To think that everything Fiona Harvey said in her Piers Morgan interview was a lie? [Edit by MNHQ]

Having watched her interview this evening, everything about her screamed 'liar'. Her language, her demeanor, her body language. I just wonder what other think?

I don’t be watching it. I could cope with the lightly-anonymised Baby Reindeer, but I’d prefer to not know more about her in real life. She’s clearly a troubled individual and it’s a poor choice to do an interview with PM; I find it unethical or at least a dubious journalistic endeavour to expose her further.

Can it still be seen on YouTube?

Yes

We decided to take this down as it is not in the spirit of the site.

That's an interesting stat. Do you have a link for it?

Well she certainly took a strong position. Whether or not the court records can be produced will be interesting.

This is what I was thinking. I've seen half her interview but haven't seen Baby Reindeer yet.

It all hinges on two things that can be proved, doesn't it? The emails - does he have evidence of them? The prison sentence - she said she was never in court.

The other things are harder to prove, I think, but those two should be easy.

Trez1510 · 09/05/2024 21:54

@Saltyswee forgot to include child benefit and Scotland's Additional Child Payment in that list of benefits.

It'll give you the chance to calculate like-for-like percentages across GB&NI.

HTH.

@Trez1510

Scottish Government. Yes, that includes all benefits you posted. 11% of tax payers pay 70% of income tax.

Because Scotland is stagnant, wages are stagnant and the tax burden is too high higher earners are driven out and there is no trickle down.

Those in employment should not have to rely on benefits, but the economy is sure. We should be able to support those who cannot work and those that want to work/able to work should able to and it should allow them to be in a better financial pot than those who are not working. That way we support those who need it.

@Jerusalemaa her real account is not private. And it's clearly the real one as the posts go back for years and years

I do mean Fiona Harvery, which I realised as soon as I posted it but unfortunately cannot work out how to edit the heading.

Click on the 'three dots' at top right hand corner, the last option on the drop down menu is 'edit'

SabreIsMyFave · 09/05/2024 22:17

Not sure what to make of it. I'm about 15 minutes into the interview at the moment. She does seem to be lying. I can't quite work out what it is, but I don't believe most of what she says. She claims she has never seen the show (Baby Reindeer,) and she doesn't know where he lives, she never went near his girlfriend, she never upset his parents. I don't believe her.

But as a few posters have said, you think Pierce would have found out some actual concrete evidence that she definitely sent all those emails and the like, and confronted her with it.

He doesn't seem to know much or have much evidence of anything. He just keeps asking her questions. She is a very odd person, and the actress playing her in Baby Reindeer got her down to a T.

CranfordScones · 09/05/2024 22:19

I didn't watch the programme or the Nexflix series.

From my reading, everything strongly points to her needing help. It seems cruel and exploitative to interview her or speculate on her 'complicated' worldview.

AmusedMaker · 09/05/2024 22:22

I can’t believe she hasn’t watched the actual program? I mean, if you suspected a major Netflix ‘real life’ drama had you as a central character, how could you not watch it?

Apparently he said the jail part was made up for Netflix. Which I find bizarre when it’s supposed to be based on a true story.

I do think she is lying though. Having 6 emails and 4 phones…

But I think Piers focusing on a degree classification - which I’m assuming an ordinary degree doesn’t have, didn’t therefore work out.

I also don’t get why he didn’t have more evidence about the IP address of the emails etc

Misthios · 09/05/2024 22:29

LiterallyOnFire · 09/05/2024 21:55

An ordinary degree in Scotland is one year less than an honours degree, I think. So they were at cross purposes on that one. I suspect an ordinary degree up there doesn't attract an overall grade classification, but I'm sure a Scots MNer will be able to clarify.

That's right.

An Honours degree course in Scotland is 4 years and you get a grade - 1st, 2:1 etc. If you only do 3 years you can leave with an ordinary degree which is pass/fail and is not graded.

Yeah I can't bring myself to believe her. IMO, she has definitely watched the show.

Also, this show has gone from half a million views to a 1.2 million views in about half an hour!

Dabralor · 09/05/2024 22:30

Piers Morgan's inbox had better be braced for the incoming tide of emails now.

This was like watching an actual baby reindeer being stalked by a rabid media hyena. Managed 10 mins.

I reckon this is literally series 2 and it's a Charlie Brooker episode of black mirror.

Yes, they were definitely at cross purposes. I've a 3 year degree from Scotland, so no Honours and therefore no classification. It was just a pass or fail. So she wasn't wrong with not being able to answer that as she would have only got a pass.

This was the only bit she wasn't lying about. The rest....

Dramatic · 09/05/2024 22:34

I think the problem is that some things in the series were made up, so maybe it wasn't quite that many emails, she didn't go to prison etc etc so in her eyes it's complete fiction. I can imagine Gadd has probably exaggerated things for dramatic effect which will make Fiona Harvey think she didn't do any of it because it didn't happen in exactly the same way as in the series.

She made most of her photos private ahead of this interview, I am guessing they advised her not to post anything for few days. Her real account was never open for comments. The popular one with the exaggerated style of writing is a fake account and comments are open to the public, thats the account that called PM a bully.

BashfulClam · 09/05/2024 22:39

Very intelligent according to her but can’t pronounce ‘Hyperbole’ correctly. It’s not ‘hyper-bowl’ it’s ’hyper-bolay’!

Changingplace · 09/05/2024 22:40

BustyMcgoober · 09/05/2024 21:53

Reddit are saying it’s a Black Mirror episode in real life. Which pretty much nails it I think.

Completely agree, I worry that neither her nor Richard Gadd are actually being supported in any way through this and Netflix have shown no duty of care to either of them, it’s awful and I dread to think how it might end.

I wonder if Gadd thought he’d fictionalised the Martha character beyond recognition because it’s based on a mixture of different people? So some of it she won’t recognise because it’s not all her?

CobsCabs · 09/05/2024 22:46

Did we find out the real name of the toy that the title Baby Reindeer came from?

Thegoodbadandugly · 09/05/2024 22:49

I couldn't believe anything she said as she kept tripping over herself.

TinaYouFatLard · 09/05/2024 22:50

I think if Piers Morgan does have evidence it would have been too much and too cruel (even for him) to confront her live on air. I expect he allowed her to dig her own hole and will provide proof in subsequent episodes to keep people tuning in.
