There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

I am still reeling from the fact this is not illegal! Haven't we spent millennia warring over land borders?! So it would seem to be deeply ingrained that we want to protect our own little bits of land from invaders.

Why on earth haven't we made laws that stop CFs parking on random driveways. Or at least made sure it is legal to retaliate!!

Honestly I know you are all excited by the prospect of a barney, but this has wrecked me. And the barney will probably be deeply unsatisfying because the CF probably knows it's not illegal, there's nothing op can do and will probably call the police on her for blocking him in (it will be a him of course) and she'll be the loser in it all because no one has legislated to stop CFs in this situation!!!

It depends if you would get a ticket for parking across a drive (even if it is your own drive). We do here and the traffic wardens will walk all around the streets looking, as it is easy pickings.

I wasn't aware of that: I park across my own drive all the time. I'll have to cross my fingers that the traffic wardens never come up here.

justasking111 · 05/05/2024 16:00

We've the Victorian Extravaganza this weekend, the CFs have parked on lawns before now and walked into town. Stay where you are @bubblesforbreakfast

Henrysotherwoman · 05/05/2024 16:00

Bursting for the update. I'd be incensed with rage.

GrandHighPoohbah · 05/05/2024 16:00

I am here for the updates. I love a village parking drama!

Jc2001 · 05/05/2024 16:01

I for one would contribute to any crowdfunding to cover any fine for parking across your own driveway way, as long as we get to hear what happens. 😁

Chilliandbanana · 05/05/2024 16:01

Well done Op. Looking forward to the update later!

WallaceinAnderland · 05/05/2024 16:02

If they are there when you get home, just tut at the car blocking your drive and deny all knowledge of who owns it. How long until you need it again? Hopefully it can stay there all weekend.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 05/05/2024 16:02

Your DD is very clever ! Can't wait for the update 🍿

Surely its someone you know? Nobody is CFery enough to park on a random driveway in the real world are they?

You'd be surprised.

We had parents parking our driveway whilst waiting to pick up their kids.

Ellie1015 · 05/05/2024 16:05

Well done Op! Enjoy fete.

KnitnNatterAuntie · 05/05/2024 16:05

Just hoping that your village doesn't have 'Midsomer' as part of it's name and that none of the Barnaby family are attending your fete . . . . .

madameparis · 05/05/2024 16:07

You legend @bubblesforbreakfast
Shamelessly placemarking for the update. Agree with all others - you absolutely cannot move the car until tomorrow due to being over the drink drive limit. If they knock on your door tell them to come back at 11am tomorrow. And call the police if they try to kick off.

ilovesooty · 05/05/2024 16:09

There'll be a form online to report it. Have you filled that in? I reported some antisocial parking on my street this week and a PCSO turned up to speak to the people involved and make sure they moved their cars, and they weren't even on anyone's drive.

Whatifthehokeycokey · 05/05/2024 16:09

Ooo I think we had a similar one of these a while ago. OP deliberately had a drink so they couldn't move their car.

troppibambini6 · 05/05/2024 16:10

Good for you op absolute CF enjoy that warm white wine!

PeonyAndBlushSuede · 05/05/2024 16:11

Good for you OP! Enjoy the wine

A brief update (no conclusion yet sorry)

  1. We left the car as per diagram. Took plenty of photos of both cars.
  2. I am settled in at the fete, in a slightly damp gazebo drinking slightly warm white wine with friends. We are reading through all these comments and having a massive giggle. Everyone loves a drama.
  3. We didn't leave a note as my DD quite craftily pointed out - they don't know it's our car, they probably think we're a fellow CF (I've paraphrased, but genuinely proud of her deviousness)
I will post again later x

Good point, DH! And cheeky parker doesn't even get to be angry about it! Because that would make them a hypocrite. Love it. Do stay out late.

NerrSnerr · 05/05/2024 16:12

Enjoy your drink OP. Hope you have a good afternoon.

Vitriolinsanity · 05/05/2024 15:39

Are you in a village starting with M OP?

If she is, I hope it's not Midsummer, as I would fear for the life of the CF 😂

wompwomp · 05/05/2024 16:13

daffodilandtulip · 05/05/2024 14:46

@suburburban because they had no tax or mot. I didn't tolerate it but I tried everything and you can't do anything about it.

Couldn't you get some big men to shift to to the road at night vans deny any knowledge?

whynotwhatknot · 05/05/2024 16:13

finally i caught a live one-enjoy your wine op!

Nicole1111 · 05/05/2024 16:13

The thread of dreams 😂

OriginalUsername2 · 05/05/2024 16:14

Shamefully marking for updates 😆

Yes,i think there were two car's on the OP's drive and her friend had told them it was okay to park there or something.
