Of course, everyone has to do something, so this is light-hearted.

But which jobs would be red flags for you and you can't imagine going out with someone who does this?

Mine would be-

Tory MP/aide/minister- or anything to do with the Tory party
Scaffolder
Stripper
Porn star
PT/fitness instructor/gym owner
Nightclub owner/ manager

Interesting to hear yours!

@Westfacing "A number of people have mentioned 'Porn' - isn't that bit like saying you wouldn't date a paedophile, in that it doesn't need to be said"

Not according to the sex work is work people. Just a job like any other, apparently.

Justontherightsideofnormal · 22/05/2024 18:57

my DH is a tanker driver and collects people’s sewage if not on mains. Super family company he works for , pay is great and doesn’t smell bad.

ExpatAl · 22/05/2024 19:24

Arms Dealer or mercenary. But they wouldn’t tell you probs anyway. OMG my husband is an arms dealer.

BlueFlowers5 · 22/05/2024 19:26

These threads have made me laugh out loud..thanks all! I once met a gorgeous bloke at a party, everything was going well until he told me that Jesus was his best friend…not for me and I have nothing against people who do religion…

And what's wrong with the military? We might be glad of them one day! My son has been a pt/assistant gym manager & now he's in the Raf. He's good looking, loyal, hard working, ambitious; not unintelligent either judging by the initial tests he had to take when he first applied. But still not good enough for some it seems 🙄

For me personally, I've known a fair few soldiers/navy sailors and all bar one have either enthusiastically cheated on their wives, regularly consumed drugs while on shore leave, or been aggressive enough to have raised red flags. I went on only a couple of dates with one soldier before he became incredibly controlling. When I mentioned this to one of his army buddies after he'd witnessed it, he (the friend) laughed and said "yeah welcome to the family, no getting away now. We can find you, you know". I'd also be a bit wary of them from the perspective of them benefitting from the "lads club" culture of keeping things hush hush and covering up bad behaviour. Similar to the police in that way I suppose - if your PC hubby is beating you up, who are you going to call? His mates?

This is absolutely not a condemnation of your son, who I'm sure is lovely, and of course I don't know every single forces person in the country. But my personal experiences have put me off them as romantic interests! Unless someone exceptional comes along to change that I suppose

Car salesman - because every time I looked at him I would see Swiss Tony.

springhassprung20469 · 22/05/2024 19:42

Police, scaffolder, teacher, traffic warden

Ohgollymolly · 22/05/2024 19:57

Car sales man
Estate agent
Retail worker especially supermarket worker
Male hairdresser
Chef
Butcher
Abattoir worker

StealthNameChange · 22/05/2024 19:57

Traffic warden/bailiff. I hate that smug look they give people and the ‘I’m better than you’ attitude. That’s why I can’t watch shows like ‘Can’t Pay we’ll take it away’. Hate it.

Oh I'd definitely date a hairdresser! Imagine the great hair you'd have 😂

HorsesAreRunningOn3LegsTonight · 22/05/2024 20:00

Pig slaughterer

Anon543210 · 22/05/2024 20:01

Bouncer. I used to work in a nightclub many years ago and I seen what nearly all of the bouncers got up to with multiple women and all of them had girlfriends or long tern partners
Also chefs, I was married to a chef for many years and he was very abusive blamed it on the long hours and being tired but to be honest that doesn't excuse coming at your 3 month pregnant wife with a sledgehammer.

My friends husband is a hairdresser and after a long day at work the last thing he wants to do is her hair.

tommyhoundmum · 22/05/2024 20:10

This all seems so superficial. Noone should be judged by their job much less their political party when there is scarcely a cigarette paper between the 2 main parties.

Applescruffle · 22/05/2024 20:13

Bailiff.

I just cant imagine chatting about their day at work with them.

So what did you do today? Oh you reduced some poor struggling single mum to tears in front of her kids and in her own home?

Just not sexy.

They very often don't do their job right too. And they are told this pretty much every day by people even when they are do their job right, that they refuse to listen when they are not. They just refuse to hear it. As a debt adviser, I had to put in so many complaints on behalf of my clients because enforcement agents have tried to seize items they had no legal right to seize and they won't listen, its just noise to them until you take it high enough that they have to listen. They are very smug and irritating.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/05/2024 20:21

Over workers or awkward shifts.
Anything that makes him smell of fish.

Dentist- I’ve awful teeth so I’d be hiding my mouth all the time😅😅😅

But you'd have great teeth potentially with him. Unless it's a case of the cobbler's children having the worst shoes.

Jeannie88 · 22/05/2024 20:27

Salesman

Didimum · 22/05/2024 20:30

Why is gynaecologist such a popular choice for the list?

I’d have thought a gynae came with a mumber of benefits…no?

Yes, I would see it as a plus.

CM97 · 22/05/2024 20:39

A tinder match just told me he's a funeral director... I didn't think a job would affect me until I read that!

Bernardo1 · 22/05/2024 20:48

Labour politician, of whichever faction. Estate agent, Undertaker (especially if they work from home!

pinkstripeycat · 22/05/2024 20:51
