to think that "Cheese" is up there in the "most unusual first word from a baby" top ten?!

Just having a laugh with the kids as DD4's first word was Cheese!

She had done the usual babbly stuff and we did all the usual "Oh that was dada, that was mama" thing, but the first honest to goodness word she said that we recognised without a doubt was Cheese! Luckily it was a weekend and we all heard it otherwise I dont think anyone would have believed me!

She was in her high chair, I gave her her lunch and said "ooh cheese!" and she said it right back. It was her favourite food, still is!

Hit me with your weirdest first words!

My DD said "circle" first word. She just LOVES shapes

GuppytheCat · 19/05/2024 20:27

Row (as in Row row row your boat, with actions).

Closely followed by No, and then Hello. I think there was a theme there.

KickHimInTheCrotch · 19/05/2024 20:27

I can't remember the first actual word-like noises but the first very clear words DS spoke were "hay bales". We spent a lot of time on farms and then driving through France he used to spot them in the fields.

TellMeWhoTheVillainsAre · 19/05/2024 20:29

My DS's first word was "this" with a pointing finger. Everything he wanted was "this". He quickly realised where the treat box was and would stand pointing at the cupboard saying "this"!

Everyoneisunreasonable · 19/05/2024 20:31

Both mine were the wall stickers on the nursery wall. DS said ‘star’ and DD said ‘owl’!

Ponderingwindow · 19/05/2024 20:31

Mine was “pickle”

WelshNerd · 19/05/2024 20:33

Egg for DD.

WestAtlantic · 19/05/2024 20:35

Cheese was definitely in my child's first 5 words.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 19/05/2024 20:38

My son said cat then dabbydabbies which turned out to be Teletubbies. My daughter said chocolate and at the time wouldn't eat it at all.

TeenLifeMum · 19/05/2024 20:39

‘Copter… we live by a helicopter manufacturer and see them daily so not that unusual round here but probably unusual in the scheme of things.

Not19foreverpullyourselftogether · 19/05/2024 20:46

My eldest’s first word was Cheese, too! Or ‘Teese’ as I wrote it down.

Berga · 19/05/2024 20:47

My DDs first word was duck, in context of her favourite cuddly toy. Then everything was a duck for a couple of weeks, including me!

Seeline · 19/05/2024 20:49

DS was 'more' followed closely by a very plaintive 'all gone' !

RainbowRabbit33 · 19/05/2024 20:49

Polar bear. Admittedly in a kind of mangled way, but it was recognisable. And not just to us 😂😂

Scribblydoo · 19/05/2024 20:52

DD2 distinctly said chicken...we weren't eating, we were looking at our pets. I love the little baby gusto she said it with. Like Leeloo from fifth element ' Cheeken!'

GettingStuffed · 19/05/2024 20:52

DS1 was tree, DS2 was hello mummy can I have drink? Weird child. God knows what DD's was

OmuraWhale · 19/05/2024 20:52

DD's was 'shoe'.

CMOTDibbler · 19/05/2024 20:53

Ds's first word, before mama or dada, was No. It was def a portent

Bovrilla · 19/05/2024 20:55

Mine was, apparently, apple.
DS was boringly mama, but DD surprised us with a duck noise "gack gack" at a bath toy 🤣

GoawaySunrise · 19/05/2024 21:06

Ball. Husband was asking me to shave his balls for his vasectomy because the dr said they don't do that and we were arguing about it. I wanted to use a depilatory cream he wanted me to shave him. I'll do alot for my family, but I just pictured me on my knees and pubes flying around like when Edward Scissorhands cut hair. Little guy said balls. We laughed and he was off to the races

PanicAttax · 19/05/2024 21:08

Snap OP. She still loves it years later.

was closely followed by MORE

lightsandtunnels · 19/05/2024 21:09

When DD came along she was subjected from a very early age to the joys of Pokemon thanks to 4 year old DS who always played with her and chatted to her endlessly. Her first word after the usual babbles and noises was Pikachu. Seriously!

Notawool · 19/05/2024 21:11

Photosynthesis

WhySoManySocks · 19/05/2024 21:12

My son’s first word was also “cheese”! We also have “bun” in the family (as in bread bun).

southcoastmummy · 19/05/2024 21:14

"Dye dye" instead of "bye bye" shouted at the top of their voice...very cute, except for the time we had to take a trip to A&E and she insisted on shouting it to everyone being wheeled past on a trolley!
