There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

Well now I’m invested.

Funkadoodledoo · 05/05/2024 15:45

Here for the update 😁

NotARealWookiie · 05/05/2024 15:45

Ooh I love a CF thread and I love a parking thread. Might pour myself a wine and settle in!

nancyastor · 05/05/2024 15:46

I live for these sort of threads 😁

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/05/2024 15:47

These are my favourite kind of parking thread!

Hope you’re having a lovely afternoon @bubblesforbreakfast . There’s something quintessentially English Village Fete about drinking warm white wine in a big tent!

Matronic6 · 05/05/2024 15:49

I'm oddly invested in the outcome.

longdistanceclaraclara · 05/05/2024 15:49

I am very invested in what happens later!

Dontsparethehorses · 05/05/2024 15:49

I’m just sad it’s not as sunny as it is here OP- have a lovely day!

VeraForever · 05/05/2024 15:50

Place marking for the update.

namemane · 05/05/2024 15:50

Pressure wash your drive. Always makes a mess of any nearby car.

Jewelanemone · 05/05/2024 15:51

Very excited about this. It's exactly what I'd have done too. Cheers OP, enjoy all that lovely warm wine 😘

isthesolution · 05/05/2024 15:52

Made me laugh. How insanely rude of them!

In our old house our garage and drive were attached to next doors. When my mother first visited she assumed our drive was a double garage/drive and parked on their side. Could it be something alone these lines?

If they've genuinely just parking on someone else's drive and decided that's acceptable I'd be inclined to leave them blocked in all night!

BlaHaHa · 05/05/2024 15:53

Oh my word...who parks on a random drive. 💯 % YANBU OP

Yes, leave the number for London Zoo and tell them they need to speak to C Lyons. Or G Raaf. Or maybe Anne Tilope.

I think it's Lee Murr working today

A brief update (no conclusion yet sorry)

  1. We left the car as per diagram. Took plenty of photos of both cars.
  2. I am settled in at the fete, in a slightly damp gazebo drinking slightly warm white wine with friends. We are reading through all these comments and having a massive giggle. Everyone loves a drama.
  3. We didn't leave a note as my DD quite craftily pointed out - they don't know it's our car, they probably think we're a fellow CF (I've paraphrased, but genuinely proud of her deviousness)
I will post again later x

This feels very Midsummer Misdemeanours.

Can’t wait to find out how it all ends 😂

OverthinkerTinker · 05/05/2024 15:53

I'm also invested. Well done, OP. There's nothing quite like a Sunday afternoon CF parking thread.

murasaki · 05/05/2024 15:54

Has your husband also had a nice tepid alcoholic beverage or two? I do hope so.

Myteenhatesme · 05/05/2024 15:55

Here for the outcome!

It depends if you would get a ticket for parking across a drive (even if it is your own drive). We do here and the traffic wardens will walk all around the streets looking, as it is easy pickings.

It’s a village fete. Villages don’t have traffic wardens.

Ihaveneedofwaternear · 05/05/2024 15:56

Shamelessly following for the conclusion!

KnitnNatterAuntie · 05/05/2024 15:56

Hoping that your lovely friends will invite you back to theirs after the fete, thereby delaying for a few hours your return home.

This will, of course, prolong the agony for all of us who are thoroughly invested in this scenario, but it would be SO worth it!!!!!

FionnulaTheCooler · 05/05/2024 15:56

Well done for blocking them OP. I used to live in a school street and was regularly blocked in by arsehole lazy parents on the school run. I always kind of hoped one of them would go a step further and actually park in the drive so I could dish out a taste of their own medicine like this. I would never live near a school again.

NeedToBeStrongStepAway · 05/05/2024 15:56

Op. Don't drink and drive 😀you absolutely cannot move the car now you've had wine

Great update. Although this feels like a Netflix limited series and I've got to wait for a week to find out what happens.

Looking forward to checking in on this thread later, after I have had wine at my local fete.
Won't need to drive, have left my car on someone's driveway. 😚
