Dad ruining wife's half-marathon finish

Has anyone else seen this video?

Non-DM link

Brief synopsis: A dad stands by the half-marathon finish line with his young daughters. Crucially, he's standing in front of the finish ribbon. When he sees his wife about to win the race, he encourages the toddlers to intercept her with hugs. She has to dodge them to avoid knocking them over, finishes the race and celebrates. Dad throws up his arms in disgust at her choosing to win the race rather than stop to hug her daughters.

IMO this is the perfect example of a man trying to make his wife's achievements all about him, then blaming her for his ineptitude and her wanting to celebrate her own achievement. A mother is an individual in her own right.

I feel the same way about men who propose to their partners when they've won a race/accepted an award/ celebrating their graduation.

YABU - he's an amazing dad and the mum let her kids down by selfishly taking the win.

YANBU - he's a dick.

The Dad Is Totally To Blame For The Half Marathon Mom "Ignoring" Her Kids

A frustrating moment in sports is going viral after a dad allows their kids almost to ruin their mom's half marathon win.

I read earlier that the woman wasn't expecting to win, so she'd said she'll jog with the kids across the finish line.

The stupid bell end of a father could have used his one brain cell to realise that as she was actually winning, jogging with two toddlers probably not the best idea with another runner right up her arse practically.

I imagine someone will say that as she wasn't explicit with the instructions its not his fault. We just cant expect men to use common sense, they need spoon feeding 🙄

I'm so angry for her.

Really. I’m sure she doesn’t need your anger 😁

I don't really think that either parent emerges from that with much glory, tbh. It's the kids I'm feeling sorry for.

@LizzieBennett73

what has the mum done??
and why on earth would you feel sorry for the kids?!

What an absolute fucking thundercunt. SOME men just can't stand it that some women can do difficult things really well can they? What a horrible thing to do to her!

Typical of some men though. Just HAVE to try and spoil a woman's fun and joy and moments of happiness, by making something all about him and how HE feels. And/or throwing a strop and going into a dark mood for some made up reason, just to try and douse his woman's enjoyment and fun and joy.

Evil.

There is so much embedded misogyny in society. There are so many issues we need to discuss intelligently, policies that need to be acted on, awareness raised.

The bullshit responses on here vilifying the husband undermine the proper debates we need to be having.

Pampledample · 24/05/2024 16:44

SabreIsMyFave · 24/05/2024 14:09

Yeah... And selfish, and mean-spirited, and can't BEAR his wife getting any attention, and doing really well at something he wishes HE was good at. Trying to piss on her chips, steal her thunder, and make her success ALL ABOUT HIM.

Typical behaviour of most men. Big babies who HATE women over-achieving and being better at something than them. 🙄

I can’t even 🤦‍♀️

LizzieBennett73 · 24/05/2024 16:46

She could have signed for the kids to run with her, or at least turned to them as soon as she'd gone through the ribbon. Instead she ignores them and is busy hugging the guy that came in after her. She completely ignores them. Dad should never have pushed them in front of her. Therefore neither parent behaved very well. Just my opinion.

errr it was a race for adults, not kids Hun. Her kids couldn’t have run with her. Not everything in life is for kids.

theteddybear · 24/05/2024 16:51

I'd have tore a strip off him once in the car or at home!

I'd have felt bad passing my kids by but likely wld have done exactly what this woman did. The hugs from ur kids come after not just before the finish line. He was an absolute idiot (to put it mildly).

@LizzieBennett73

plus it won’t do the kids any harm to be ignored for a few moments, I’m pretty sure they’ll have seen that their mum was kinda busy. It does kids good to see their parents engaged and passionate about something outside of the family.

Curiossir · 24/05/2024 16:55

Nope- not a lot wrong apart a bit misjudged. Maybe the kids had a hand in it.

Because the race was her race and was about her and her achievement. Can women not just have something for them, do they still have to accommodate everyone else first all the time? Good for her for seizing the moment, taking the time to enjoy her win and putting herself first in this instance.

The woman has literally come out and explained what happened, not sure why this has turned into a feminist issue tbh. The memes that it has generated are hilarious tho!

gardenmusic · 24/05/2024 18:03

'I can’t even' Pampledample, if you can't even, then you have been very lucky in the men you have encountered.
Your good experiences might have led to stilting your imagination, but most of us have had very mixed experiences, and we get it, we just get it.
Thing is, we no longer have to giggle, play the game, give in, pretend it's OK, cover for them. Can you not sense the outrage on here?
No, not all men are like this - we know that.

pinkzebra02 · 24/05/2024 18:34

I mean, Brazil isn't exactly world-renowned for its gender equality, He's probably a wanktard like many other men.
