Of course, everyone has to do something, so this is light-hearted.

But which jobs would be red flags for you and you can't imagine going out with someone who does this?

Mine would be-

Tory MP/aide/minister- or anything to do with the Tory party
Scaffolder
Stripper
Porn star
PT/fitness instructor/gym owner
Nightclub owner/ manager

Interesting to hear yours!

Police.

What's wrong with a vet?

For me, I'd be put off by the long hours and being on call.

Not so much to black list them, but I'd probably have a think about whether I want that lifestyle

SquashPenguin · 21/05/2024 11:44

Influencer by a mile
Anyone who works in a slaughterhouse
Fisherman or farmer

Mnetcurious · 21/05/2024 11:45

I see you’ve covered mine - Tory MP or anything in the sex industry. Don’t understand scaffolder though?! Edited as just saw influencer above - add that to the list as well.

TuesdayWhistler · 21/05/2024 11:46

Anyone connected with Labour.
Anyone that worked for or with or near or in the same building as Keir Starmer.
Anyone that's employed in HR.
Anyone's that employed as a DEI Officer.

One.more..

Anyone that is employed by Capita, especially the licensing goons.

Uncooperativefingers · 21/05/2024 11:46

Mine was anyone on shift work. And then I fell in love with my (now) DH. Still think shifts are a pain in the arse though and they really negatively impact our lives, especially as I work flexibly M-F.

HeartbreakerEyes · 21/05/2024 11:49

Abbatoir worker/butcher, anything like that
Police
Military
Hotel workers

ohtowinthelottery · 21/05/2024 11:49

@Revelatio Most of the scaffolders I've come across can't string a sentence together without at least 3 'F' words in it. That would be a definite no for me!

Bananalanacake · 21/05/2024 11:49

being an unmemployed layabout would put me off someone, can't think of any jobs I'd avoid, apart from the obvious illegal ones like drug dealer,

MargoLivebetter · 21/05/2024 11:50

Any sewage related profession (couldn't cope with the smell)

My nephew is a scaffolder, I do love him and inside he is still the sweet boy I used to babysit but I do know what you mean.

HiFillyJonk · 21/05/2024 11:35

Mercenary

That would come inder military, as most mercenary/foreign security types are definitely ex-military or something very similar.
Mercenaries are military with knobs on.

JamSandle · 21/05/2024 11:53

Sex industry.

ohtowinthelottery · 21/05/2024 11:54

@Hoppinggreen and I'll add roofers into the mix for the same reasons! (And I know quite a few roofers locally plus have had them working on new builds around my garden multiple times and have had to ask them to tone it down - ditto discussing their sex lives from the rooftops!)

My Vet friend just moved practices to do less on call, her work hours before she did were brutal.
She does get to do some really cool stuff though and me/DD have been able to as well because of her so I would probably consider being married to a Vet as worth it

aridiculousargument · 21/05/2024 11:56

Think mine have been covered But will list

armed forces
spy
arms dealer
globe trotting stuff in general, come to think of it

trades - see above, scaffolder. There’s so much misogyny, sexism, bad behaviour and swearing and bad manners. I worked somewhere where I had A LOT of contact with lots of men in the trades. So it would take someone VERY special and different.

GerbilsForever24 · 21/05/2024 11:56

what do you have against fitness instructors? That seems so weird to me.

For me it would be anyone who works for the Tory party. x10000 if they work for any of the top wankers over there.

MOstly though, it would be someone who doesn't work and doesn' thave a really really good reason.

TrishM80 · 21/05/2024 11:56

Circus clown

Literally from rooftops. 🤣

aridiculousargument · 21/05/2024 11:57

TrishM80 · 21/05/2024 11:56

Circus clown

As long as he didn’t get dressed for work near me, and changed before coming home
But I guess circus clowns might sort of fit into the globe trotting/travelling occupation I ruled out.

forgot to add to my list - tories

But earn more, and are unkliely to announce you all need to move house so might not be so bad.

ladyofshertonabbas · 21/05/2024 11:58

MP
Police (tried that).

MonsteraMama · 21/05/2024 11:59

Top of my list would be someone unemployed. Wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. Any job is better than no job.

After that... Anything exceptionally dangerous, anything that smells even remotely like an MLM, anyone who works in "sales", or a surgeon.

I couldn’t cope with the OINK OINK OINK in my home either, tbh
