Yes, I know I could have made it and plastic packaging is bad for the environment but because it's just me tonight, I picked up M & S Superfood Green Salad and their salmon fishcakes as a one-off - Wow! It tasted so fresh and moreish and I could happily live off the stuff forever.
I love salad foods and eat them year-round but usually stick to peppers/rocket/lettuce/cucumber/white cabbage/courgette/olives/beetroot and carrot kind-of-thing. Also, watermelon/mint/feta is a favourite.
I would love to know what other salad-loving MN's think is tasty and whether any other shops have amazing fresh salads to go? Need to know what else I am missing!

Is it massive? Grin

MummyInTheNecropolis · 14/05/2024 20:18

I love a good salad. In the last few days I’ve had beetroot, feta and walnut salad, halloumi and pomegranate salad and tonight I had a scandi-style smoked mackerel and potato salad. Made them all myself, so quick and easy and filling too.

Steak cut chips with that?

(Sniggers.)

Expo23 · 14/05/2024 20:20

M&S bang bang noodle salad is so good.
I have added the salad you have written about to my order but I'm not convinced, it looks very... green!

Kitkatcatflap · 14/05/2024 20:22

That is a lovely salad, I have moved now but when I always pick up one of those at the airport to have on the train.

Trickabrick · 14/05/2024 20:23

I love the M&S Greek salad, will check out that green one now too!

Edenmum2 · 14/05/2024 20:23

It's great apart from the fact that they stuff it with coriander which makes it inedible

Oh no, that’s me out 😭

Blackcats7 · 14/05/2024 20:29

All salads just taste like grass to me so I won’t be trying it. I have a huge aversion to green food.

Jumbojem · 14/05/2024 20:31

Not tried that one but based on the good reviews will do soon. I love the M&S nutty wholefoods one. No M&S in my town anymore but if I travel for work I treat myself to a "better" meal deal lunch of the nutty salad along with olives with cheddar snack. Yum!
Keep meaning to make salads for work lunches but somehow never remember to prep in advance so will also do better and try some of the recipe suggestions here. Have to say the feta, watermelon and mint someone mentioned sounds delicious for a hot day. Love a basic mozzarella, tomato and basil salad too, with a good drizzle of oil and sprinkle of salt.

Yabu for posting such a vacuous post in aibu

Blimey, who's ripped your knitting?

soupfiend · 14/05/2024 20:34

Agree with other posters though that shop bought salad means that you can actually eat salad without chucking a fridge worth of stuff in the bin.

Hotttchoc · 14/05/2024 20:34

I hope you don't work for M&S

I do love some of the M&S repacked salads

The superfood one is good as are the grains & greens packs

bridgetreilly · 14/05/2024 20:37

Also not an M&S PR person, but I really like their avocado and feta salad, and their crayfish and mango salad.

I love that expression. Which is a new one to me…

My favourite bought salad ever was the discontinued Leon kale and peanut one. I’d have eaten that daily.

In France, I love those finely grated carrot salad with a thick vinaigrette. They tend to pollute it less with sultanas.

soupfiend · 14/05/2024 20:40

Shredded carrot with chilli, sesame oil, sesame seeds and crushed salted peanuts over it with shredded coriander and spring onion. Thats lovely

Very rarely make it as I end up with too much waste. OH wouldnt touch it.

FloatyBoaty · 14/05/2024 20:42

No YANBU OP.

I had to have train tea the other week and picked up one of those salads because it was yellow stickered and one of those chocolate meringue puddings they do (also yellow stickered) and it was the most enjoyable dinner I had all week. I hadn’t made it, it was all delicious, I didn’t have to wash up, and I didn’t have to clear up child-dropped mashed potatoes from the floor. All round win.

viccat · 14/05/2024 20:43

Last week I remembered the giant cous cous and lentil salad they used to sell a few years ago. Found a recipe online and recreated it, and it's so good!

PoppingTomorrow · 14/05/2024 20:52

I still think about a pre-packed salad I had at Barcelona Airport c 2001.

Wild rice, tomato, cucumber, walnut, feta, oregano, balsamic dressing, and probably some other things.

I like the m&s nutty super wholefood NOT with hummus.

Love a good (Asian) slaw - hard to re create at hone because what do I do with the other half of cabbage?

Love beetroot spinach goats cheese walnut lentils

Roast beg pearl barley chicken and rocket

Watermelon feta black olive

How can you call yourself a mumsnetter with that discusting attitude to a massive salad. I'm so shocked I'm literally shaking and crying here.

CocktailQueenie · 14/05/2024 19:51

@Unopenedpackofmenssocks Yes, I totally understand but this was a one-off. I usually sprout my own mung beans/grow all veg on my miniscule patch/knit my own knickers with twigs and DH's pubes harvested from the bathroom floor😂

Ohhh I love interesting salad. Hope to be near M&S tomorrow so will have a look. I like their fruity coleslaw with extra avocado and their bistro style salad with extra goat cheese.

By the way can you post a pattern for knickers when you are free from gardening/ recycling/ DIY jobs? I harvested a lot of pubes in the bathroom recently and wouldn’t mind extra income. 😉

I tell you what disappoints me these days, is that you cant easily find watercress, on its own, in supermarkets. Its nearly always in a bag with spinach and rocket. I dont mind spinach or rocket but dont want to eat as much as they put in the bag and actually I just want a little bunch of watercress.

Actually this thread has triggered me a bit, there was a thread recently about someone complaining that her friend went for lunch with her and only ordered a tomato salad, enthused about the tomato salad and apparently kept banging on about how petite she was

Now she shouldnt have kept banging on about how petite she was, but some of the incredibly bitchy posts on that thread about how could ANYONE enthuse about a tomato salad and someone ordering that is abormal/disordered eating, wheres the steak and chips (I see this one reared its head on here), teenie tinies etc etc. Horrible horrible posts.

I bloody love a tomato salad.

Sainsbury's do watercress on its own.

minipie · 14/05/2024 20:59

I’ve had to be at a hospital across lunch a fair bit recently and it has an M&S… I am now another Super Nutty Wholefood salad fan. It’s all beany and seedy with a really nice zingy dressing.

Anyone got a link to an interesting salad recipe online? Ideally tried and tested…
