explained you kind of just have to vote for the party that most aligns with your beliefs as you’re never going to agree with all of them (I don’t agree with a lot of Tory policies, but the ones that are important to me are relevant)

DP then jokes “So you’re a middle class racist now!” Then says only joking. DP will be voting labour.

Aibu to think this is quite out of order?

edited for typo!

Voting Tory means she doesn’t support women’s rights.

Only idiots think tories are good for women

Nonsense.
Read Labours policies
Read the Conservatives policies
Theres only one party prepared to stick their neck out and protect women. If you think that’s Labour you are either dillusional or haven’t bothered to dissect the policies. Preferably the later as there’s still time then

You must remember when Dianne Abbott was ridiculed for telling us we should be sending our children to state schools while hers were being privately educated?

And the way that the Press seemed to forget that her son also had a father and therefore was equally able to make decisions regarding his son's education.

What you say is only true if you view women's rights as a single issue solely related to gender. Which is of course a view you are entitled to, but not everyone agrees with you.

The conservatives have incredibly racist policies and put in place the mechanisms for the windrush scandal. Is everyone that votes Tory racist? Well no, just like voting Labour doesn't make you not a racist. But I think it makes sense for everyone to wonder if their vote is going to perpetuate racism or inequality, for many people a vote for conservatives is that. Is it worth the damage to society for cheaper private school, well who knows, especially given the cost of everything else. I'm also mixed race, won't vote Tory. They might have an ethnically diverse leadership but they're people that are happy to kick the ladder down and divide people.

Labour was in power in 1948 when the Windrush people arrived here!
It appeared that no one had given the windrush generation a right to actually live here as equals…..that’s Labour then.!!!

In 2018 this scandal came to light and the Conservatives have investigated and are compensating people wrongly treated

So NOT the Conservatives.
Why do Labour voters not research history and assume because it’s in the papers during the Conservatives time in power it must be their fault.

Againname · 31/05/2024 21:32

With regards immigration. My previous post wasn't intended to show support for any particular political party. I was simply responding to OP's partner suggesting it's racist to have valid concerns about the impact of mass immigration, especially on less advantaged communities. As I said, minority of genuine bigots aside, it's no different to the issues regularly seen on here about regional within-UK 'blow-ins'. Which political party will address the issues, I don't know tbh. Obviously, as I also said before, when and if the issues and potential solutions are looked at, it needs to be done calmly and avoiding hostility or hate to any groups. That's perfectly possible with the will to do so.

To add to that:

  • Cuts to council services (predominantly used by women, remember SureStart?)
  • Cuts to the courts (hence legalising rape)
  • Cuts to education and the NHS (where more women work)
  • Removal of the right to paid leave for temp workers since leaving the EU (guess what the majority of temp workers are?)
Yep, the Tories are great for women.
ABirdsEyeView · 31/05/2024 21:39

This is what lefties are like - anyone who doesn't see the world exactly as they do is 'devoid of human compassion' or some such shite.

I don't like how he's taking up you - it's vaguely threatening. 'Vote as I think you should or I'll tell my family and they won't love you'! Yuck!

Excuse me.
Thats a disgusting attack saying I mean ‘white middle class women’

how dare you suggest I’m some sort of racist

Your baseless comment shows you have little connection, care or understanding of women and girls

They’re the only type of woman the tories are remotely ‘good’ for. So what did you mean by that statement?

That makes it allll better

eye roll

Mass and illegal immigration is a huge problem.

Well are you voting Tory for racist policies?

No she's voting for them for ~middle class~ other reasons and the racist pilicies are just an unfortunate side effect.

Hence why her DP made the middle class racist comment. Looking after the middle classes and gatekeeping are most important and screwing over the poor/vulnerable/foreign are observed as just unfortunate side effects for voting Conservative for people like this.

CuriousGeorge80 · 31/05/2024 21:57

I call bullshit, and that this is just a post designed to start an argument! (It’s worked well, to be fair!)

Sorry, I'm just not following ....
Why did he call you racist?

The stance on migration.

Glipsy · 31/05/2024 22:01

people saying they’ll vote Tory cos of trans people is one of the maddest things, never thought I’d see the day.

Tories don’t give a shit about what happens to regular woman day to day, in cubicles or changing rooms or nothing. They’re using the issue to stir up a frenzy, like they do with the sodding ULEZ and immigration and it’s so fucking obvious.

it’s all ‘we need to take a calm measured approach’ and the calm measured approach is ‘we’ll send them to Rwanda’ and ‘people are vandalising traffic islands’ and ‘kids are going to the toilet in cat litter in schools’ it’s MAD why can’t everyone see how mad it is?

AlcoholSwab · 31/05/2024 22:03

Namechangedforthis25 · 31/05/2024 20:06

Because she’s voting Tory due to their immigration policy presumably

Given the illegal immigration issues have been caused by the Tories sticking two fingers up to our neighbours since we left the EU, I think it's fair to say another five years of Tory rule will lead to dismal outcomes on this score.

The OP may or may not be a racist but she is definitely a mug.

SaltyGod · 31/05/2024 22:06

Hey OP, safe to say that things get heated at election time as this thread suggests.

Clearly you’re not racist just because you might vote Tory. You know this, as do all the various posters who are enjoying a frothy moment.

I would hope that I’m open minded enough to always love my family and friends, irrespective of how they vote. I strongly disagree with some of my family’s votes, but that doesn’t make me right or them wrong, me good or them bad.

Elections drive us to such black and white differences, it often stifles debate into soundbites and heated emotions disguised as facts.

Vote for whomever you feel is best in your constituency.

p.s I also know many Labour supporters who have gone to / send their kids to private schools.

Upallnight2 · 31/05/2024 22:07

He sounds like a standard labour voter to be honest 🙄 getting gobby because people dare have a different opinion to them

Whoswhoof · 31/05/2024 21:53

Mass and illegal immigration is a huge problem.

People came legally and then were unpersoned—that is the Windrush scabdal although you don’t seem to grasp it. Paperwork and permission mean nothing if the government decides to revoke it

Lolocopter · 31/05/2024 22:16

Your DP's comments reflect the reality of Tory policies and attitudes in the main.

Scratching my head at how you could possibly think this lot is more pro-woman than Labour, or that they are doing well at stemming immigration. The Rwanda plan is such a pathetic waste-of-money farce.

sweetpickle2 · 31/05/2024 22:17

I can’t say whether everyone who chooses to vote Tory in this election is racist, but they’re definitely stupid.
