I’ve seen similar threads re this but I’m just FUMING. It’s MAY and it’s still f*cking freezing cold.
I’ve just got up and gone to the coast, got out the car ran about half a K and turned around and come home in a strop.

Also- the heating has had to be on intermittently throughout April because I’ve got a 8month old.

I feel so friggen down with it, I fight SAD so hard during the winter months, wrap up get hiking even in the pouring rain.

We lived in aus for a few years and it’s just so much better weather wise, you can plan stuff, you can be outside even when you’re feeling sad and shit. Here’s just miserable 24/7 and it’s been winter for 7 months!

I can’t relate, I’ve been running all through winter and never once felt cold. I have been going out in a t shirt for at least the last 6 weeks but before that I’d put a jumper on and take it off within 5 minutes. Does running not make you hot?

But yes, it is dragging on a bit now but it’s nothing new. It never warms up before May then everyone complains it’s too hot (me included)

EmilyTjP · 28/04/2024 09:36

It’s not May, it’s still April! 😂

Same and this morning I’d just had enough! I was like WHY am I doing this to myself AGAIN?!
Probably just a lapse in my mindset but I’m just totally over it now!

you need better clothing op

no decent runs without a car?

i have never driven for a run. Best thing about running is how convenient it is… walk out front door and you’re off!

newyorkhotel · 28/04/2024 09:43

I am so with you OP. I love running but I am losing motivation so fast with this weather. Running in slippery mud and rain is vile. This time last year I was going great guns. I hope it changes soon for both of us!

ladybirdsanchez · 28/04/2024 09:43

I'm a runner and I actually like it when it's colder, so I can't agree with you on that one. The rain gets me down, but temps under 10 degrees are perfect for a run. And it's the 28th April, not May!

Puravida23 · 28/04/2024 09:45

For me it’s the mud which has been relentless. Trail running has been virtually a no go for about 5 months here. Park run has been cancelled multiple times due to flooding and mud.
I always overheat when running (blame the menopause) so can’t get cold enough for me though so happy with cold just not wet.

Tbh., think it was more the wind so maybe my choice of location was not the best today- but I’m not a road runner aha I love country parks and coast luckily live on a peninsular but not when it’s freezing like this 💀🤣

Where are you? I’m on the Wirral and I don’t like road running so generally drive to the coast or large country parks x

I feel like this but about the rain, it feels like we’ve had nonstop rain for months! I do have clothes for running in the rain but still end up soaked by the end of it. It’s not that cold but I hate having shoes full of water.

WRT driving to go running, surely that depends on where you live?

Bridgetoo · 28/04/2024 09:47

It's often cold in April. There's a reason why gardeners don't normally put out tender plants until May - because of risk of frost!

Yes it's chilly running for the first 5 mins but you soon warm up so just get back out there - you'll feel great afterwards

It's also going to be sunny and warm from tomorrow apparently

Kent

Surrounded by running routes

use time this morning googling running routes local to you… there’ll be lots

hottchocolatte · 28/04/2024 09:48

Is there anywhere you can run without getting in your car?

It may be less noticeable if you just go out side than in a warm car and then getting out in the cold!

Will also save you time and petrol if you decide not to bother!

The weather isn't great but I tend not to be cold when I'm running

loverofbestbuy · 28/04/2024 09:48

what’s your distance usually?

MagpiePi · 28/04/2024 09:48

I never understand why people have to respond to ‘I hate the cold’ posts with ‘well you’re wrong. I love freezing rain and all you need to do is wear proper clothing, cultivate a stiff upper lip, and agree that anything over 10 degrees is unbearable’.

I totally understand you OP, and I have lived in Aus too and miss the weather.

Sometimes runs go badly, sometimes they go better than expected. I often find a workout video on YouTube if I can’t get out.

newyorkhotel · 28/04/2024 09:48

Yes, it's this. I dont mind the cold as you get warm quickly, but I have slipped over twice now as it ends up being like treacle. I dont like running near roads, have had harassing comments in the past and I want to enjoy nature and the fields behind our house 😒

millymollymoomoo · 28/04/2024 09:51

I like running at 6 am in the dark in winter at -4 mc so I don’t relate. But im
a bit bonkers when it comes to tunning. Dark and cold for me!

best advice is ensure proper clothing ( which is stating the obv)

PinkiOcelot · 28/04/2024 09:52

Totally with you. Sick of it.

I cut my dog walk last night because it was so cold. We’re in for rain all day here as well. Great. Cold and wet!

EileenBilton · 28/04/2024 09:52

We had a lovely long run planned for today and didn't even attempt it. So over this weather.

CheshireCats · 28/04/2024 09:52

The April weather you are describing in totally normal April weather and it is also totally normal for us to have the heating on intermittently in April. We have also had snow mid May before now. You are moaning because it's April weather in April!

Thank you! I know how to wrap up.. it’s just unrelenting when you ask yourself why am I putting myself through this again? Running is bloody hard enough without being freezing wet through and having the wind batter you.
Lol I’ve just come home and had a anger informed go on my spin bike., so maybe it was good for something haha

Anywhere from 10k to half marathon.. when it’s good conditions I’ve gone further.. luckily our coast is good for getting marathon distances in

Completely agree. I'm sick of it. I'm cold to my core.
