Yes, I know I could have made it and plastic packaging is bad for the environment but because it's just me tonight, I picked up M & S Superfood Green Salad and their salmon fishcakes as a one-off - Wow! It tasted so fresh and moreish and I could happily live off the stuff forever.
I love salad foods and eat them year-round but usually stick to peppers/rocket/lettuce/cucumber/white cabbage/courgette/olives/beetroot and carrot kind-of-thing. Also, watermelon/mint/feta is a favourite.
I would love to know what other salad-loving MN's think is tasty and whether any other shops have amazing fresh salads to go? Need to know what else I am missing!

One of my favourite salads in the Summertime is Baby Spinach & Strawberry Salad:

Baby Spinach
Sliced Strawberries
Toasted sliced almonds
Croutons
(optional - sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds)
Rasberry vinaigrette (I’ve bought it in Sainsbury’s - and in the past possibly ASDA?)

Panera Bread (an American cafe/bakery chain) is currently offering a slightly different version:

Strawberry Poppyseed Salad (with optional chopped Chicken breast)
Romaine Lettuce
Sliced Strawberries
Fresh blueberries
Mandarin oranges (from a tin can)
Fresh pineapple (cut into chunks)
Toasted pecan nuts
Poppyseed Dressing (not sure where this can be found in the UK? Maybe Wholefoods or delis)

I suspect any salads you've tried in the past were not massive enough. Other than that, thanks for the recommendations!

😂

I am SO disapointed in it. I only bought it today because of this thread and now I feel like it's one lunch time I'll never get back.

CocktailQueenie · 17/05/2024 17:10

@greenclawsgrowsthem I am so sorry! I went back to get more today and they had sold out of the nutty one. And I forgot to pick up fishcakes ☹️

I still don’t understand which salad you actually mean? I can only find “super green salad” online, and it has no nuts?

CocktailQueenie · 17/05/2024 20:44

There is a super green, also a nutty one which is another super food one

@CocktailQueenie which fish cakes did you get? I’m heading to M & S today and thought I might try out your combination. 🙂

Roasted squash, lentils and goats cheese yesterday, lovely.

Can't find it on their website but it was this one.

Fine, I'll go to M&S. I'm out of wine and Percy Pigs anyway.

@Unopenedpackofmenssocks Yes, I totally understand but this was a one-off. I usually sprout my own mung beans/grow all veg on my miniscule patch/knit my own knickers with twigs and DH's pubes harvested from the bathroom floor😂

😂

@JingsMahBucket The salmon ones

You've inspired me, OP! I've ordered both the salads mentioned on this thread for my next Ocado delivery, which is a bit of an extravagance for me, but I'm justifying it on the grounds that if I bought all the ingredients to make them there could end up being waste or I'd eat enormous helpings just to get rid of it.

On the other hand, the mention of fishcakes has led me to contemplate making some, for the first time in ages. I'm going to use this recipe: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/ultimate-fish-cakes

So that's a good chunk of meal planning for next week done already.

Ultimate fish cakes recipe | Good Food

Try Angela Nilsen's best ever fishcakes. She went in search of perfection and the results are flakey, golden, and filled with delicious fish. Serve with green salad and a good squeeze of lemon

I fancied trying the green salad but when I did an Ocado order just now it wasn't available - maybe there's been a surge of MNers buying it and we've exhausted the supply! 😄

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 20/05/2024 19:59

OP, I just remembered you asked about other salads. I recently had a chicken and chorizo salad from the Co-op, it came with patatas bravas (my autocorrect did not like that! 😄) and an aioli dressing. Not the most slimming salad, I'll concede 😄 but tasted blooming lovely and made a nice lunch on its own without anything needing to be added.
