Just having a laugh with the kids as DD4's first word was Cheese!

She had done the usual babbly stuff and we did all the usual "Oh that was dada, that was mama" thing, but the first honest to goodness word she said that we recognised without a doubt was Cheese! Luckily it was a weekend and we all heard it otherwise I dont think anyone would have believed me!

She was in her high chair, I gave her her lunch and said "ooh cheese!" and she said it right back. It was her favourite food, still is!

Hit me with your weirdest first words!

Love that! We had 'door' - considering we lived in a tiny flat with about 3 doors total I was impressed 🤣

marthasmum · 19/05/2024 20:05

My DD’s first word was ‘more’. The first time she put two words together it was ‘more cheese’

i was at playgroup with my son and he was trying to get a biscuit from my friend. She said to him if you can say biscuit I will give you it and he said it clear as day! Was very funny! She was gutted she had to give him her biscuit! I’m sure he was under 1 and ironically was a late talker!

Purplestorm83 · 19/05/2024 20:10

My DD’s first word was ‘mine’ (usually applied to food) and her second was ‘ham’ which she used for meat generally 🤣 she is now 5 yrs old and still fairly obsessed with food! My other DD’s first two words were ‘baby’ and ‘Teddy’, Teddy meant furry animals generally, she is now 9 and wants to be a zookeeper

Zoesmumma · 19/05/2024 20:10

My seconds first word was Ham. She really loved ham.

My brother’s first word was said to be ‘sugar’. One parent said ‘can you pass the sugar!’ To the other and bro said ‘cugar’

Our DC was ‘door’ as in open-it-so-I-can crawl-uninterrupted

Mb57 · 19/05/2024 20:15

My grandaughter’s first word was cake! Screamed in a very loud voice at a trolley full of cakes going by in a restaurant

RandomMess · 19/05/2024 20:16

"Dah" for star at 9 months it was on her mobile over her cot.

Mamma and Dadda never happened 🙄 Mummy and Daddy perfectly clear at 14 months, way after an awful lot of words!

cardibach · 19/05/2024 20:16

My daughter’s was Tigger.

User1979289 · 19/05/2024 20:16

My cousin reached for the Argos and said "cat-a-log" really slowly. Amazing.

justasking111 · 19/05/2024 20:17

Tesco. He recognised the logo.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 19/05/2024 20:17

My DD’s first word was England! We are not a particularly patriotic family but we were watching a World Cup game and cheering on England and she just repeated it. She’s a teenager now and hates football!

Inmy40 · 19/05/2024 20:20

Cat poo. No idea why. We don’t even have a cat.

Ha! DD was the same - it was definitely "more" in relation to food...

ICantLogIn · 19/05/2024 20:21

My mate's kid's first word was (famously) LOBSTER. This was about a favourite plushy lobster - it's not like the child was weaned straight from the breast to exotic seafood!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 19/05/2024 20:21

Both my dc had Cat as their first word.

Tarkan · 19/05/2024 20:22

DC1 was "doggy".

I can't remember DC2's but I think it was "mama" or "dada". They were a late talker and ended up in speech therapy because they couldn't pronounce anything properly. Their first really clear sentence after starting that was "fuck off Milo" to the poor dog. I couldn't tell the speech therapist that though (and that one was definitely copied from the kids' dad).

mitogoshi · 19/05/2024 20:22

As my DDs was "Donald's" you can guess what she was talking about! She was older though, past 3 as she's autistic.

l0ml · 19/05/2024 20:23

Mine said bubble perfectly, then nothing else sensible for ages.

parietal · 19/05/2024 20:25

First words are often the words that baby hears most. So my little brothers first words were 'bang bang you're dead' because his older siblings said that when shooting each other with crusts of bread.

UpUpUpU · 19/05/2024 20:25

We had banana. Clear as day and a while before he did the usual mamma and dadda 😂😂
