Liquorice is the food of the devil and it's slowly dying out as people come to their senses with regards to this disgusting black substance, which has clearly been pulled straight from Satan's bumhole

YABU - I am a weirdo who likes liquorice
YANBU - I am a normal person who agrees that whoever invented this stuff belongs in prison

Salty liquorice is devine. The non salty stuff I don’t eat. Hate that I can’t get salty ones in the UK

As others have already posted, Scandinavian-owned shops in the UK sell it - e.g. Flying Tiger (Danish) or IKEA (Swedish).

There are also on-line shops - e.g. scandikitchen.co.uk or germandeli.co.uk - that sell "Piratos", "Nappar", "Salty Fish" etc.

Ahh , I'm quite intrigued to try salted liquorice now
I'll try Flying Tiger as I know an IKEA trip will result in a duvet cover, bath towels , some glasses, and if I can find them, Mini Daim bars (that I don't actually neeeeed )

It's always slightly disappointing when the only discernible salty flavour in salt liquorice seems to be of the sodium chloride variety. Salty liquorice should have sal ammoniac, and sal ammoniac should be spicy, dammit Grin

RhubarbAndFlustered · 28/04/2024 12:24

I bloody love the stuff and I've a long way to go to 50.
Farmfoods sells whole tubs of sour Licourice flyers and I buy at least two boxes a trip. Maybe last me a couple of weeks if I'm lucky.

Liquorice all sorts...I remember only eating the Bobbley blue one! Yeah, it's pretty vile isn't it. Molasses as well, it's just so burnt and bitter tasting!
I think in Sweden and other scandi countries it's really popular. They even have a salted version. Gross! Haha. I don't actually know anyone who likes it, of any age.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 28/04/2024 12:33

Well over 60 here and hate the stuff (tastes burned to me). My kids (all under 50) don't like it either, but that might be due to never having it in the house when they grew up because I dislike it so intensely.

I recommend buying a bag of Tyrkisk Peber (can buy on amazon or scandikitchen for instance, in the UK), they're hard sweets filled with ammonium chloride powder. Proper spicy stuff.

lonerider · 28/04/2024 12:43

Liquorice tea is tots delish.

countrygirl99 · 28/04/2024 12:49

@Natsku that stuff made my eyes water.

HenryCavillsPerfectTeeth · 28/04/2024 12:51

35 love liquorice!

@Natsku that stuff made my eyes water.

Its my favourite. I would always take a bag back to the UK after I went on holiday to Finland as a child, and then make my friends all try one and laugh at their reactions. Though some did find out they liked it too.

readingmakesmehappy · 28/04/2024 13:29

Under 50 and I loathe it. My 98 year old grandmother loves it. But DH is also under 50 and he loves it.

Havanananana · 28/04/2024 14:16

I recommend buying a bag of Tyrkisk Peber ...

Also available in Scandinavia as a vodka shot - the first one tastes very unusual (unless you're a Scandi and have grown up eating the sweets and other non-sweet liquorice like Piratos or blue Ga-Jol) but after 4 or 5 you don't notice anymore 😬

They are deceptive shots, can drink far too many of them without realising it! I also like Fisu shots

I saw liquorice body lotion in a shop in Sweden last week. Thought that was maybe a step too far for me. I stuck to the raspberry salted liquorice.

Orangepawprints · 28/04/2024 21:33

Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease - liquorice allsorts were my absolute favourite.

never been able to find gluten free ones so have to sadly say goodbye to them.

most things I can substitute- but sadly never my liquorice !

totally love it!

Yourinmyspot · 20/01/2025 15:35

I love liquorice and have for years well before I turned 50. I used to work in Pontefract when the Dunhills / Haribo factory was there and you could smell the liquorice in the air when they were making Pontefract Cakes, heaven.

Aliflowers · 20/01/2025 15:47

DH in his forties and loves it. I’d rather eat a salad
