Would your husband…

I had accidentally put something in the dustbin today, needed it before bed (11:30) I told my husband who told me to go get it. It’s pitch black, almost midnight and the bin is at the end of the drive.

Would your husband ask you to go retrieve the item or would he go get it?

truthfully most likely because I am scared of spiders hanging out in the dark and coming near me when it’s dark.. At least my husband can hold the phone light and help! There’s nothing wrong with (sometimes irrational) fears and wanting someone to hold your hand.. I’d do the same if he needed me to help him something else

Goodness, that must be very hard, to be so scared of spiders you can’t go out in the dark alone. Must be very limiting.💐

MyTherapistSaidImAnAdult · 29/05/2024 01:10

My husband would get it if I asked him to.

I wouldn't ask him to.

I reserve asking him for real emergencies like spiders.

My bin day is tomorrow. Like a PP, I have no husband to ask/coerce so I'd have to do it myself. In fact I have just out my rubbish out in the dark and rain.

What’s coercive about asking a favour of your partner? 🙄

AliAtHome · 29/05/2024 12:37

My husband would probably go and get it but I wouldn’t ask or expect him to.

JayJayj · 08/01/2025 06:46

I wouldn’t even expect him to. I’d just go get it myself.

Exactly, I'm a grown woman and can do anything for myself.

What would you do if you lived alone? You’d go get it yourself, you’d have no choice. I don’t understand why husband is expected to do it?
But I’ve been a single mum for 13 years and have to do everything myself, so maybe I’m missing the point of the post

I spent most of my DC childhood as a single parent, I always did everything otherwise it would not get done. It appalls me how feeble some people are - both men and women tbh.

All those women who travel for work and mobilise an army of help for hubby to care for his own sodding kids.

My drive is over 200m long in the middle of nowhere, i would 100% be prepared to go get whatever it was from the bin. My lovely OH might offer to do it for me, or at least come wit, but it wouldn't be a dealbreaker

My OH is Director of Pest Control. I'm Director of IT and Operational Technology too come to think of it.

This thread is over 6 months old, unless the OPs drive is hundreds of miles long then I expect it's been sorted by now

stayathomer · 08/01/2025 09:10

One of the kids could be in the bin in your situation and dh might still say ‘in a while’😅😅😅
edited to add: I’m chief spider/ insect remover, drain unclogger and mouse get rid ofer here btw

I don't even know how people come across threads this old never mind bothering to reply to them SEVEN MONTHS LATER

Momstermunch · 08/01/2025 09:54

It's the annoying 'similar threads' section that Mumsnet have at the bottom of threads. Anyone new to Mumsnet isn't necessarily going to know that Mumsnet is stupidly pointing you to old threads. Things that I think to check as an oldie like the date on the op, using see all to see if the op has updated etc etc are things that are easy to miss if you're new to this format.
