Yes, I know I could have made it and plastic packaging is bad for the environment but because it's just me tonight, I picked up M & S Superfood Green Salad and their salmon fishcakes as a one-off - Wow! It tasted so fresh and moreish and I could happily live off the stuff forever.
I love salad foods and eat them year-round but usually stick to peppers/rocket/lettuce/cucumber/white cabbage/courgette/olives/beetroot and carrot kind-of-thing. Also, watermelon/mint/feta is a favourite.
I would love to know what other salad-loving MN's think is tasty and whether any other shops have amazing fresh salads to go? Need to know what else I am missing!

Hello, M&S Marketing Woman!

BCBird · 14/05/2024 19:43

That sounds good. I.maje my own Mon to Thursday usually. Have had the gluten free salmon fishcakes- yummy

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/05/2024 19:43

Yabu.

murasaki · 14/05/2024 19:43

Steak cut chips with that?

afrikat · 14/05/2024 19:44

I love the nutty super wholefood salad, sometimes get it with the honey smoked salmon. So good

Unopenedpackofmenssocks · 14/05/2024 19:45

Do you know what OP. I absolutely love that you are such a positive person that you wanted to post on MN about how delicious your salad was. However I predict that the next 5 responses will be:

  1. M&S is overpriced, I refuse to shop there
  2. M&S salads may be nice but their knickers are shit now.
  3. Was it in a plastic container? That is shocking OP, won’t you think about the planet?
  4. I can make the same salad for 25p using vegetables I grew myself. You are so lazy.
  5. Salmon? Disgusting. You should not eat animals.
CocktailQueenie · 14/05/2024 19:46

No, Mumsnet can check that I am definitely on the level, not a journo or MS worker, just genuinely surprised at how tasty this off-the-shelf salad is.

Oh no Grin

Oh no Grin

Unfortunately I get a Pavlov's dog response to M&S marketing threads 😅

CocktailQueenie · 14/05/2024 19:51

@Unopenedpackofmenssocks Yes, I totally understand but this was a one-off. I usually sprout my own mung beans/grow all veg on my miniscule patch/knit my own knickers with twigs and DH's pubes harvested from the bathroom floor😂

25p! You spendthrift. You should grow all your vegetables yourself. Let's just conveniently forget that this costs money and requires a huge input of time.

I love that salad OP. I get one every week with my Ocado order and have it over 2 days (bulked up with more boring lettuce / other veg & choice of protein). I think it’s probably my fave salad and a big part of the joy is I haven’t made it myself.

LMMuffet · 14/05/2024 19:57

I love the superfood green salad too! I buy one every week. I am not a salad person at all, so it must be good. How do they make it so tasty?!

I’d love to know and then make it for myself for 25p…

Yabu for posting such a vacuous post in aibu

soupfiend · 14/05/2024 19:58

I tell you what disappoints me these days, is that you cant easily find watercress, on its own, in supermarkets. Its nearly always in a bag with spinach and rocket. I dont mind spinach or rocket but dont want to eat as much as they put in the bag and actually I just want a little bunch of watercress.

Actually this thread has triggered me a bit, there was a thread recently about someone complaining that her friend went for lunch with her and only ordered a tomato salad, enthused about the tomato salad and apparently kept banging on about how petite she was

Now she shouldnt have kept banging on about how petite she was, but some of the incredibly bitchy posts on that thread about how could ANYONE enthuse about a tomato salad and someone ordering that is abormal/disordered eating, wheres the steak and chips (I see this one reared its head on here), teenie tinies etc etc. Horrible horrible posts.

I bloody love a tomato salad.

emergingfromthis · 14/05/2024 19:59

@CocktailQueenie Totally agree - I adore this salad and is genuinely the only premade one I buy - and yes, as a treat, as it is not cheap.

But no way could I put that range of ingredients together for just one or two of us without it taking ages and involving a fair amount of waste... And Yes, it does taste fresh and delicious and different.

So do continue to enjoy! And shout it from the roof tops!

StormingNorman · 14/05/2024 19:59

Sounds delish.

I’m into a sort-of Vietnamese style salad at the moment.

Glass noodles
Spring onions
Carrot
Cucumber
Radishes
Tomato
Mint
Coriander

Slice the vegetables super fine and dress it with:

A few drops of fish sauce
A few drops of rice vinegar
Half a lime
Little glug of oil

Prawns, chicken chunks, pork mince and/or peanuts on top to ring the changes.

Unopenedpackofmenssocks · 14/05/2024 20:00

Is it this one?

To tell you about the most delicious, healthy salad ever?
AppleKatie · 14/05/2024 20:02

😂😂😂it’s just me in tonight I think I’ll pick up a green salad…. We have nothing in common OP but you do you!

Xmasbaby11 · 14/05/2024 20:03

I love that salad! It really is so tasty, though I usually have it as a side with less healthy things like quiche!

Barneysmomma · 14/05/2024 20:03

Pret do an avocado & hot smoked salmon salad which is really delicious. Trouble is my nearest Pret is 30 miles away 🙁

clare8allthepies · 14/05/2024 20:06

@StormingNorman that sounds delicious!

I had a take out salad from M&S years ago (probably about 15 as pre kids) and it was so lovely I made a copy at home many times. Mixed salad leaves, cherry tomatoes, chicken breast chunks, croutons and Parmesan shavings. It had a pesto dressing that I used to mimic with a spoonful of pesto shaken up with some ready made French dressing. I’ve got some cooked chicken breast in the fridge for my lunch tomorrow, I think I’ll make that!

Mollyplop999 · 14/05/2024 20:09

CocktailQueenie harvested pubes 😂😂😂 Brilliant

CocktailQueenie · 14/05/2024 20:11

I thoroughly enjoyed it, have enough to mix with some rocket and watercress for lunch tomorrow.

I have never bought a supermarket ready-salad that I have enjoyed, they always taste synthetic but this stuff is really good.
