To think you can't put a toilet outside someone's bedroom?

House on the left is having work done.

House on the right has no involvement in the work.

AIBU to think you can't just put a random portaloo above someone's front door and outside their bedroom window?

They are taking the piss and more.......😂

😆

This is high level eejitery.
This can't be right!
It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

shenandoahvalley · 10/05/2024 18:49

I actually gasped when I clicked to see your photo OP. That’s shocking!

Id have gone ballistic if I were the house on the right. Unbelievable!

Longma · 10/05/2024 18:52

Speak to the neighbours and ask them for it to be moved.

Our builders placed a portaloo on our drive. The nearest neighbours complained as it was visible from their drive (open gardens/drives) and they didn't like it being so close.

Whilst we could have left it we didn't. Tbh I didn't really want a portaloo in the front drive either. We had no idea they were getting one at all either. We just told the builders to use our downstairs toilet instead.

BreakingAndBroke · 10/05/2024 18:54

Outrageous!

I wouldn't have an issue with it, it's only temporary and people need to poop.

It will smell, especially in the warm weather.

I'd be surprised to find many people who'd genuinely be fine with a smelly toilet right outside their window and right above their front door!

ChishiyaBat · 10/05/2024 18:59

Anyone saying they wouldn't care that there is a toilet right above their front door&outside their bedroom window can't be serious surely!

lanthanum · 10/05/2024 19:00

Is it on the road/pavement or private land? I think you need permission for anything on the public highway.

We had this one, but not quite so badly. The portaloo was on the building site, but each morning they were moving it to immediately in front of the (elderly) neighbour's window (no pavement). I contacted the council and the building company, and in the meantime we parked our car outside her window in the evening until they'd put the portaloo in front of the building site each morning, so that she could have her view back.

Builders put portable toilet on the first floor of scaffolding https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2948919/You-wouldn-t-want-walk-Builders-portable-toilet-floor-scaffolding-pavement.html?ito=nativesharee_article-nativemenubutton

Sorry it's DM; but not the first time

Of course not. Anyone saying it wouldn't bother them is talking shit.

I'm sure some people on here would argue black was white just to be contrary.

Mygosh · 10/05/2024 20:11

Oh lord, those things don't smell pretty. Imagine working on that site and having to go toilet 🤣🤣

Starseeking · 10/05/2024 20:12

Allshallbewell2021 · 10/05/2024 19:00

At least the one in your article has been placed in front of the house being worked on; siting the one in OP's picture where it is is is completely out of order.

Note to self: If any neighbours ever ask to put scaffolding across my property, I will say five, as long as you are not using it to place a portal op on! That is so grim, not to mention it looks like a health & safety hazard.

Austrocock · 10/05/2024 20:25

Portaloos fucking stink.
I would definitely complain about that. It's right outside the bedroom window. What a bloody cheek.

ApolloandDaphne · 10/05/2024 20:40

That is literally shit. Complain away!

Delia123 · 10/05/2024 21:05

Sympathy for you. Had a similar experience with scaffolders doing work next door. Thankfully no toilet but, most importantly, having the scaffolding directly under our bedroom window when we were out at work invalidated our house insurance. We also live in rather a dodgy area and it didn't feel safe at night. Had to threaten to sue to get them to shift it. Well, having done a scaffolding course many years ago, I was ready to spend my weekend dismantling it but DP wouldn't let me. 😂

SD1978 · 10/05/2024 21:16

Nope, no friggin way, although I also don't know how you force them to move it, but I wouldn't not be up for a stinking port aloo outside and leaving against my house, if I'm not the one having work done!

SD1978 · 10/05/2024 21:17

And that scaffolding aoorrars to purely be for the toilet, so not needed. I would be rescuing in permission for the scaffolding ASAP

Famfirst · 10/05/2024 21:19

Honestly don't see the problem it's not going to be there forever.

If you're that bothered just let them use your toilet then they won't need to bother with the portaloo

It's not even her builders or her work... Just her bedroom, her window, her house hygiene...

Don't be ridiculous, how can a toilet outside your window balanced on scaffolding boards ever be OK. They can use a public toilet or be given access to the house to use the toilet or put the portaloI. In the back garden.

Tooski · 10/05/2024 21:28

OMG. Move it or I’ll open my window and it’ll fall off…

PrincessOfPreschool · 10/05/2024 21:40

Oh dear. Now it's the weekend (a hot one). Hope you can get it sorted. I would speak to the builders (and ask why it's not on the road and how long it's going to be there for) rather than the building owners. But if the builders are difficult, go to the owners of the property and tell them it's not acceptable.

You don't see the problem... Of course you do.

Why would the OP let them use her toilet it's not her building work and no rational person would think that was an appropriate response.

I have no doubt you would be complaining if it was outside your bedroom window.

Ispywithmylittlepie · 10/05/2024 22:03

I would seriously go mad over this. Sort of thing my cheeky bastard neighbours would do. Hope you get it sorted.

Allshallbewell2021 · 10/05/2024 19:00

I don't know how, but when I tried to read the linked article I ended up reading about a maths teacher having sex with 2 of her pupils. Clean forgot all about the offending portaloo ...

SausageinaBun · 10/05/2024 22:05

This reminds me of being a kid, when your sibling hovers their hand about an inch from your face and when you object says, "what? I'm not touching you!"
