I'm excited as we are coming into the summer.

And AIBU gets the most people.

I love hearing about other people's travels.

I am going to Spain for two weeks. One week in valencia and one week in benidorm.

Malta in a few weeks, with 7 of my female friends. We have booked an apartment with a private pool.

Benidorm Magic Robin Hood with my husband, son and another family in September.

StepUpSlowly · 25/05/2024 11:17

Just came back from Mauritius, and I live in Spain (by the beach and not too far off from Benidorm) so might spend most of the summer home as it feels like a holiday in and by itself. I have a trip to Italy planned though and will be going to Kenya /Tanzania & Zanzibar in September and also have a Lapland trip planned for Xmas.

I like to dig for good/cheap travel deals throughout the year.

I’m a bit mind boggled by the amounts people are spending (not envious btw).
How much do people on average spend because it sounds like thousands a year !

@Lottelenya

what better way can there be to spend money?

Well generally I only need to pay for myself. With exception of this time when I'm taking DS. So we are doing to Eygpt and Thailand.(. Prices per person) Economy BA flight to Eygpt cost £35 and paid rest in avios. Business class from Cairo to Phuket was £730. Eco flight to Bangkok is £15. Return flight from Cairo to London cost £15 plus euro bonus points.

Accomodation in Eygpt is £7.50 for 2 nights ( have apartment each) Thailand aiming at £120- (he will stay in hostels ) This is 17 days worth.

So rest is food transport etc. We happy to take public transport rather than organized tours and don't need fancy restaurants.

So it's the flights that cost. Suppose I could save money by booking economy but I am always uncomfortable and by going via Eygpt then flights not much difference than economy from London and DS wants to see pyramids

A caribbean cruise/florida, and 2 weeks in Spain 🇪🇸

whoputallofthatthere · 25/05/2024 11:42

All of these trips sound amazing!
I went to Iceland in March and have had 2 short breaks in the UK as well, one in April, and have just got back from a couple of nights in London.
Doubt I'll do anything else this year, but I do have La Palma (Canary Islands) booked for 2025. Can't wait!

Infinity234 · 25/05/2024 11:49

A week in Spain near Salou. Will be my kids first time flying (17, 16 and 7!) because we’ve always driven to France!

rosemarylavendar · 25/05/2024 11:51

Sweden for a short break and Jamaica for two weeks!

StealthNameChange · 25/05/2024 11:54

Disneyland Paris, Cornwall and was looking at a trip to Tenerife this morning. Might book it later.

MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption · 25/05/2024 12:24

Rome! I have never been abroad before, so I am super excited.

We will do a day trip to Tuscany, and possibly the Amalfi coast. Just trying to figure out if a day trip to the AC is worth it due to the long travel time.

We haven't been able to afford many holidays, and never abroad, so I am counting down the days.

completely agree!

Waitingfordoggo · 25/05/2024 12:37

Oh how lovely @MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption. I hope you have an amazing time- it sounds like a great trip.

Lottelenya · 25/05/2024 12:41

@LuckySantangelo35 as I said, not envious but just wondered how much people budgeted a year. And yes travelling is great.

VestaTilley · 25/05/2024 12:44

Paris and Disneyland Paris for May half term. We’re on the Eurostar as I type!

Then two weeks in Cornwall in August. Maybe a couple of nights camping with my DF and DNephew in Dorset in July.

We were hard up for the first few years of DS’s life; we’re a bit better off now and while we’re not going to start jetting off to the Maldives, it is nice to be able to go on a holiday on the continent or at home once or twice a year.

Unlikely to go abroad in summer for years to come though; far too expensive nowadays.

PMPBlue · 25/05/2024 12:53

California in July, then short break in Berlin in October.

We are going to the Isle of Wight. Have some great memories of it as a child but this is first time for my own DS. Am anticipating another rainy school holidays but at least IOW might stand a chance as one of the sunniest places in UK.

Same for us!

Lovelynames123 · 25/05/2024 13:27

I went to Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife at Easter, currently in Turkey for half term, going to Gran Canaria in the summer, hoping to get away in October half term - looking forward to the day I'm not tied to school holidays!

Lovelynames123 · 25/05/2024 13:33

@Lottelenya different priorities I suppose...I have my dc 50/50, my food bill is tiny as I eat at work when I've not got them. I hardly go out, I have my own business and never take holiday unless I'm going away somewhere. I cannot switch off from work unless I'm physically away so I will always prioritise my holiday budget, life is short and I'd rather have the experiences than £££ in the bank

Cattery · 25/05/2024 13:37

Here’s my brag; I had a week in Barbados and smashing it was

It depends on how you holiday-I spend less on 3-4 holidays in a year than a lot of people do when they go AI. I also am not tied to school holidays

Definitely thousands, it's thousands just for a cheap week in Spain in the school holidays 🫣

There was a thread a few weeks ago about how much people spend on holidays.

For us getting away is a priority

Lottelenya · 25/05/2024 17:15

Yeah agree. Can’t talk really, our caravan probably cost equivalent of 4 holidays 🙄

Solotravelleragain · 25/05/2024 17:18

Main holiday was Japan a few months ago, but still got a few days in Spain and then a trip to South Korea to look forward to for the rest of the year.
