The secret to 50+ diet & exercise

Sorry posting here for traffic. But for the last 3 months I have been doing the daily 4 x 1 minute planking & wall sits as recommended by Michael Mosley, and also been living off chaffles. (Cheesy egg waffles) I had never been massively overweight until my late 40s, I’m nearly 52, but the combination of the chaffles & really simple exercises has been a game changer for me. The weight has dropped off me, chaffles are delicious & you can make sandwiches out of them for work.

I’d really struggled to lose those menopause pounds, but so delighted to see a change.

Do you plank for 4 minutes, and wall sit for 4 mins daily (obviously just for 1 minute at a time with breaks in between)?

Crikeyalmighty · 21/05/2024 21:27

@comeondover I dare not do them with anyone around- my knee particularly on one side makes very loud cracking noises!!! I sound like an over 80

ChaffleLifeChanging · 21/05/2024 21:36

@Cryliner yes. But started at 40s planking / wall sits, with 90s break. But now do 1 min on / 1 min off. Do it after shower in the morning & clean teeth & floss while I’m wall sitting too - I have to multi task ! For my one minute breaks between planking I make my bed & sort clothes. So whole routine only adds 4 mins to my day !

@comeondover now you mention it my knees used to hurt like hell a lot. But since doing these for about three months my back & knees have been loads better, and no leg ache in the night.
@Crikeyalmighty you’re welcome. X

I was given the wall exercise to sort out my knees by a trainer once.

Following this one!!!

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 22/05/2024 00:36

What’s a wall sit look like?
back against the wall as if sitting? Then do you move?

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 22/05/2024 12:35

I tried plank today. I did first for 30 seconds and second for 40.

I had the stopwatch on and started shaking at 18 seconds 😱

ChaffleLifeChanging · 22/05/2024 12:39

@jeaux90 I’d be better at doing a YouTube channel for chaffle demos. Adding a little grated halloumi to my mix is producing some pretty spectacular chaffles.

Mine arrived! I'm going to make them for dinner, and make burgers and use them as buns.

How does it work with halloumi? Is the non-meltiness ok? Or do you grate it more finely than usual?

I just made my first batch, with cheddar and almond flour: spectacularly tasty! Eating with tuna mixed with cottage cheese, in lieu of mayo. Honestly, delicious.

ChaffleLifeChanging · 22/05/2024 16:17

@JosiePosey send pics of chaffle burgers please. @VerlynWebbe yes I grated it quite finely, and cooked them a little longer. I’ve not tried them with almond flour yet, but will give it a go. Glad you’re enjoying them.

Has anyone had any side effects from this diet. Been doing this for 2 days and now I have diarrhoea and wondered if connected?

ChaffleLifeChanging · 22/05/2024 19:31

@heydiddlysquat sorry to hear you’ve not been well. To be clear this isn’t a ‘diet’ it’s just a way of eating, to lose weight slowly, when you’re trying to avoid bread, & other carbs. It’s very much about finding a bread alternative that fills you up to be eaten with lots of salad & veg. I’m definitely not a nutritionalist or a doctor but perhaps if you’ve not been used to eating lots of eggs & cheese it may well have upset your stomach. My original post was very much about saying ‘this works for me, so it might work for you’. It kind of works with a low carb Mediterranean style diet.

Thanks for this thread. Inspiring after getting bored with salads. Some things I learned from the wonderful Dr Karan Rajan, freeze bread before you eat it as it’s better for your gut health as is day old pasta from the fridge.

Cryliner · 22/05/2024 19:47

I ordered a waffle maker last night as a result of this thread, and it's here already 😮

Tonight I'm enjoying my last packets of Wotsits and maltesers. Tomorrow - chaffles here I come :).

Cryliner · 22/05/2024 19:48

Meant to say I tried a wall sit earlier. I think I lasted about 15 seconds ...

JosiePosey · 22/05/2024 19:50

These are AAMMMAAZZZIIIINNNGGGG! Thank you op.

Not eggy at all.

I got a double chaffle maker so I could make the top and bottom of my sandwiches at the same time.

I did 6 eggs, 100g grated mozzarella and 100g 4 cheese mix; cheddar, emmental, gouda & edam.

I used 2 spoonfuls of mixture for each chaffle, one of those Chinese style soup spoons.

I made a batch of burgers too, beef mince, diced onion, diced mushrooms, s&p, herbs. So those are all portioned into burgers and in the freezer.

I cooked my burger in the waffle maker first to squash it then put it in the airfryer to make sure it was cooked through and to keep it warm

Do planks pull in your lower stomach? Mine is 'orrible and really sticking out.

SuperGreens · 22/05/2024 19:59

If youre worried about cholesterol and fat you could leave out some of the egg yolks and maybe use cottage cheese I guess? Love the idea thou thanks OP!
