To ask what on earth do people who post about Palestine expect to happen?

trekking1 · 15/05/2024 22:53

It seems that every time I log into social media there are so people constantly posting about how we need to free Palestine and condemning everyone who ignores their posts.

May I ask what do they expect posting about it will actually accomplish? Did I miss something and wars can be stopped with SM posts? If so, why are they not posting the same about Ukraine? There is still a war going on there...

I’m not about to name people that I know like that. I might not like their views but I’m certainly not going to put them on a public forum. Even IF I did name people that I know what would that do for you?

Didn't Hamas start it And now they are getting their butts kicked? The Palestinians voted for Hamas to lead them, so reap the wild wind, as they say.

Disgusting, just disgusting.

They always try to put words in your mouth OP.

The words ‘Hamas must surrender immediately so Palestinians can stop being used as human sacrifices for an extremist religious ideology’ doesn’t come out of theirs though funnily enough.

Edited

Maybe it's because Netanyahu has stated that, even if the hostages are released, he won't stop.

Because a lot of people hate Jews, and this conflict offers the perfect avenue to air their antisemitism.

Deny it all you like, but it's irrefutable.

And it isn't whataboutery to ask why there isn't similar outrage for the arguably greater casualties in other current conflicts.

People. Hate. Jews.

Yep....100%

headstone · 16/05/2024 21:27

People don’t hate Jews, they hate western weapons being used to kill thousands of children. More children have been killed in this conflict then in any other conflict in the last 4 years with western weapons that is why there is so much outrage.

Oh we all must be imagining the surge in anti semetic hate crime recently.

headstone · 16/05/2024 21:34

The surge is done by sadly an unpleasant minority, islamophobia is also on the increase. The vast majority of people protesting are deeply concerned for the welfare of the Palestinian people. I’ve given you a reason why people are outraged, a factual reason.

Why aren't they equally outraged about the war in Yemen and the famine it's created then? Why aren't they equally outraged about the genocide of Uyghur Muslims in china?

I follow a lot of social media accounts about the holocaust as I'm the granddaughter of a holocaust survivor and am passionate about it not being forgotten. I can't tell you how many comments about Palestine are disrespectfully posted on there...how dare they? Or do you think that's fine and they just care about dead children?

Comedycook · 16/05/2024 21:43

Oh and I've told my dc to never mention their heritage to anyone at the moment....but I'm just imagining all this clearly

This child of Holocaust survivors shows so much more compassion

That particular 'child of Holocaust survivors' is a radical socialist and long-standing pro-Palestinian activist. He rejoined the Labour Party under Corbyn.

Two months ago he gave an interview to the Islamic Human Rights Commission (a non-profit organisation based in London);

Regarding the 7 October attack, he described it as a “break out from jail to hurt the army”. He said the attack was “valuable” as “a meaningful point of changing the narrative” and he supports the “liberation from Zionism”. Towards the end of the interview he acknowledged that some of the things that happened on 7 October were “not very happy”.

He talked about the terrible loss of life and suffering in Gaza – however he also regards the suffering as necessary because, “you can’t defeat colonialism without pain”.

He is anti-capitalist and anti-the West in general. He said “the whole West is united against Palestine because they understand that Palestine holds the key to their decline.” He doesn’t trust the ICJ and he described the chair of the ICJ as “an American woman with a very doubtful record.”

No doubt antisemitism is on the rise and some deeply unpleasant people are utilising the concerns others have about the conflict in Gaza to fan those flames and hijack protests. They disgust me.
I am deeply concerned about the scale of human suffering in Palestine, but I do not hold antisemitic views at all. I am concerned that my concern for Palestine could be written off as hating Jews, when it isn't.

It won’t be written off. You are completely within your rights to express horror at the Israeli government and disagree vehemently with the atrocious behaviour going on. I find a lot of those who complain they’re being treated like antisemites are being antisemites. Your post is valid and fair.

Zodfa · 16/05/2024 22:30

It's a trendy thing to be vocal about. These things come and go. Periodically I find myself wondering if Black Lives still Matter. You couldn't move for that for a time and now nobody talks about it. Apparently it's only worth caring about something if everyone else cares as well. It's not clear much lasting improvement came out of the movement either. Lots of shouting but have the lives of black people actually improved?

People. Hate. Jews.

People.hate:
-children being murdered.
-children being starved
-children losing their families, their homes their education and consigned to a life with deep-seated trauma.
-women receiving no prenatel care and losing their babies.
-elderly people with tumours bursting because they received no medical attention.
-doctors, aid workers and journalists being murdered.
-neonatal babies with no chance of survival
-starving families being shot as they queued for food
-paramedics being shot as they attend the wounded.

There is no religion that gets a free pass to commit these atrocities for fear of being called biased against the religion.

But no one follows up with what will happen when the shooting stops .
What do people suggest Israelis do - as Hamas are determined to have no Israel- what should happen next. What do you think must happen next to solve this .
i don’t see any solution.

For me it’s completely this. Anger and fury on both sides, so who can ever win ( #itsnevertheordinarypeipleomtheground). Resentment and entrenchment and we’re all in danger.

And for those of us who want neither? I don’t want children bombed or starved to death. I don’t want children gunned down in their beds along with their parents. I don’t want teenagers taken from music festivals and shot and raped. I don’t want people peacefully sat at home then homes destroyed with nowhere safe to run. For those of us who don’t want that. For either “side”. Where is our voice?

silverneedle · 16/05/2024 23:31

Second of all, where the hell are you taking those statistics from? Don’t you know that between 6 May and 8 May, the UN cut in half its estimates of the number of women and children killed in Gaza. The estimates were based on Hamas numbers and are a reminder that all fatality estimates coming from that source are unreliable.

Nope. The UN has not halved estimates of the number of women and children killed in Gaza. The new numbers are of people whose bodies have been properly identified. There are estimated 10,000 bodies yet to be formally identified possibly because Israel blew them into parts. The figures of the fatalities remain the same.

They won't believe you@silverneedle . I tried they have decided that 8000 dead children is absolutely a grand number dead
@Fredshred surely what you are saying is the voice of the majority. I already stated on this thread I fully condemn Hamas and the actions of October 7th. Most people would much rather peace for both sides.

To clarify further, there are 34,745 reported deaths include more than 14,500 children & more than 9500 women. The number formally identified to date is less but still over half are women and children.

Maybe to express despair and disgust at this broken world. Maybe to show people around them with connections to Palestine that their families not forgotten. Maybe because they feel helpless. Maybe to spread awareness.
I've never seen anyone trying to make other people post the same things as them.

MyrrAgain · 16/05/2024 23:51

trekking1 · 15/05/2024 23:07

That's amazing, but I am talking specifically about generic #freePalestine posts that raise no money and attack people who don't post the same!

Um I dunno. How about 1. Propoganda and 2. Good old fashioned jewish hatred. For a start?
