To ask what on earth do people who post about Palestine expect to happen?

It seems that every time I log into social media there are so people constantly posting about how we need to free Palestine and condemning everyone who ignores their posts.

May I ask what do they expect posting about it will actually accomplish? Did I miss something and wars can be stopped with SM posts? If so, why are they not posting the same about Ukraine? There is still a war going on there...

But yes it’s BS to claim the men women and children marched into the ghettos were the ones to “turf Palestinians out their home”

@TakeMe2Insanity is claiming one of two things here

  1. No ‘ghetto’ Jews died in the Holocaust and they all emigrated to Israel and all behaved violently (even the children)
  2. Despite the fact most Jewish people who went in the ghettos did it survive WW2, they all came back from the dead and went to Israel and behaved violently.
She almost certainly claiming that there are no nuances and this is exactly how it happened with no other context or bigger picture whatsoever

The fact someone has come on a thread about has commented on a post about Jewish people being forced from their home and into ghettos and made a bullshit statement, tells me there’s another MN username to remember for any future threads. I wonder how many people make these comments then boo-hoo about “All I do is support Palestine and I’m called antisemitic waaaah” on another thread.

THAT’S what you picked up from my post?!

Why are you blaming murdered Jews for things they didn’t do? Because this is what you did - that’s where you went when I mentioned Jews being marched into the ghetto.

Why?

Read the post.

I am NOT blaming those killed by the Nazis.

I did not do that.

What you did is totally ignore the Palestinians right to be sat in their homes.

People can discuss what they like in a democracy like the UK but I and the UK and US support Israel in this conflict. The fact some people in the UK do not like that is fine by me - they can keep on not liking it.

I’m aware of the ‘Nakba’, thank you, but it still may be worth you looking up how the agreement to create Israel came about, what Palestine rejected beforehand, how land was legally obtained by Jewish people and how the antisemitic Arabs reacted with the thought of being in proximity with Jewish people.

I’m aware. I don’t think you can put the whole blame for the conflict on either side tbh. The Palestinians rejected the two state solution. The Israelis (as they became) accepted it but then took land that wasn’t legally theirs in a later war.

FFS you are making assumptions. Amazing you the crap that you can create. Make a point by all means but don’t go round setting out fabricated thoughts for me.

How about a new group “waaaah I deny the Palestinians right to exist?”

You literally did.

I was talking about Jewish people marched into gentries and your immediate and only response is “And then they fired the Palestinians out their home”

Im not sure if we need a better education system or if people need to do a bit more research but if people thought Palestinians were happy sitting in their home knitting and then Jewish people (and apparently the ghosts of Jewish people) descended and violently kicked them out their homes, and absolutely nothing else happened in between, no nuances, no relevant political persuasions and no threats - they really do need to pick up a history book. Is it laziness that you think it’s this black and white? Or does it just fit your narrative of the Evil Jew?

Again, it’s far more nuanced than that, and many Jewish people were murdered purely due to antisemitism.

The discussion around West Bank/East Jerusalem is an entirely different one from a different time. The fact some people think Jews just rocked up out of nowhere to a random country and started macheting Palestinians out their horns makes me deeply worried about our education system.

I’m really not making assumptions. You openly and clearly blamed random, most likely dead, persecuted Jews for an event that you have woefully mis-described.

Why?

To whom are you referring? And you’re accusing me of ‘creating crap’ 😂

FAR cooler to deny the Jewish people right to exist right?

YaMuvva · 17/05/2024 21:15

Honestly this trend for melodramatic flowery language (probably copied from a TikTok post) they think is hard hitting, couple with an an alarmingly incorrect knowledge of history, makes people sound so stupid.

what is with the current trend of “nO rIghT tO exIsT” at the moment? It’s used in the trans debate too. Not being wholly on your side with pure vehement hate for the other side, is not denying anyone’s right to exist. It’s just that other people’s views don’t align with theirs.

Well I don’t think I learned anything at all about the Middle East in school since you mention it but I know there were Zionists in Palestine before WW2 and I know why they chose to go there.

Not sure what you mean by the discussion around East Jerusalem/West Bank being for a different time? Surely it’s relevant?

I did, although I’m not sure what is taught these days (note to self: find out when DD goes to secondary in September)

What I mean is the WB/EJ issue has evolved through the years as opposed to on May 14th 1948. IIRC it was late 60’s? I’m not defending it but I’m just establishing the correct timeline.

But yes you are right that many Jewish people (not always Zionists in the sense you mean) legally emigrated through the formal process to Palestine prior to WW2 as many lives through the progroms and knew what was coming. There weren’t many options for European Jews when it came to emigrating and they took what they could get. Sadly there was also a lot of Jewish people who could not and did it predict what was about to happen to them and stayed put in the hope the war would end soon.

Sadly the emigrating Jews weren’t welcome at all not least because of the hatred Arabs felt towards the Jews and the Nazi friendship between Hitler and the very powerful Amin Al-Husseini - and many were brutally murdered. See pictures below that show the Grand Mufti nailing his colours to the mast when it came to his political persuasion. There were, in the time between the 20’s and 40’s lots of political Shenanigans happening behind the scenes that involved the UN and British. It’s very fascinating and worth a read.

Anyone peddling the implication that Jewish people descended on a Jew-loving country and started doing to them what was done to the Jews in WW2 are either lazy or bad faith actors. Or just plain old antisemitic who want to perpetuate the “evil thieving Jew” stereotype.

Yes but I’m not doing that am I? I realise my statement “I know why they chose to go there” was ambiguous so I’ll clarify I meant I know they wanted to create a homeland for Jewish people near Jerusalem.

oh goodness no not you! I didn’t mean you - apologies if that came across!

But I do mean other people and I see it all the time on MN and elsewhere

The history of the area is important, that said "we are where we are" right now and a way to end the tragic loss of life and find peace is paramount. October 7th was the start of this conflict, Israel is in an impossible situation. I don't know what the answer is to achieve lasting peace but I do now that discussion is needed in order to find a solution.
