To think you can't put a toilet outside someone's bedroom?

House on the left is having work done.

House on the right has no involvement in the work.

AIBU to think you can't just put a random portaloo above someone's front door and outside their bedroom window?

Speak to your council as well. Thats outrageously cheeky.

SwingTheMonkey · 10/05/2024 12:42

So it’s your window op?!

Jesus Christ!

Do you know the neighbours?

tennesseewhiskey1 · 10/05/2024 12:43

FFS ! Outrageous!

Princesspollyyy · 10/05/2024 12:44

That's beyond stupid. It needs to be removed immediately. Why isn't it just on the ground?

AnxiousRabbit · 10/05/2024 12:47

I can see WHY they have done it that way....but someone should have engaged with the owners of the other house before doing it. Legal or otherwise you work with neighbours not against them.
The H&S risk of the portaloo being above the door concerns me....the weight. The moving it in and out of position, the emptying etc

GadgetDog · 10/05/2024 12:47

I've seen some funny ways to get around portaloo permissions before (I work for a local authority) but this is crackers!

They need to apply - and pay - for permission to put the loo on the street. Not the pavement - it must be on the road. It's the same as a skip.

Actually, I wonder if they'll try and put a skip up there too...

caringcarer · 10/05/2024 12:47

SapphosRock · 10/05/2024 11:36

They definitely haven't given permission

Then they can ask for it to be removed.

Newbutoldfather · 10/05/2024 12:48

I would be looking for Jeremy Beadle (or similar) to pop out of the loo and declare you are on some wind-up show!

How can anyone think that is ok? And how the hell did they get it up there?

Unless they got your permission for the scaffold, it is trespass. Tell them clearly to remove it. Unfortunately trespass is a civil offence so you can’t call the police but I would tell them to remove it within a couple of days or you will seek legal action and they will be paying the costs.

fruitbrewhaha · 10/05/2024 12:50

Don’t contact the scaffolders, you need to speak to your neighbours. Just go and talk to them and their builders, it will be the main contractor who has decided to put it there, not the scaffolders.

If Jeremy Beadle pops out of that portaloo you'll have bigger things to worry about than a bit of scaffolding... 😱

How is it trespass? It is on a footpath, not their property. Access and egress need to be maintained, but the council will have given permission for the scaffolding to be placed on their pavement (hopefully or not...).

LauderSyme · 10/05/2024 13:30

Well, as evidenced by the photo, obviously you can but you really, really shouldn't ! Outrageous.

Of course it's OP's window, I suspect that's why they're invested enough to start a thread.

Ilovemyshed · 10/05/2024 13:32

Waiting for the drip feed that its OP's house.

Really no need to be bitchy, people start threads on behalf of friends all the time.

LauderSyme · 10/05/2024 13:35

I didn't intend to be bitchy at all! Just factual about my opinion. I really must work on my tone. Apologies.

eurochick · 10/05/2024 13:37

That's dreadful. If my house was in the right the loo would have been pushed over the railing by now. Cheeky fuckers.

Mostlycarbon · 10/05/2024 14:09

That's nuts! I would be tempted to reach out of the window and push it over. Not with someone in it.

longdistanceclaraclara · 10/05/2024 14:19

That'll be delightful if it falls on the way down when full...

I don't get the logic, it should be on the drive, of the house having work done

longdistanceclaraclara · 10/05/2024 14:20

Just realised straight onto pavement so that wouldn't work but still no. Are there back gardens?

ILikePistachios · 10/05/2024 14:23

I wouldn't have an issue with it, it's only temporary and people need to poop.

Irridescantshimmmer · 10/05/2024 14:26

Tell them to get the toilet on the ground or they will be charged rent for it.

In no time, the property whose window the offending article is next to will be stinking of sewage and other vile stuff and will attract flies, especially in the heat of summer.

It needs to be on the ground and not blocking light.

Well not everyone has a drive, and it's clear that the front doors open onto the pavement.

I don't think OP is asking for solutions. Unless she placed the loo there, the positioning is someone else's responsibility, and not one for the MN collective to resolve.

Nicole1111 · 10/05/2024 14:31

I can’t believe your neighbour didn’t even warn you about this, let alone get permission. Definitely get on the scaffolding company as a priority. They are taking the piss.

CharlotteBog · 10/05/2024 14:32

They are taking the piss and more.......😂
