The secret to 50+ diet & exercise

Sorry posting here for traffic. But for the last 3 months I have been doing the daily 4 x 1 minute planking & wall sits as recommended by Michael Mosley, and also been living off chaffles. (Cheesy egg waffles) I had never been massively overweight until my late 40s, I’m nearly 52, but the combination of the chaffles & really simple exercises has been a game changer for me. The weight has dropped off me, chaffles are delicious & you can make sandwiches out of them for work.

I’d really struggled to lose those menopause pounds, but so delighted to see a change.

Can you link to the exercise and the waffles?
I'm 52 and living off sales. Walking daily and yoga 3 times a week and never drop an ounce.

ThePoshUns · 16/05/2024 20:15

Salad not sales

Tell us more as I nurse my wine and sore knees and contemplating serious lifestyle changes..
Chaffle flour from where?
What else do you eat?
Exercise routine?
Cheers and thanks!

Example recipe

chaffle recipe. I make a big jug up with about 6 eggs, half a pack of grated mozzarella & then other grated hard cheese, then keep in the fridge, and top up with an extra egg if needed. The mixture needs to be quite thick.

I have a chaffle sandwich for breakfast with maybe bacon or sausage, big salad for lunch with loads of mayonnaise, avocado & chicken, then dinner is wine with another chaffle with butter, cream cheese & peanut butter. I do avoid any sweet stuff though, apart from the wine. So it’s basically low carb except for the wine.

Congrats on the weight-loss.

I'd be afraid that diet would send my cholesterol through the roof.

I get that, and actually I am on statins since 2 years ago, so will see what my next blood tests show. High cholesterols is a family issue for me, medication seem to be working so far, so I’ll be interested in what the next results show.

Is there any way to make them without a waffle iron?

I think you could just do them in a frying pan. However the waffle maker I use was a tenner off of amazon.

Thank you, doing a shopping list right now Wink

ChaffleLifeChanging · 17/05/2024 05:23

Some chaffle pics. Tuna & avocado is a typical sandwich alternative for me.

I blooody love Michael Mosley! Thanks for sharing 👍

WhataPithy · 17/05/2024 05:50

I love chaffles! My DS loves them in his packed lunch too.

I started Fast800 just before I turned 48. It truly transformed my life. I’m now 51 and still kept it all off. I now lift weights too and have a good muscle tone.

Beatrixslobber · 17/05/2024 06:05

I’m glad you put a picture as I thought you ate it in bread.

I love him.

Newyearoldhair · 17/05/2024 06:11

@ChaffleLifeChanging
Thank you for posting, Im 51 and my weight goes uo and down every 6 months & Im sick and tired of it. Do the wall planks help with posture ?

ChaffleLifeChanging · 17/05/2024 07:07

@Newyearoldhair yes the daily planking has really strengthened my back & core. Pelvic floor is better than ever. The wall sits have massively improved my leg strength, I don’t have to push myself off the ground any longer! I started at 40s x 4 with a 90s rest between each one but now do a minute on / minute off.

Ummme not sure all that saturated fat in the cheese is (,long term) going to be great for menopausal cholesterol levels?

ChaffleLifeChanging · 17/05/2024 07:10

@Beatrixslobber yes an alternative to bread when you’re trying to avoid carbs. And so convenient as I get fed up of salads. Picture of the mixture attached. It needs to be really thick and will thicken even more if left in the fridge. If it gets too thick just add more egg.

This is interesting, well done, I’m going to read more about this. Never heard of a chaffle!

AGlinnerOfHope · 17/05/2024 07:14

Handy thank you. This works well with slimming world. Add some oats for fibre and they’d be the slimming world recipe.

Is the waffle fairly thin, like a waffle cone? I think I have one of those…

I hear you & I’m not a doctor, but excess weight is no good for menopause either & it has helped me lose it. I probably have 2-4 chaffles a day, which is a moderate amount of cheese. I have plenty of salad & veg, and never buy any ‘diet’ foods.
