Yes, I know I could have made it and plastic packaging is bad for the environment but because it's just me tonight, I picked up M & S Superfood Green Salad and their salmon fishcakes as a one-off - Wow! It tasted so fresh and moreish and I could happily live off the stuff forever.
I love salad foods and eat them year-round but usually stick to peppers/rocket/lettuce/cucumber/white cabbage/courgette/olives/beetroot and carrot kind-of-thing. Also, watermelon/mint/feta is a favourite.
I would love to know what other salad-loving MN's think is tasty and whether any other shops have amazing fresh salads to go? Need to know what else I am missing!

They might do but a) I dont shop in Sainsburys, I shop in lidl or aldi most of the time and b) despite not shopping in there, I was actually in there on Saturday AND today and no watercress.

AhBiscuits · 14/05/2024 21:02

I bought a salmon poke bowl in Lidl and it was so delicious. I want it for lunch everyday but will settle for once in a while.

I love M&S salads. Especially the ones I'd never make myself, with quinoa, fancy dressings and stuff. Mmm.

Do you know what OP. I absolutely love that you are such a positive person that you wanted to post on MN about how delicious your salad was. However I predict that the next 5 responses will be:

  1. M&S is overpriced, I refuse to shop there
  2. M&S salads may be nice but their knickers are shit now.
  3. Was it in a plastic container? That is shocking OP, won’t you think about the planet?
  4. I can make the same salad for 25p using vegetables I grew myself. You are so lazy.
  5. Salmon? Disgusting. You should not eat animals.

Ha! Indeed 🤣🤣🤣

MaryFuckingFerguson · 14/05/2024 21:19

If I go to the office, I often buy their nutty superfood salad. It’s so filling and completely delicious. I also love the 2 conscous salads they do.

CocktailQueenie · 14/05/2024 21:21

Thanks all for your suggestions, will try the nutty one, also they sell watercress in Asda too. I flipping love salad but also eat some UPF too 😉

Have just seen the salad thread on Chat, so many good ideas.

I love any salad as long as it’s massive.

Hello, M&S Marketing Woman!

🙄

Davros · 14/05/2024 21:43

@soupfiend I saw watercress in M&S yesterday but I agree, it's often hard to find. Delicious with a juicy steak and some bearnaise

StormingNorman · 14/05/2024 21:54

Unopenedpackofmenssocks · 14/05/2024 20:00

Is it this one?

This is a good one! Used to be a regular lunch when I worked next door to an M&S along with the giant couscous one.

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 14/05/2024 22:08

Looks yummy. Will grab one next time im in! 💚

Crabble · 14/05/2024 22:14

The watermelon and feta one is lovely. It’s really low calorie too and I have it when I do my fast days.

i used to love the orzo and tomato one but they changed the dressing a couple of weeks back and it’s not so good now.

Lumpalicious · 14/05/2024 22:23

Regrettably I cannot get excited about this amount of greenery.

But I will share what I can assure you is a most delicious salad recipe with some colour to it.

I replace the chicken with quorn fillets but this is obviously not mandatory.

Chicken & orange salad

With juicy oranges and a yoghurt dressing, this chicken salad is a treat on any spring table.

I also really like m and s salads but I can't access them at the moment.
I used to love their tuna nicose one and also they used to do the most amazing chicken breast.

Not a salad but I am very fond of their caramelised biscuit yumnut. Their chocolate truffles are also divine.

catlady7 · 14/05/2024 22:41

StormingNorman · 14/05/2024 19:59

Sounds delish.

I’m into a sort-of Vietnamese style salad at the moment.

Glass noodles
Spring onions
Carrot
Cucumber
Radishes
Tomato
Mint
Coriander

Slice the vegetables super fine and dress it with:

A few drops of fish sauce
A few drops of rice vinegar
Half a lime
Little glug of oil

Prawns, chicken chunks, pork mince and/or peanuts on top to ring the changes.

That sounds so good!

I'm obsessed with the poke bowl well was.. breastfeed and daughter has soya allergy so can't have them anymore atm.

I suspect any salads you've tried in the past were not massive enough. Other than that, thanks for the recommendations!

therealcookiemonster · 14/05/2024 23:03

@CocktailQueenie i also like their wholefood nutty salad and their crayfish and mango noodle salad + their salmon with spinach/cucumber.

my fav salad is shaved fennel dressed with a mix of dijon, orange and lemon juice, white wine vinegar, salt, agave and lots of fresh chopped dill. I top with orange segments. I eat this by the bowl full in the summer

also love a nice salmon nicoise. where I replace the tuna with a pan fried piece of salmon.

nodogz · 14/05/2024 23:14

Yeah it is bloody delicious that salad so please tell me why m&s has included sodding WHEAT in every salad now. It doesn't need it and I'm pretty sure it didn't use to be in there.

I'm just jealous!

nodogz · 14/05/2024 23:17

Same with the beetroot and goats cheese. Delicious lunch RUINED by wheat.

I also like those prawn salads but wish there was no pasta because again I can tolerate most things apart from gluten

BurnerName1 · 14/05/2024 23:17

I love this salad too, stop telling people about it or they won't have any next time I go in 😁

Mumoftwo1316 · 14/05/2024 23:23

Ahh op you've made me smile.

In the Ladybird Classics version of Rapunzel, it starts with a woman craving salad. A witch next door grows her own salad and the woman craves and pines for this salad "I must have that salad or I'll die". She starts to waste away. Eventually her husband climbs over the wall at night to steal some. His wife tastes it and it's even better that she expects and she refuses to eat anything else. Her husband goes to steal more. The witch catches him this time and agrees to give him the salad if he will give her their first born child (!) And he agrees! And then Rapunzel is born and given to the witch.

I read this to dc at bedtime and I'm thinking "who loves salad that much?!"

Mumsnetters, that's who...!
