To orchestrate a play date to get this dad's number?

My daughter is friendly with another girl at her school who is slightly older and in a different class. We (me and DD) bump into her and her dad most days on the school run and the girls get along really well.

I'd like to get to know him better but I'm far too shy to just say that, so would it be unreasonable to use a play date as a reason to get his number? 😂

He's a single father, mother isn't on the scene.

I thought I'd update this thread as there has been some developments since my last post. We are now seeing one another.

The short version is, when school resumed after the summer holidays we started talking properly and after being sure that I did in fact like him as more than a friend I told him how I feel. It turns out he is interested after all.

It's very early days so we are keeping it separate from the kids for now but.. exciting times 🙂

Are they an age that you would both be supervising a playdate? Organising an out of school get together where you can get to know each other better organically is fine. Using subterfuge to get his number then using thst number to message him about non child related topics without any encouragement is inappropriate.
