To think that most people pee in the pool, on holiday? Do you?

Just back from a hot holiday. Hotel had a lovely big pool, with a swim up bar serving all manner of cocktails, wine, beer etc. People would be in the pool for hours drinking, chatting etc. Surely everyone is actually peeing in the pool? And do you?

Why ? Why don't you do it in both and why not poo as well. I just want to understand why one is acceptable and not the other.

You don't see the difference in a wee in the sea and a poo?? Are you ok?

shearwater2 · 15/05/2024 04:50

I do go to the loo when I need a wee but sometimes swimming/the effect of water still makes me wee, as does getting in the shower. So.yes, in small amounts.

Grimchmas · 15/05/2024 04:59

I'm less grossed out by the thought of people weeing in a swimming pool that has filters and chemicals than I am about swimming in the sea around the UK that has had raw untreated sewerage being pumped into it for a few years now 😷I have a few friends who enjoy wild swimming all year around on different parts of the coast and they all just accept getting ill from polluted water a few times a year as their new norm 😳 wtf.

happypickle · 15/05/2024 05:50

Sadly I think most people do

Eurgh!!

Eurgh to what? The fact that the world is literally full of germs?! Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings!

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 15/05/2024 06:23

No!!!!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 15/05/2024 06:26

Eewww no and nor does my daughter

donkeyleg · 15/05/2024 06:29

No way! Even my 2 and 3 year olds ask to go to the toilet when in the pool.

BernardBlacksBreakfastWine · 15/05/2024 06:29

coupdetonnerre · 14/05/2024 23:14

Why - please explain why one is ok and the other isn't? I wouldn't do either. May as well poo.

Are you seriously being squeamish about there being a bit of pee in the sea? This is what I meant about performative revulsion.

So if, say, you go swimming off the coast of Portugal in the Atlantic Ocean, which is an unbelievably vast body of water full of marine life and countless, you know, ships and things… a couple of hundred ml of urine is the deal-breaker for you? What did you think you were swimming in?!

TubeScreamer · 15/05/2024 06:47

No. - never!

the though that others might would put me off ever going in one again.

Fairydustandsparklylights · 15/05/2024 07:02

All of this outrage… I bet a lot more people do it than are willing to admit. Loads in fact.

BernardBlacksBreakfastWine · 15/05/2024 07:05

@TubeScreamer

the thought that others might would put me off ever going in one again.

So you’re saying you’re never going in a pool again? Because people definitely do this! There’s no ‘would’ about it.

Possibly. But I don't piss in swimming pools and find that people who do a bit scummy.

My version of holiday hell is a large hotel pool with hundreds of sun loungers around it and an equal number of people in the water. Yuk

localnotail · 15/05/2024 07:50

coupdetonnerre · 15/05/2024 00:02

Why won't you do it now - if peeing is acceptable what's wrong with pooing?

OMG what is wrong with you??? I understand you are now arguing for the sake of arguing but here it goes. I'll explain if you were an alien not familiar with human body functions.

I can assure you people would poo in the see if the poo did not float up and follow you around like a tiny little stinking pet. No one can see if you wee while standing waist deep in water (that's why people wee in the pools, if it was visible no one would do it). But everyone would see you poo as you poo literally would be popping up from under water. Also, pooing requires a bit of an effort which also makes it very obvious what you are up to. Unlike if you wee, you could just stand there with a straight face admiring the scenery. And this is why people would pee everywhere they see fit but poo only somewhere no one can see them doing it. I hope this clears it up for you.

I pooped in the see when I was about 6 or 7 - we were doing a "wild" holiday in Crimea, away from the beaten track - swimming in a very shallow sea about 20 minutes away from the shore, with no other people around us. I just could not hold it. It was an equally gross and hilarious experience.

How does this make a difference? Do you think they drain it and refill when the guests changeover? I don't.

You pay to get it cleaned and done pre arrival 😉

Cattyisbatty · 15/05/2024 07:55

No way!

nothingsforgotten · 15/05/2024 08:18

I wouldn't dream of it!! How hard is it to get out and find a loo? It wouldn't occur to me that anyone would wee in a pool.

Tamigotxh · 15/05/2024 08:43

BernardBlacksBreakfastWine · 14/05/2024 22:41

This is what I thought; you point out that pools are fairly yucky anyway and people say “Oh I never go in the pool!” But I’ve literally never met anyone who goes to the trouble of going on a pool holiday and avoiding the pool 😂

Did people say it’s a “pool holiday”? Not exactly sure what that is tbh, i’m assuming perhaps an all-inclusive with a pool is considered a “pool holiday”?

My trip to SE Asia last month was very adventurous - there just happened to be a pool in some of the hotels I stayed in!

It’s the same for many people I’m sure. I was out most of the day doing all kinds of activities, and sightseeing and I suspect others were too.

The pool - or restaurant- wasn’t busy at all whenever I walked past it.

For many of us the pool isn’t why we’ve booked a certain hotel so it’s not unbelievable at all we wouldn’t use it .

You think they drain and refill a swimming pool between each guest? 🤣

Tamigotxh · 15/05/2024 08:56

oh dear we have now reached the stage of this argument where some are pretending this is an Ok and not selfish thing to do. Or that everyone who is disgusted is exaggerating or secretly doing it themselves.
Nope!. Look if you do it - just own it but don’t assume “everyone” else is doing.

It’s disgusting and inconsiderate. And I don’t even know why you’d be happy swimming in your own pee - i wouldn’t piss in my own bath then sit then happily 😆 but hey it takes all sorts.

I typically do more adventurous or sightseeing trips or spend my time lying on the beach and eating and drinking basically if it’s a beach holiday . My holidays are not centred around pools but some peoples are and that’s OK - they should be able to swim without thinking a significant amount of pool-goers are pee-ing but that unfortunately sounds like the reality 😵‍💫 not sure when I intend to go swimming in my local pool next though 😆 wonder if that’s better or worse and can they give me their cleaning timetable so I can turn up when it’s freshly cleaned (joking btw!)

Doseofreality · 15/05/2024 08:57

Shade17 · 15/05/2024 08:52

They do if you pay for it to be done.

Danfromdownunder · 15/05/2024 09:00

I wee in the sea and the shower. Never in an enclosed pool. Are you in Bali OP? That’s super common there.

Doseofreality · 15/05/2024 07:54

It is more the case that there will just be a routine cleaning/chemical schedule.

I doubt it is done just for the new guests arriving to have a clean pool. They need to kept at the correct levels of ph/chlorine/alkalinity etc all the time.

Doseofreality · 15/05/2024 08:57

They are not draining the pool for each guest arrival!

Yes, but apparently baby/toddler wee is fragrant as perfume, sterile even after days, and totally acceptable.

I think it is more that there is only a teaspoonful of it at a time, whereas an adult could produce an entire cupful.
