The secret to 50+ diet & exercise

ChaffleLifeChanging · 16/05/2024 20:08

Sorry posting here for traffic. But for the last 3 months I have been doing the daily 4 x 1 minute planking & wall sits as recommended by Michael Mosley, and also been living off chaffles. (Cheesy egg waffles) I had never been massively overweight until my late 40s, I’m nearly 52, but the combination of the chaffles & really simple exercises has been a game changer for me. The weight has dropped off me, chaffles are delicious & you can make sandwiches out of them for work.

I’d really struggled to lose those menopause pounds, but so delighted to see a change.

Another one that’s never heard of them. I love cooking different things for breakfast. These look great for everyone

Thanks

@AGlinnerOfHope

This is similar to the waffle maker I have

you don’t need to oil it first, but I sit it on a plate to catch & reuse any run off.

I think that amount and type of exercise had nothing to do with your weight loss, it’s mainly to do with diet.
If you cut out junk and sugar that’ll be the main reason you’ve lost weight.
I will look at the recipes though as I’m looking for sandwich alternative ideas, so thank you for that.
And well done on losing weight, I’m also noticing weight piling up after 45 (but I also have been stress esting a lot).

ChaffleLifeChanging · 17/05/2024 07:31

@LegalAlienated I agree with you but the exercise has helped me tone up massively & improve my core. It has also reduced my blood pressure.

Wonder if you could make them in those toaster sandwich bags? Or breville toasted sandwich maker?

Problem for me is eggs & no carbs affects my IBS.

I’ve listened to that plank podcast before. I’ll listen again
thanks op!

Superstoria · 17/05/2024 07:35

This looks interesting, i definitely eat too much bread. Thanks OP.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 17/05/2024 07:40

Have to say the Just One Thing podcasts are really great as short and sweet. I like the calm my mind before bed.

PrincessOfPreschool · 17/05/2024 07:41

Genuine qu. How do you not get bored? I can't eat the same meal 2 days running! Let alone 3x a day. Are you a person loves food, or not really?

soupdragon321 · 17/05/2024 07:56

Following. I’m 53 this year, and am really struggling with peri belly. I’m fairly slim everywhere else, have a healthy diet, exercise and just cannot get rid of this belly that has appeared! It’s so bloody frustrating. I’m beginning to think that I just have to get used to my body being like this now. I’m scared to change my diet to loads of cheese for fear of making things worse!

Bearpawk · 17/05/2024 08:02

So a Chaffle is and egg/cheese omelette?
Why are they calling it a 'carb fix'? Surely it's just fat and protein.

Do you get bunged up eating that many eggs? I love eggs but not sure I could eat more than 2 per day!

MrsFunnyFanny · 17/05/2024 08:16

I couldn’t keep eating the same thing every day either. I am following Michael Moslem’s Fast 800, but I eat all sorts of meals. Last night I had a pizza-topped cauliflower steak, and it was delicious. I try to stick to low carb, loads of veg, and plenty of lean protein like chicken, fish, prawns and cottage cheese. I use small quantities of strong cheeses like Danish Blue and Feta to add taste.

MrsFunnyFanny · 17/05/2024 08:17

*Michael Mosley

BloodyHellKenAgain · 17/05/2024 09:04

Sorry if this sounds simple, but presumably you're eating other things as well, like fruit, veg etc

WhataPithy · 17/05/2024 09:13

When I make a chaffle, I use 1 x large egg and about 50g of shredded mozzarella. Nothing else. It makes two chaffles and approx 120 cal, 10g protein and 8.5g fat. (according to Myfitnesspal)

Add some home-made tuna mayo on top and a fresh side salad. Very satisfying and great macros. The saturated fat in it is thousand time better than any margarine on a bread roll.

Austrocock · 17/05/2024 09:18

I'd be very surprised if that doesn't cause problems with your cholesterol levels and you should maybe look at reducing the amount of them you eat - ie. just have them in the morning and have something else instead in the evening.

WhataPithy · 17/05/2024 09:23

Someone manages to lose weight by eating real food and feels better and yet people come in asking “what about cholesterol”. Being overweight is far more damaging.

Sashikocheck · 17/05/2024 09:28

I do the one leg balance whilst I’m brushing my teeth and I’m working up the time on the planks and wall sits

AGlinnerOfHope · 17/05/2024 09:33

I don’t think egg cholesterol is an issue. It’s got healthy fats in. Omega 3. Or maybe six. The one we need more off 🤣

I found my waffle maker which turns out to be a chunky one. 3 eggs, 60g sharp cheddar which is my day’s ration from SW.

I can have another for lunch using cottage cheese/fat free yogurt and oats if I want, but I won’t !

fruit and veg for snacks- and I’ve got a ration of peanuts to use so celery and peanut butter will be nice.

<don’t mind me, just planning my day>

nowtygaffer · 17/05/2024 09:44

Is the chaffle machine a pain to clean? I don't want to buy another gadget to clutter up my cupboards if it's not easy to clean.

ChaffleLifeChanging · 17/05/2024 09:47

I only use a small dollop of mixture in each chaffle, so I would think one egg = 3 Chaffles. Although I have them daily I have a variety of different fillings such as bacon & tomato, tuna mayo & salad, or one sausage with ketchup. I only ate 2 yesterday but had a big stir fry for dinner. I don’t mind repeating what I eat but I have plenty of variety too.

Not read the full thread but I’ve lost about 8lbs since start of April doing his 16:8 ‘diet’. Essentially I’ve cut out breakfast and forced myself not to pick at bread, cheese etc. Also do a daily 5k walk. I’m 58, had piled loads of weight on since I got Long Covid and have always struggled to lose (got mild PCOS). His podcasts are brilliant.

KateMiskin · 17/05/2024 09:50

Don't you get tired of eating chaffles daily? I would get bored. I may try the planks though as my core is shot.

howlismoving · 17/05/2024 09:54

@LegalAlienated exercises like planks and other body weight training exercises do help you lose/maintain weight because they increase muscle density which helps to boost your metabolism

ClipClopperDontStopper · 17/05/2024 09:55

Chaffles remind me of lockdown. I must dig my chaffle maker out.
