Dad ruining wife's half-marathon finish

Has anyone else seen this video?

Non-DM link

Brief synopsis: A dad stands by the half-marathon finish line with his young daughters. Crucially, he's standing in front of the finish ribbon. When he sees his wife about to win the race, he encourages the toddlers to intercept her with hugs. She has to dodge them to avoid knocking them over, finishes the race and celebrates. Dad throws up his arms in disgust at her choosing to win the race rather than stop to hug her daughters.

IMO this is the perfect example of a man trying to make his wife's achievements all about him, then blaming her for his ineptitude and her wanting to celebrate her own achievement. A mother is an individual in her own right.

I feel the same way about men who propose to their partners when they've won a race/accepted an award/ celebrating their graduation.

YABU - he's an amazing dad and the mum let her kids down by selfishly taking the win.

YANBU - he's a dick.

The Dad Is Totally To Blame For The Half Marathon Mom "Ignoring" Her Kids

A frustrating moment in sports is going viral after a dad allows their kids almost to ruin their mom's half marathon win.

'I can’t even' Pampledample, if you can't even, then you have been very lucky in the men you have encountered.
Your good experiences might have led to stilting your imagination, but most of us have had very mixed experiences, and we get it, we just get it.
Thing is, we no longer have to giggle, play the game, give in, pretend it's OK, cover for them. Can you not sense the outrage on here?
No, not all men are like this - we know that.

Yeah this. ^ 'I can't even' is the sort of thing my DD would have said when they were 14. Bet @Pampledample facepalmed and said 'fuck my life' too!

I mean, Brazil isn't exactly world-renowned for its gender equality, He's probably a wanktard like many other men.

Regardless of my feelings on any of this and the rage it is provoking on all sides, I am very much enjoying 'wanktard'. It trips off the tongue wonderfully.

@Curiossir

how on earth can you not see hi jacking her race and her achievement as wrong?!

Some women are so used to misogyny, and men fucking women over (all over the world) that it's second nature to them, and sadly they can't see when a man is being an utter pig-headed misogynist rancid cunt.

I can't even. SMH. Fuck my life. Errrmagerrrd! 😬

That is quite a gem of a word isn't it? Grin

And it describes this man wonderfully! 😆

The woman has literally come out and explained what happened, not sure why this has turned into a feminist issue tbh. The memes that it has generated are hilarious tho!

What has she said about it all?!

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 24/05/2024 22:30

This is why some events have crowd barriers around the finish line to stop people getting onto the course.
What he did was dangerous. His wife and/or the children could have been seriously injured if she had fallen over one of them and into the path of the motorbike.

No one is interested in the truth of the situation as it doesn't fit the Mumsnet "all mean are bastards" narrative. 😂

FiveZoo · 30/05/2024 01:43

What's that coming over the hill, is it a monster....

No it's the runner up whose about to overtake

Obviously, dad's arn't able to think spontaneously and make a different call on the situation.

She even has to make his excuses up.

Men.

That's true. He was not very observant and did something stupid. But some men are quite keen on spoiling their female partner's achievements. I was married to one - who did not do it all the time (this is the problem) but sometimes and then it was all about him being ignored.

This is exactly what happened. The woman/runner has made excuses for her husband's shitty behaviour. Trying to stop her from winning by shoving the children in front of her. He looked clearly annoyed, (when she didn't stop for him and the children,) and threw his hands up in the air to show how terribly annoyed he was! 😆

The woman has realised his behaviour has been badly received by the public/on social media, and she is doing damage control. He may be a perfectly decent man/husband/father, and not a dickhead at all. But he behaved like a dickhead that day.

Plus people way too sure she had something going on with her brother 😂

So do you know her or when you say that is exactly what happened is that just what you think?

Imagine if he hadn't done it and she complained that he hadn't stuck to their agreement. MN would be going just mad about that.

OP - you are being unreasonable. She said she planned this and it didn't 'ruin' the race. 🙄

Whiteglasshouse · 02/06/2024 11:35

I agree with also that there is a lot of cultural misogyny but this doesn’t appear to be an example of it.
When we grab hold of snippets like this without looking into the context, it undermines attempts to raise awareness of real issues.
