The secret to 50+ diet & exercise

Sorry posting here for traffic. But for the last 3 months I have been doing the daily 4 x 1 minute planking & wall sits as recommended by Michael Mosley, and also been living off chaffles. (Cheesy egg waffles) I had never been massively overweight until my late 40s, I’m nearly 52, but the combination of the chaffles & really simple exercises has been a game changer for me. The weight has dropped off me, chaffles are delicious & you can make sandwiches out of them for work.

I’d really struggled to lose those menopause pounds, but so delighted to see a change.

I make omelettes with chilli onion and turmeric.cant be that different.

I only have hot tho. Not sure about cold egg.

😂😂 I dint understand the difference !

egg plus cheese = omelette

egg plus cheese = chaffle

what changed?? Is I’d the method of cooking?

im thinking though that flavours are interchangeable

HorseAreBetterThanHumans · 19/05/2024 20:40

We also bought a waffle maker because of this thread.DH loves them, I found them eggy and cheesey... I might try to make them thinner next time though.

Can you make them with spinach in the mix?

ChaffleLifeChanging · 19/05/2024 20:59

@Pinkfluffypencilcase yes same ingredients, but chaffles are little beauties that you can make sandwiches out of. Delicious warm, but can also be served cold. Less eggy than an omelette. Probably a higher cheese ratio than in an omelette. Good as a bread alternative. I do hope I’ve converted you. 😀

@HorseAreBetterThanHumans eggy & cheesy….. that’s the point ! But spinach I think would be amazing, although we might need to invite a new word for those.

@ChaffleLifeChanging Oh I’m definitely interested!

My go to is bread. This sounds a good alternative.

HaystackHair · 19/05/2024 22:16

I'm thinking these little waffle makers would be good presents for student children.

I'm tempted to get another so I can do two at once.

lisalisa · 19/05/2024 22:24

@ChaffleLifeChanging I registered on bbc to see the plank and other exercises but the bits I watched ( or rather listened to ) had no demos of exercises just talking ?

MooFroo · 19/05/2024 22:33

Oooh sounds great! Trying reduce carbs as a type 2 diabetic so will give them a try!

ChaffleLifeChanging · 20/05/2024 05:58

@lisalisa yes it is just talking as it’s a podcast from a radio show explaining how that doing ‘just on thing’, in this case planking & wall sits can benefit your health. There will be millions of videos on the internet if you search.

Not successful today. I used powdered egg to make a big jug, and used laughing cow triangles for cheese. I hoped to get more chafffles for the same cheese. Bit underwhelming compared to yesterday’s. And I probably needed to fill it more so the squares fill in!

Laughing Cow Cheese is not a good cheese, is it?

DecayedStrumpet · 17/05/2024 11:26

@OlderandwiserMaybe you could try a hollow hold as a plank alternative

See how you get on with the regressions to start as it can be a wee bit, er, intense

Thanks - I really like this idea - will give it a go. :)

VimtoVimto · 20/05/2024 08:55

Quick question about the plank. Does it have to be a plank resting on your forearms or will a straight arm plank be ok. I find the forearm plank hurts my elbows (not arthritic pain more pressure on my skin).

It’s very processed so no good in lots of ways. But ok for slimming world if you are trying to make more chaffles than your cheese ration allows. It was an experiment I won’t repeat!

I believe straight arm planks are harder than on-forearm ones.

I always have something (folded up roll mat or towel) under my (bony) forearms otherwise they really hurt.

Any thing that gets you to engage with your core is going to be beneficial.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 20/05/2024 13:46

After reading this thread I have attempted a plank. 20 seconds. Will try longer tomorrow.

ChaffleLifeChanging · 20/05/2024 15:08

@DramaLlamaBangBang that looks good, love a tuna mayo.

It was nice! Thanks for motivating me to do it!
Also, I went to Lidl today and they are doing an XXL event. I bought an XXL bag of grated mozzarella. I was thinking I could freeze it and take some out as and when I need a Chaffle!
We didnt have any bread so DH had 2 chaffles, and last night DS took a bite out of one thinking it was a normal waffle and declared it 'weird' so I only have 2 left out of 7 I made!

My waffle maker has arrived too! Far cuter than mine in the attic.

What colours has everyone gone for?

Mine has just arrived. It's a turquoise colour to match my kitchen 😀

heydiddlysquat · 20/05/2024 16:26

I must be doing g something wrong! Is it just too much mixture?

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 20/05/2024 16:33

Oh gutting! Cute waffle maker tho!

ChaffleLifeChanging · 20/05/2024 16:37

@heydiddlysquat I think maybe thicken it up with a bit more cheese. You should only need a dessert spoonful dollop size. It will thicken naturally a bit when left in the fridge. Stand it in a bowl to catch the drips for the next one.
