Well am I?

OP posts:
CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 30/04/2024 07:49

If those people saying she isn’t talented could write and record eleven albums, win 14 Grammys and countless other awards and then partake in a world wide tour grossing over a billion (so far) where they perform live for 3 hours just to show us how anyone could do it and it doesn’t take any actual talent then please go ahead.

Anyway, it’s cool these days not to like Taylor Swift, or to say her songs are crap (tbf though she doesn’t seem to actually release her best songs so lots of people might not know them). No one is forcing you to like her or listen to her.

I am a Swiftie but I do have to admit I am not feeling her new album yet, hoping it is a grower!

@HelenaWaiting What part of my post are you not getting?

Any thread about Taylor is either bashing her or banging on about her like she's the messiah. We have a royal family board so why not a Taylor board? She gets enough attention to keep a board active.

Personally I don't see the appeal. I don't like her music but I don't envy her

Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I don't "get" what you're saying.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 30/04/2024 08:01

Can’t get past her animal cruelty with her cats and featuring cropped eared dogs.

chocolatelover91 · 30/04/2024 08:02

You are not being unreasonable! I like a couple of her songs but the hype is just baffling!

CurlewKate · 30/04/2024 08:09

I no longer have young children, but if I did, I would be happy for them to have Taylor Swift as a role model.

PostItInABook · 30/04/2024 08:10

Unless you are some sort of expert in the things she has achieved success in, you have no credibility or knowledge to decide she is overrated. Just say you’re not a fan of her music and move on. Though, quite why people feel the need to announce this (or anything for that matter) on social media I don’t know. Ordinary people have such delusions of grandeur nowadays. No one cares if you don’t like Taylor Swift or mushy peas or that your kid did a shit.

I'll tell you something right now. I'd rather burn my whole life down than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning.

Amazing!!!!

Lelivre · 30/04/2024 08:15

Used to think the same OP but I have done an about turn after watching folklore on Disney+

I shared this with my DD who was captivated and she is now dealing with teen angst by writing songs. Further she has taken up the guitar. It has done her the world of good.

Kindleonfire · 30/04/2024 08:18

Can we have a few threads about how over rated Ed Sheeran is? Or that one song Lewis Capaldi's record label keeps trying to convince us all is actually a different song? The Rolling Stones perhaps? The Beatles?

Or do we just preserve the over rated threads for Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Adele and other female artists? 🙄

BobnLen · 30/04/2024 08:24

I suppose it depends if it's your taste in music, to me it is background but not offensive, similar to Ed Sheeran, I couldn't recognise a song from either but I must have heard them on the radio. I have heard her singing on the TV but have not recognised the songs, she doesn't sound warbly though like Adele and some others which hurts my ears.

storminabuttercup · 30/04/2024 08:25

This is getting fucking boring now.

Yes you're all super cool for not liking TS....Hmm

I'm not cool just old so it's off my radar, her music hasn't leapt out to me on the radio at all though for me to want to listen more, the only more modern artist that did was Amy Winehouse and that was obviously a while ago

Rutlandwater · 30/04/2024 08:35

Not keen on her music, think she is amazing though.

HidingUnderTheBleachers · 30/04/2024 08:40

Taylor needs her own board on here. 💃

Singleandproud · 30/04/2024 08:42

I don't think her music is for children - yes Shake it Off was a fab pop song but she writes her music for her age group.
I've been a fan since 2008, I've always loved Country music and it was great having someone my age writing songs about things that were relevant to me, just as her music written in her 30s resonates with me now.

Her most popular hits on the radio aren't her best songs, they tend to be the ones that are slower tempo and poetic, heartfelt and not designed for dancing to really.

Startingagainandagain · 30/04/2024 09:04

Nobody is forcing you to listen to/buy her music or go to her concerts.

She seems rather inoffensive (no drugs and alcohol or diva behaviour towards fans), has some catchy tunes which she writes herself and has been quite outspoken about her political views against Trump. She also never looks trashy or overtly sexual like so many women in pop so she doesn't come across as a record company puppet.

Not a bad role model for kids really.

Of course I can see how a young, powerful, outspoken woman would annoy many people...

SD1978 · 30/04/2024 09:08

I'm getting a bit bored by how over saturated the radio is with Taylor swift songs- don't mind them, don't love them, but hate hearing the same songs on repeat on multiple stations- would say the same though if it was any artist

WaltzingWaters · 30/04/2024 09:09

I’m not a fan myself. I don’t rate her. But life would be boring if we all liked the same thing.

I love Taylor but she sings (very frequently) about alcohol. There are mentions of addiction referring to drugs too, some clearly in the context of a friend/lover, others where it is ambiguous. Also, you might want to look into her Vigilante Shit performance if you think she is never sexual... And that's not a bad thing. She is a 34 year old woman singing about aspects of her life, which surprise surprise are adult. You don't need to bring other women down by calling them 'trashy' to lift Taylor up.

CroftonWillow · 30/04/2024 09:12

She's been around a while now and has made the most of the changing landscape in the music industry as well as being a pretty good songwriter/musician. And of course her PR is fantastic.

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 30/04/2024 09:14

@HelenaWaiting exactly what is it you disagree with? I haven't slated her in any way. No I'm not a fan but I have nothing against her. She has a massive following and no doubt could keep a board active. I'm wondering why you took issue with my post?

studioussquirrel · 30/04/2024 09:43

I've never (knowingly) heard anything she has sung.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 30/04/2024 09:46

I think asking if Taylor swift is overrated is overrated. Don’t like her, don’t listen to her

This. Why do people feel the need to start a thread to tell everyone they don't like someone's singing. Do they think people care particularly?
